Wonder if this new RB will end up on the Right wing. He played Beck further forward at the first opportunity and it seems De Neve, who has also been a LB, is set to be deployed on the left wing.

Yeah, it seems like VI might want widemen Β who can run up and down the line all day and are good at the defensive aspect.
Β

I think we’re going to have a very athletic side.

Yep correct but I’m just showing that because we haven’t heard of these signings etc doesn’t mean we’re automatically doomed - judgement should be made in season

again I refer to last year batth the main one got laughed off this forum and now we’re gutted he’s goneΒ

If we can't judge or comment on signings when they're made, we might as well shut the forum down.

Can we perhaps sign a player from one of the other relegated sides in Belgium? You know, just for a bit of variety.Β πŸ™ƒ

Alebiosu sounds on paper like an even less inspired signing than De Neve, who was at least a starter in that side. Any more players from Belgium this summer and it's going to become the new version of all the Portuguese players that signed in summer 2012.

That being said, if JRC is indeed out the door then this feels like a straight replacement and backup to Brittain (hopefully). Maybe Rovers will use the rest of the supposed JRC money to finally laund Kapuadi, who is the only player we've been linked with that seems like he would actually, genuinely improve the team.

It all seems a bit desperate, doesn't it? Granted we've not seen any of these new players kick a ball yet, but none of them make me think "yeah that'll improve the starting 11". It feels much more like squad fillers ahoy while Rudy spins his wheel of fortune / misery on who we bring in next.

I suppose compared to last summer it's still early days on Rovers recruitment. Wasn't it the last week of pre-season when they signed a bunch of players over the course of a week? I remember Ohashi and Gueye played 45 mins each in a friendly the week before the first game of the season.

Absolutely people have the right to make judgement on signings. Similarly, people would do well to remember some signings have completely flipped the initial judgement, or even judgement after 1 season. Szmods, Brittain, Bezza....far from great first seasons.Β

That is not what I’m saying at all. I’m pretty much saying he’s been wrong before so what’s to say he can’t/wont be wrong again. This debate raises its head all the time I’d have thought posters would have learnt that maybe just maybe instead of instant doom they look at last season and maybe go ok these aren’t inspiring (because they aren’t) but we shall se show it goesΒ

If people reserved judgment until a certain point, they'd never have an opinion on anything.

Who cares if they're wrong? People get things wrong all the time.

It's easy to look back on anything with hindsight.Β

If the supposed 2nd player is from a Swiss club then it'll probably be fromΒ Yverdon Sport FC who were relegated last seasonΒ πŸ˜‚

Then it's:

Mitchy Ntelo

Would be a terrible signing imo

Where does the Belgium come from?

Presume that's the right back no?Β

I guessed on this guy by the way based on relegated Swiss.Β  Although the same club has a central mid called Baradji that Celtic were afterΒ

I have opinions you do and all others do but when your option has been proven to be way off the mark would you continue to go with that same opinion each time (I wouldn’t)

It seems clear that Gestede has well and truly got his feet under the table with the signings we are making.Β

There will have to be more than a few fingers and toes crossed that he knows what he is doing here because on paper it is worrying. Granted he is, like everyone else around this club, working with his hands tied behind his back financially, but it is a high risk strategy.

We've seen a similar sort of thing before with the Shebby and Portuguese influx. And thanks to someone last night pointing it out it does concern me that we've now signed two this summer from Vincent Tan's Belgian club who signed Gestede for Cardiff. I don't believe in such coincidences.Β

So where are we at squad wise now? I do agree that we might be trying to transition to 3-4-3 based on the signings. I'd guess:

Toth

Hyam, New CB?, Pickering?

Brittain, Tron, Trav, Hedges

Cantwell, Ohashi, Kargbo

Β

Backups:

Pears

Carter, Wharton, Ribeiro

Alebiosu, Tavares, Forshaw , De Neve

Tyjon, Gueye, Leonard

Β

We definitely need strengthening in the forward areas as backup for Cantwell/Kargbo, we can't go into a season relying on Tyjon and Leonard.

Likewise, CB is a little weak until we sign someone, I also don't quite trust idea of Riberio/Pickering at CB.

I’d say more…

Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Toth

Brittain Β Trav. Β Sonny. Β  Β  Ribeiro

Β  Β  Β  Β  Kargbo. Β  Β  Cantwell

Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Β  Ohashi

Cover:

GK - Pears

CB - Wharton, Pickering, New,Β

Wingback - Alebiosu, Duru, De Neve, Hedges

CM - Tavares / Loan? Or New

Forwards - Gueye, Tyjon, Leonard, new #10, new wide forward.

Plus the academy options.

Just a guess - Kwadwo Duah - Born London, plays for Switzerland national team, currently with Bulgarian clubΒ Ludogorets Razgrad. Good goalscoring record according to our friend wiki.

Edit:

Signed inΒ 07/19/2023 for 3.5m and contract expires next year. I'm guessing his market value is probably around Β£1-1.5m based on contract length.Β

Its been reported that we only want one centre back.

Im not sure why people are presuming that we are going to change to a back 3/5.

We wanted one when we thought Batth was staying. I’m not sure if we will sign two cb’s but based on the profile of high energy, forward thinking fullbacks we’re signing, they look more like wing backs. Which leads us to think we might end up with three CB’s.

Barnsley were 343 in that brilliant season they had with VI weren’t they?

Why are we guessing Swiss players? Has there been a link?
