The other issue with this is logistics. When the Derby game hits full time you can bet on it taking a good 15 minutes for the pitch to clear, all the staff to get out of the way, media/Sky gang out.

Then all the Rovers and Derby players will need their post-match discussion, shower and change before leaving the stadium.

Are they going to be doing all that whilst there's another game taking place outside?

Where are the 'legends' and Old Etonians going to change? They won't be able to use the home or away dressing rooms until probably an hour after full time so are they going to be stuck in a cupboard or spare room somewhere? Access the pitch from round the back of the Riverside as the tunnel is off limits?

Pretty sure there are rules in place with the EFL regarding who can access the tunnel area before/during/after a game and time limits for that so that could easily cause a problem

All the while they are expecting good numbers of fans to sit in their seats and wait...

I say these things because I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if nobody down there has even considered these issues and just thinks there will be 22 kitted out players stood waiting in the tunnel to run onto the pitch and kick off at full time.

And the Derby fans will need to be out of the way to allow for the thousands of fans coming up from Eton.

I've heard Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees Mogg are amongst the Eton legends taking part.

On a nostalgic note (& Rovers will never do it…) a few on here have asked me about us doing some Rovers college scarves. The price point is too high for us but if you were looking for a special Christmas gift, these seem really good…

My bespoke “4000 Holes” scarf arrived this morning…h/t to @Shirt of two halves for the suggestion - very pleased with it.

I don't get this Old Etonian connection at all. We were beaten by them in an FA Cup Final.  If we are going down that route why not play Queens Park or WBA as they were the teams we beat in winning the FA Cup three years on the trot?

Neither would get me excited anyway.

Probably the idiots phoned up Loftus Road to try and arrange a game with QPR

I Just hope they are not getting mixed up with Blackburn Olympic who defeated Etonians to become the first working Class side to win the Cup before Rovers...

Seriously crossed my mind, nothing surprises me anymore.

Back when Waggott and co did that interview with Radio Lancs after being told to stay away from games, Waggott mentioned something about being in "talks" with Callum Davidson who was the manager at Queens Park at the time to organise something with them.

Guessing it was far too much hard work.

Correct, on our 150th anniv. We are celebrating an FA Cup loss.

Not our FA Cup wins, Premier League win, Carling cup win etc. but a LOSS.

I asked the question about the relevance of playing Old Etonians on Twitter. The only sensible response I got was:

That they were our opponents in our very first FA Cup final in 1881-82 which was the first to feature a team that is still (for now) surviving as a Football League side (Rovers) and the last time the Cup was won by one of the Southern amateur teams.

I'm still not much further along in understanding why any of this is relevant for us celebrating our 150th anniversary. Interesting stuff for FA Cup historians and might be more relevant had we won the trophy that year to become the first non-southern amateur club to win the Cup but we weren't, we lost, so probably a fixture I would expect to see the Old Etonians arranging for their 150th anniversary not the other way around.

We're probably in talks with a Sunday team from the Queen's Park in Blackburn.

A definite Eton Mess.

The actual Queen's Park are in a league fixture themselves that day, unsurpringly, so there's the excuse for that not happening.

Carrying on the FA Cup theme, we won the 1886 edition via a replay with West Brom at Derbyshire's county cricket ground, just a mile or so from Pride Park.

Maybe that could have been an angle a competent board could have pursued if we had to go down the 'afterwards on Saturday 5th' road - play a West Brom legends XI to demark the final flourish of that record we still hold - the only extant club to win three FA Cups in a row, having just played the team whose town we did it in.

Ho hum.

Can we all just agree this is most farcical decision since the Loons thought they could buy the Champions League by employing a total agent pillock to sack Sam and employ a twat as manager?

Further to this point, the players that have played in the actual league match will have to go out and do a cool down that I would expect to take no less than 20 minutes.

So in reality it's going to be an hour and a half before the other game could kick off.

Everything about this is just so comically shit. I love it.
