JHRover Posted yesterday at 11:57 Posted yesterday at 11:57 Travis won't be moving to Wrexham or anywhere else because it is a shorter or easier commute. He will be moving elsewhere because Rovers have made it as clear as they possibly can that they have no intention of keeping him here beyond 2026 and probably sooner than that if the money on offer tempts or our financial crisis is such that they want to free up the wages.Β He's soon 28 and needs to know where his medium term future lies and needs a contract to take him into his 30s. Probably his last 'big' opportunity. Rovers don't want him so he needs to look elsewhere, and that will be to whoever offers Rovers/him the best deal.Β Alternatively he can sit tight for another 12 months working his socks off for a club that doesn't want him and has no intention of getting anywhere, walk away on the expiry of his deal and probably command a signing on fee elsewhere, but there's a lot of risk with that e.g. injury or not the same offer available.Β Β Β 1 Quote

We on the other hand need to be retaining the very important players we've got - Travis & Batth arguably are the most important - and signing a bit of quality to build on last season. Instead we look like letting the best players leave again without a fight and rooting around for squad fillers with half a chance of increasing in value.Β There is no specific aim here other than wage bill reductions and increasing slightly an already low squad valuation. They are but they're getting organised early. Earlier its done, the work can start. Yes they need to be the right candidates but we just seem to pluck these nobody's and Scrape together a team that resembles a pub team. No offence to pub teams.Β Quote

No offence to pub teams.Β They are in the horses for courses frame of mind whereas here i suspect we are back in the grab who you can for wherever if they are affordable and have a chance of quickly increasing in value. Then shoehorn them in. Most of Mowbrays tenure ended up like that it's why we never went anywhere until the 0-7 v Fulham kicked him up the arse when he was in requiring a new contract mode. Trinidad Rover Posted yesterday at 15:49 Posted yesterday at 15:49 As ever will wish him luck and hope he does well for Rovers. With what appears to be extremely limited budget however, it is a strange one to spend a decent chunk on a position we are well covered? 1 Quote

Quality players in the positions we usually need ( the forward areas) cost decent money so we usually ignore that and just pad things out with a few relatively cheap squad fillers to make it look like we're doing something. Tomphil2 Posted yesterday at 16:09 Posted yesterday at 16:09 (edited) A fee paid over the length of the contract is only a few hundred grand per year so i'd say it's money or loose change they already have in the pot. Or..... it points to an imminent outgoing.... Edited yesterday at 16:10 by Tomphil2 Quote

Hasn't been typical of our activity over the years, especially during Mowbray's tenure. Quote
roversfan99 Posted yesterday at 16:22 Posted yesterday at 16:22 Slow business has been a common theme with the odd exception throughout the Venkys reign. The common denominator is not any individual. Venkys often make people go over to India after the season has finished to sort the budget because they havent the interest to actually come here or agree using technology. Incredible that anyone hasnt joined the dots yet and continue to deflect from the source of our problems. Quote

Im not defending Waggott. Im blaming the owners you even now continue to protect and deflect blame away from. 2 seasons ago we had 3 deals wrapped up very early with both Waggott and Broughton in charge. Just before Venkys then decided to freeze all further business for most of the summer and further cut the budget. 1 Quote

I'm not sure how you continually manage to conclude that I'm trying to protect and deflect blame away from the owners when I'm saying they need to be gone ASAP. Until they go however, business still has to be done, and if transfers are concluded in more timely fashion it "might" be a small victory. Ultimately means little if the players coming in are shite though. Edited yesterday at 16:37 by RevidgeBlue Quote
