Mercer, just accept he isnt going to Derby like you said they were leading the race. They haven't put another bid in. Boro did. Why is the Derby's bid? Nowhere in sight. Derby's bid was lowering than Boro.

It was only the week before the Stanley game he was signing a new contract here.

More stories than Roald Dahl Mercer

I don't think you've read what Mercer initially said?

He said that Brittain will be gone this week and Derby are leading the way?

You yourself say football changes all the time. So in this instance Mercer is right, Brittain will be gone, Boro have popped them to him?

On the other points - he said we were signing 2 players and Brittain would sign an extension.

We signed 1, and the other 'failed' his medical.

As you say - football changes all the time. Brittain must have been closed to signing a new deal.

I considered Brittain gone a while ago, so I'm glad they've moved to actually try and replace him. Signing a big, physical international at a good age as a replacement I can't really complain at.

What I can complain about is that this summer we're still in the green. Our sales out weight our buys so any talk of a budget etc... is absolute bullshit.

They need to put their hands in their pockets and bring in some attacking talent, specifically on the right and a number 10.

Polish lad has scored another 2 today. 4 in 3.  Taking it a good sign that he's still playing for them (i.e. no Monaco etc)

Miller and him for Brittain?

He's not Polish, assuming you mean Pululu? No way he is coming here. He is at least a level above if not 2. Shame, would have liked to have seen him here but that would mean delivering the excitement...

Mercer has a habit of regularly saying that x player is about to go. Throw enough mud and all that.

Any nonsense about Derby has not been proven just because he is going to Boro. It was a wild guess and nothing that has happened backs it up in anyway.

His exit has been inevitable since he refused to play V Stanley, it wouldnt take a rocket scientist to predict that it would be soon and in this case, Mercer guessed the wrong club

If anyone believes his transfer gossip especially based on his track record, thats as gullible as suggesting last week that Brittain might sign a new deal.

I wonder if the 2 or 3 is before any outgoings and Miller is on top of that.

Also, seeing as Miller could potentially fill in at centre back, I wonder if this gives us more scope to fill those "2 or 3" spots purely in attack. As we are badly short there. Assuming Miller joins, I would say right wing, number 10 and striker are all bigger priorities than centre back and central midfield as much as we could do with more there aswell.

Jackson keeps peddling the line that we want "competition" on the right. We dont, we want some really quality, not another Hedges.

Everything that has been said & written (now that Jackson has clarified his earlier waffle) implies that the 2 or 3 is before any outgoings

the 2 is apparently an attacking midfielder & a right winger (I am assuming Baradji is seen as one of these)

the possible 3rd being a centre back, which they by all accounts have not yet decided upon if they need or not.  Although I suspect that in true Venkys style, because Miller can also play at centre back, they will no longer be looking for a centre back

With any further outgoings meaning that number is added to (eg Miller from Hibs to replace Brittain)

Mercers 'transfer info' is the modern day team talk off teletext for those old enough to remember 🤣 Interestingly, or annoyingly depending on your interests, transfer news from inside the club has dried up since loose lips Waggott went, or stepped down to whatever job he's doing at present.

Pululu isnt coming here in a million years.

Yes. Nixon says its done. Jackson says he will be Brittain's replacement

Not confirmed until he's holding the shirt up, and even then it's probably 50/50.

Also he's injured, so we won't be seeing him for a while, he might be a good player and fit but would rather someone come in who could hit the ground running, we seem incapable of that though.

I have a feeling Miller might be seen as a RB and cover for CB. Would make sense and doesn’t overload.

For the record, I am fairly sure VI is transitioning us into a 343. I’ve suspected it before, and he defo had his most successful stint as a manager playing 3 at the back. But when you look at the signings it’s pretty clear to me. De Neve and Alebosu are wing backs. The recent interview on the LT confirmed it. McLaughlin is a LCB and Miller it would appear is a RCB. Plus, we’re now devoid of any true wingers.

                        Toth

         Miller.    Hyam.    Mclaughlin

   Alebiosu.  Trav.  Sonny.     De Neve

          Kargbo.    Yuki.      Cantwell

I'm not sure.

I think we might use that at times, but suspect that we'll mostly line up as have in pre season.

Could see Alebiosu being used on the right as De Neve is on the left with Miller behind him.

If that was the case, we might have seen it for at least a minute or 2 in pre season

Much like last season, when Rovers have the ball, our left back will tuck inside and our right back will bomb forwards, making a back 3 when in possession, but a back 4 when out of possession

I'd rather have a 9 better than Gueye or Ohashi than a 10.

I would be amazed if we get anyone in who is immediately better than who they replace

Not saying that any new signings will be rubbish, or that they will not potentially be better than who they replace in the long run, but every signing will initially be worse, (and cheaper) than their predecessors

Maybe - fwiw I don’t think it’s going to happen immediately. Wouldnt surprise me if we’ve transitioned by Christmas though.

He has never tried to replicate what he did at Barnsley in any of his jobs since. Although he has struggled for success since, nothing suggests he sees that as the blueprint for how he wants to play.

Im not sure it has. Many targets this and last seem to be foreign based with the story coming out when linked by foreign journalists.

Indeed, that privy account on twitter seems to have emerged since Waggott has gone.

The Baradji one is strange because i dont see which of those 2 slots that a box to box midfielder who seems to have played deeper fills.

I think Miller will be confirmed today

If you watch the pre season games it has been 3-4-2-1 when in possession and out of possession 4-2-3-1/4-4-2.

He looks like an athletic playmaker rather than a box to box to me, so I could see him in either of those roles in Ismaels system

Modern day teams often do things like that but I dont forsee a total formation change. Nor does Ismael seem to want to replicate his very direct Barnsley side despite that being the only Championship job to which he has done well in.

He seemingly plays deeper though so its surely square pegs in round holes. A lot of what his strengths seem to be defensive.

I think in a year or so (when Travis is gone), he will eventually replace him in the midfield 2, but initially he will play further forwards to ge used to playing at a higher level & being much more disciplined than he currently has to be

In the meanwhile, his attributes make him look capable of covering an attack minded right back getting forwards, whilst also offering a bit more guile and vision than Hedges

Just my hypothesis of course

Who would be happy with this:

GK: Toth/Pears/Michalski

RB: Miller/Alebiosu/Montgomery

RCB: Carter/Miller/Hyam

LCB: Wharton/Mcloughlin/Pickering

LB: Ribeiro/Pickering/De Neve

LW: De Neve/Kargbo/

DM/CM: 3T/Montgomery

RW:Hedges/Ohashi?

CAM: Cantwell/Tyjon/Bucko

ST:Gueye/Ohashi/Leonard

Anyone missing?
several players could be used in different positions - quite versatile without square pegs in round holes.

Must have: quick, energetic RW.

For me that’s all I need.

nice to have: another striker

More competition for Tronny, who seems to be sitting deep. Important to plan around Tronny leaving next year. He has said he loves life in Blackburn, but wants to move back to Norway for family matters.

I actually don't hate the look of this.  Obviously a lot would depend on how the wing backs adapt, they're so crucial in this scenario.  Would have looked a damn sight better with Brittain and Beck in there, but there we go.

As I said when the link was initially made, Miller makes a lot of sense.  Good age, played in a Hibs side that has progressed in recent years, contract running down.  £750k looks a decent deal on paper.  Like all signings, we won't really know for a good while yet.
