We’ve already signed 4. We want 4 more. Most will be permanent signings involving an outlay just as the first 4 were.   It’s early days yet but if the next four are of the same pedigree as the first four colour me - un excited. 1 Quote

They may wish to be raised at one club, not farmed around for a few years and never have settled development, or used as a body for a youth team. Especially at a young age, gallivanting around the country away from family may not be what they want. Whether we think it makes sense or not isn't important, players have their own personalities and aims. Higgins is also a Rovers fan. Also, Phillips and Wharton signed on at stages they could have gone elsewhere. They left later, but they did stick around with interest. Eze also signed a new deal with massive Italian clubs lurking. Yes we would have been entitled to compo anyway, but not as good as we got (2.5 million with as much again in potential add ons I believe...I think we would have got about 1 mill without). Less whatever we paid him for 12 months not to play on his improved deal. Dress it up how you like, getting c£2m for a player who was being touted as an eventual £25m or £30m star wasn't a good deal. Wonder if we bothered to negotiate a sell on clause? That won't be much cop either if he goes to a Championship Club. Quote

I've seen DeNeve play for about 90 mins and the rest for less than 45 mins (or indeed not at all when it comes to Tavares). Quote

In fact given how little they've played that's pretty much all we've got to go on. 1 Quote

That won't be much cop either if he goes to a Championship Club. Why do people always have to assume there's an agenda behind a post? I'm not dressing it up as a good deal, I'm just pointing out that it was a better deal than we were going to get if we just let him leave before signing the contract, which was the contention of your post. Obviously we got rimmed. He didn't 'not play on his improved deal', he made 14 appearances that season. So he filled a squad role. I doubt he would have been paid all that much for 12 months. Even 5k a week (more than I imagine he was on) only comes to 250k for the season, making it still better than letting him go for the compo. Quote

USABlue Posted yesterday at 17:30 Posted yesterday at 17:30 Been wondering if the best signing this summer might be the new S&C coach. We seemed to have a lot of hamstrings and muscle pulls especially from our more athletic players. Can this new fella keep the like of Kargbo from oulling up lame so much, Carter perhaps could be helped. Could the stitched pitch be a culprit?  Hope the new fella gets us to peak fitness, a la Hughes' tenure. 2 Quote
