Superb player. The way he jockeyed Jaizinho in the 1970 Brazil World Cup game should be shown to all young defenders. Jairzinho would have been faster than Moore running backwards and had plenty of room but Moore was smarter. He stood off moving backwards and kept just enough space between him and Jaizinho. The second Jairzinho showed just a little bit too much of the ball Moore nipped in and had the ball off him in a flash. An object lesson in coolness under pressure.

Interesting to see he worked at “ Churchill-Redman”. They were quite a well known lathe maker back in the day. I’ve worked on a few myself. Maybe some that Tony helped build. 
He was like a slimmer, quicker, Bradley Dack for the ones who never saw him play. At a time when Rovers were desperate for heroes he was the real deal. Thanks for the memories Tony.

Tony Field, Superstar, how many goals have you scored so far?

Anyone who saw him in those days will have him in their top 5 favourite Rovers players, our first hero (along with Sir Roger) in the 1970s. Interestingly, I remember Tony Parkes writing that Field was unpopular in the dressing room, probably because of the arrogance that made him such a great player and fan hero. Pity his penalty expertise deserted him away at Scunthorpe when a win would’ve almost certainly seen us go up under Furphy.

I remember Marsh insulting the club and Jack Walker after Souness left when Stelling suggested Robson moving in the opposite direction. Called it an insult. Personally I think it's an insult when you're the recipient of a liver transplant like "Georgie" was and keep drinking yourself to death but Marsh has been rather silent about that. Your friends say a lot about you.

I’ve got a replica of that  “ Pele 10 “ shirt. It’s a really nice shirt made by  “Umbro “. The letters and numbers are sewn on. I got the green away shirt at the same time. From TK Maxx of all places.

Really sad news about Tony Field. As everyone else from the time would confirm, a true Rovers great.

When you think of the assorted dross we've had masquerading in the blue and white halves over the years, it's enough to make you weep compared to Field.

I’d describe him as the love-child of Joe Rothwell and Bradley Dack. He had the up-off-your-seat acceleration and dribbling of Rothwell coupled with the audacious finishing of Dack.
