On the BBD replacement - chances of us finding a guaranteed 20 goal replacement pretty much zero. We will be looking to Gallagher, Dack, Markanday, Sammie, Hedges and a relatively modest new signing to makeup the shortfall between them.

If we wanted to buy a guaranteed 20 goal Championship level striker we'd have to pay the same sort of money we want for BBD.

Looks a tall order but been here before when Armstrong left.

In saying that, BBD himself isn't a guaranteed 20 goal attacker is he? He only managed that once. Whilst he is indeed setting up nicely to get there again, the back end of last season shows how his form can dip significantly.

If we're allowed to reinvest a chunk of the BBD money, I think grabbing Birmancevic from Malmo for £3-5m would be a great start. If we can then throw the bus at bringing Cameron Archer in on loan from Villa, we should be pretty damn strong in terms of attack.

BBD will follow the Venky textbook.

They will delay, prevaricate and hang on until the 11th hour. Partly because they are trying to drive a hard bargain, partly because they are just inept and will only deal with business when it suits them.

The fans, and even those on the ground at Brockhall, will be tempted to accept a sale on the basis this is suddenly going to release substantial funds to enable us to bring in these much needed additions that we have been starved of.

There will also be a dollop of we can't keep a player who wants out, we can't keep him given his contract situation blah blah blah.

Only the sale will come in the last few days of the window, making time extremely limited. Then they move on to phase 2 of the performance which is to try and convince everyone that poor old Rovers have been the victims of an injustice, how we are powerless to do anything about this, about how we can't keep a player who doesn't want to be here, about how the owners were determined to keep him but once he made it known he wanted to go that was that.

Most importantly they will try to persuade us that good new players were lined up, feasible, ready to go but sadly due to various ingredients out of our control we couldn't get the business done before the deadline. Probably a few red herrings thrown in like 'links' to foreign players who would never get a work permit so a waste of time.

The sum total is this - Brereton leaves, £15 million finds its way into the coffers, our small outlay of £1 million or so this summer comfortably covered, the wage bill substantially reduced again, no incomings other than a couple more loans and the circus rolls on, all whilst convincing swathes of the support base that nothing more could be done.

When you are run by con men you get conned.

I'd put good money on him getting 20 again this season if he stays. He's magic.

Does anyone know what percentage of player sales is reinvested these days?

I read a report a while back about how transfer fees operate in the modern game and I think the notion of installments over months, percentage of sales etc isn't real world (again based on just one article)

Effectively clubs now "re-mortgage" the fee, the article said one Australian bank specialised in it,  and take the money at point of sale and repay a % on top.

Granted there is no reason to think every club does this nor that rovers do but when we talk about things like Diaz to Everton or Sammie being upward of 2.5m then the idea of installments seems a slight bit outdated

I'd bet on him to never score 20 goals again in a season in any division (and I think he will end up back in the Championship).

I’ve said it before but I’ll repeat myself as, with all the BBD news today, it seems the right time.

If he does go, I’d like to think we’d all wish him well and maybe keep an eye on his career going forward. How he’s blossomed from the lack of confidence, shy striker who looked a nervous wreck whenever he was in front of goal to how he’s developed over the last 24 months is nothing short of remarkable. It’s a testament to his attitude and hard work and he has earned a PL move.

The important thing now is that some of that money is invested (or we use our “healthy budget” this year and put this in next years budget) in improving the whole team. We won’t be able to get a like-for-like replacement who can get 20 goals and win games almost individually like BBD did last season. But what we can do (hopefully) is improve multiple positions in the squad with some of this money so that we aren’t so reliant on one player.

If Gregg can improve the team by getting a good striker (doesn’t have to be a 20 goal man as much as that would be nice 😂), someone like JPVH and that Malmo player (Birmancevic?) then the team as a whole should look stronger.

So if BBD does go, I’ll wish him nothing but the best and wait (rather impatiently) to see how the squad looks come the deadline next week.

Work permit plus appeals process, surely means we've been trying to land Lode for 3 weeks or so?

As long as we've not ONLY been working on Lode, it does show we're busy and VERY good at keeping it under wraps.

Just seems mental to me that a senior experianced European player with bags of experience can't get a uk work permit, Yet the very young Venezuelan player with no experience at a respectable level in football could potentially qualify for a permit.

I think Markanday is ahead of where BBD was at the same age, maybe time to give him a run in the team?

Not sure that's true mate. Brereton ran Arsenal ragged aged 17.

Won't we?

Like for like, probably not, but it's a squad game. If we could bring in better players than Vale, Gallagher, Dolan and Markanday with the proceeds it's a net win.

We need to get this piece of business done now.

Very similar to when we sold Tony Field To Sheff Utd. Loose one player for the betterment of the team. Team is No 1.

£1 million outlay? We have paid out more than that. Fry said they had turned down bids in excess of £1 million for Smzodic.

I suppose Brittain a starting RB the previous 2 seasons In the championship came for nothing?

Picking figures out of thin air to suit your argument.

With a supply line even Chris brown could score goals in this team 😅

To be fair we’ve already spent over 3 million on transfer fees this summer, the only problem is we need to spend another 6 or 7 if we want to be competitive this season and like you, I have my doubts that much of any BBD transfer fee will be reinvested into anything other than keeping FFP at bay for another season.

FFP can be ignored for this season. New rules begin next summer. The important part is keeping wages to 90% of turnover and this has to be factored into the signings or we'll need a few sales next summer. Signing loans is probably easier as here for 1 year and off the wage bill for next summer.

I thought the 90% of turnover thing was a UEFA rules for champions league clubs?

That'd be impossible for some championship teams to achieve.

If we start winning again, I am not bothered what happens, with reference to transfers.

Nah nah, JH has decided that's wrong because it goes against the arguments he's been making. It's only around a million. Source: Trust Me, Dude.
