I actually agree with your original number of needing 9 players (8 with Ribiero extending). We've seen that we run out of steam as always towards the final 3rd of the campaign and we've less academy prospects able to adequately step up for an extended period with the necessary quality imo.

I dont think weve ever managed to sign more than 6 first team players in a single window (eg. Last summer we got 5 in Ohashi, Gueye, Beck , Baath, Cantwell. Baker, Cozier-Duberry and Toth were squaddies). Its very very difficult.

Thats the problem really, we need to retain enough first teamers so adding 5-6 actually expands the squad size by maybe 3 more first team quality overall. But we don't. My guess is we will be a couple first teamers overall weaker in numbers come September.

I'd really challenge that Dolan isn't top half... he's always available, puts a massive effort defensively and contributes a decent amount offensively. I am sure his new club will be one that is top solidly half. Wouldn't be surprised if a well resourced parachute club takes him.

Hedges is more debatable, but if/when he leaves I would fully expect him to get a sideways move to another mid table side.

I think Hedges is a decent defensive winger / wing back that's been miscast as a wide attacking player. He falls apart in the final third of the pitch.

Dolan is in a massive purple patch at the moment - if he could put it all together consistently he'd be a top half of the Championship player. Sadly he blows hot and cold - and his final ball / decision making is often infuriatingly poor. You can't fault his work rate, even if he looks like he's running in treacle.

They've already told you the plan - the next tranche of Academy players will fill out the squad. Duru, Batty, Powell, Montgomery, Gilsenan, Tyjon, Michalski et al are all in line for plenty of minutes.

To be fair that's what Broughton wanted to do too - he just wanted to spend far more on the starting XI and initial reserves (say top 16 players total) and use the Academy for depth / development.

I'd be amazed if we're not weaker next season, it's inevitable with how they run the club.

Not sure Powell is particularly in the running, is he?

All opinions of course, and Dolan is doing a fine job of finishing in a high, but 200 games in, I think he’s crap mate. Hard working show pony, who has far more bad’uns than good’uns. Is the deceptively slow and takes 1733637 touches when one is all is needed.

Granted, I may be proven wrong on him, and for his sake I hope I’m wrong, but my bet is he’s more likely to do a ‘Nyambe’ than a ‘Raya’.

All fairly irrelevant anyway because he’s taking the coin. Meh…next!!

I picked from a host of names that are currently out on loan - I don't profess to know which ones are closest to the first team as I haven't watched any of them play.

Chaddy will be straight in to ask how can he be crap if he is a professional footballer?

Even relative to the level, he certainly isnt crap though. Hedges is. Dolan is still at times frustrating but he would be a very useful signing for most in this league.

Tyjon off to Man U apparently.

Let’s hope we actually get some reasonable money for him.

I wouldn't hold your breath.

We'd be lucky to give him away.

The United 'link' was clearly his agent trying to distract from the fact he'd had yet another shocker and cost us more goals literally the day before.

I will play for Man United before Pears does. And I'm 42.

Out of interest, why do you expect the first part with our budget?

If that's what you think we should  sign, fair enough, but it's not very clear.

Do we actually know our budget?

Gestede has said similar as this season and Ismael has said about getting signings in early and in time for pre season camp in Spurs

Do we need a CB with Hyam, Batth, Carter and Wharton all back for next season? Not sure if there are any coming through the academy?

I appreciate that Carter and Wharton are prone to a lengthy injury though.

You just answered your question there

It always baffles me how we dont deem certain youngsters worthy of any minutes in our first team yet Premier League Clubs obviously think they're worth a punt.

He has freshly turned 17. For him to have been landing any Championship minutes when he was 16 is exactly the sort of thing that has caught the eye of bigger clubs. Of course they think it's worth a punt when he'd cost them very little compared to next season with proper contract protection and probably a lot more experience. These clubs just hoover up the young talent for peanuts, it barely even matters to them if any particular one makes it, as some will and they cost fuck all relative to their spending power.

Because there’s a big difference between playing in the first team in the championship and playing for the U21’s at United??

I feel like you put too much stock into what people say at our club, despite the constant lies.

You believed Suhail saying that we spent £4.5m, you believe Gestede that our budget will be similar. And every manager I can remember has talked about getting signings in early, we seldom manage it. Ismael is naive to how shambolic a transfer window is with these owners and board because hes never witnessed one.

He won't see any minutes in United's first team for years.

It's purely a money thing - they can offer far more than we can. He'll be loaned out to oblivion just like Phillips.

the point you don't get again, these people make these comments on the record. Then you used it after to come back to them and you said this but actually it was this.

We did roughly spent between £4-5m on signings like Cantwell, Toth, Gueye, Ohashi and Kargbo. Is this wrongly?

On Ismael wanted most of the signings in before our pre-season camp to Spain. Thats all I said yet you go OTT again as per usual

Gueye 1m. Kargbo 1m or just under. The other 3 a combined million.

If Suhail told me the sky is blue, I wouldnt believe him.

And we hear the same every season about getting signings in before pre season. Then do the same dance when pre season comes, no one is in, then you start telling everyone to be patient, listing other teams yet to make a signing.

That seems an appropriate face for him to make in response to that offer.

Rumour has it the offer is much improved on the previous deal as they've now offered an expired bag of wotsits to go with the half a banana and a flip flop they were previously offering.

I don't believe Suhail's figure, but yours seem off too.

Gueye was mostly reported at about 1.3 to 1.5 million. Toth was touted as being just under a million (I think it was in the region of 800k), Cantwell about 300k and Yuki something like 200k. Add Kargbo and you get more like 3.6 to 3.8 mill.

Still not the 5 mill Suhail suggests, or anything impressive, but in the interest of accuracy based on what's been reported.
