Backroom Tom Posted April 21 Backroom Posted April 21 Carlisle equalised in injury time at Stanley, not sure if that stopped them being relegated today Quote
Backroom Tom Posted April 21 Backroom Posted April 21 Sad to see that former Rochdale player Joe Thompson died at 36 after his cancer coming back a 3rd time, a cruel cruel disease 3 Quote
chaddyrovers Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Morecambe have been relegated and now in the National League Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 26 Posted April 26 8,719 fans at Bury last weekend in the North West Counties league. That’s just 6 years since they were expelled from the football league. They’re obviously on their way back. Just saying. 3 Quote

I saw that and wondered to myself if Bury will sell more season tickets than us. And they will be playing in the NPL West Division. Quote
Backroom DE. Posted Saturday at 18:55 Backroom Posted Saturday at 18:55 An interesting group of teams in the League 1 playoffs this season. Stockport, Charlton, Wycombe and Leyton Orient. Charlton were last in the Championship in the 19/20 season. Stockport have spent much of the last decade in the National League, and only came up from League Two last season. They've had some pretty hefty financial support, losing £7m in their League 2 season - but seem to have gone under the radar a bit. Outshined by the Wrexham story. Wycombe have the most recent Championship tenure of the playoff teams, having been in the division in the 2020/21 season. Leyton Orient just about pipped Reading to 6th. They've spent much of their time in the last decade either in League 2 or the National League. Of the three relegated clubs from last season's Championship, only Birmingham bounced back. Granted they spent a silly amount of money to do so, but if that expenditure is on players that can be utilised in the Championship as well then it may be seen as a sound investment over time. Huddersfield finished 10th and lost their last 6 games. Ouch. Rotherham even worse, finishing 13th. It used to be practically a guarantee that Rotherham would come straight back up after being relegated to League 1, but looks like that's no longer the case. Bolton were in contention for the playoffs but then lost 4 and drew 2 of their last six games, and that was that. They finished 8th, 10 points off 6th spot. Wigan finished 15th. Our once great rivals Shrewsbury finished bottom and will be playing in League 2 next season. It ends a decade-long stay in League 1 for them. The season they competed with us was pretty much a total one-off. From 2015 to present, excluding the 17/18 season, they never finished higher than 12th and were more frequently in the 17th - 20th range. 3 Quote
Claytons Left Boot Posted Saturday at 20:10 Posted Saturday at 20:10 Huddersfield with just under 21k on today for a ‘dead rubber’ as they’re well outside the play offs. Similar sized town to us with a large Asian population and probably a similar sized catchment area. A delegation of 5 year olds from Blackburn could nip over the county boundary and have a meeting with Huddersfield’s board and then put in place a similar scheme at Rovers to bolster both attendances and season ticket sales. Come to think of it, those 5 year olds could no doubt replace Waggott, Pasha and Gestede and do a much better job. Instead of paying them up to a combined £1m per year for their services, they’d be happy with a bag of Haribos each. 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted Saturday at 20:51 Posted Saturday at 20:51 That would’ve been a good idea until this summer. Hudds crowds have been built on years of cheap STs… and they’ve just hiked them up hundreds of quid for next term (after their worst season for nearly two decades too). Quote
chaddyrovers Posted Sunday at 07:08 Author Posted Sunday at 07:08 Huddersfield need to get it right on the pitch to keep those fans coming. They need a good head coach appointment if they want promotion Quote
cesus Posted yesterday at 06:20 Posted yesterday at 06:20 Accrington Stanley have decided to close their academy. I can't help but think we will see another Lancashire club really struggling to compete in professional football like Morecambe, very soon. Andy Holt seems to have turned the taps off for anything other than keeping the lights on. They've struggled to compete with quite a few National League teams on wages recently, worrying times for their supporters. Quote
Mattyblue Posted yesterday at 06:22 Posted yesterday at 06:22 Maybe half the crowd will come back home to Ewood Park… 2 Quote

Andy Holt has more than that club but it doesn't help things with Council doesn't work with you and use the club who is biggest community asset in the area to grow and invest jobs, etc Quote

Holt himself has said the academy was the future of the club, yet after the closing of Coley's its the first thing to go. It must have been one of the highest grossing hospitality areas in Lancashire to be such an essential funding vessel of a football club. Edited 7 hours ago by cesus Quote

It must have been one of the highest grossing hospitality areas in Lancashire to be such an essential funding vessel of a football club. Yes he does. He is still funding the club despite not being a director of the club 250k a season. With cost rising and that taking its toll on all businesses it can't be easy decision On Coley's bar was a way to raise extra income for the club, investment in the local area, employed more staff and growth the local economy. Don't think there is love lost between him and council now. I know some councillors are trying to get the club back onside and used it as the community asset in the area. What a town football club should be Quote
