Stansfield did very well as lone striker in his season at Birmingham in the championship and if you look at Liam Delap he wasn't ripping up the championship before his move to Ipswich after their promotion. One good season at PL and now at Chelsea

For every striker who has underwhelmed in the Championship before ending up a Champions League club a year later, I suspect that quite a lot more do not have the same progression.
