It was a good performance and really encouraging yesterday.

That 11 plus a few more signings keeps us competitive for another year at this level easily.

However, the old age problem is that 5 of that starting 11 are out of contract in less than a year, along with promising youngsters Montgomery and Mullarkey-Matthews.

The rest who featured apart from Atcheson and De Neve are out of contract a year later.

Think everyone is getting a bit carried away after today. It's obviously good that they've put in a performance against a prem side but the championship is a totally different kettle of fish than a meaningless pre season friendly. Reserve your judgement after the first 90 mins of the season. Fingers crossed they over achieve again.

No one has gone over the top with the comments, no one has said we win the league but we witnessed a good performance against a PL team and some of us cautiously optimistic for the season whilst recognising we still need 3 or 4 more signings for the season.

So what was wrong with anyone's comments who attended the game?

Nice to see Litherland come in and play. He comes highly recommended by regular U21 watchers for his ball-playing abilities. I would also like to see Edmondson given a chance but looks like a loan move might be his best bet at the moment. No Garrett, Duru, Leonard or Vale. Presume, the latter three are injured still? Garrett looks like he's heading out, which I think is a shame as I think he could be a useful utility man.

I'm not sure about Montgomery as a defender, though he may well surprise me. Throwing him into an unfamiliar RB role and assuming he can cover the first team brings back memories of Tyler Magloire's right back exploits. That said, Montgomery has done ok so far.

Duru still injured - fractured foot

Vale was released

Garrett played for the U21s last week, so may have played for them again yesterday, but yes, that would indicate he is surplus to requirements

Unsure about Leonard - think I've seen him in training pics, maybe just being careful with him after his last couple of injuries?

I wonder if James Edmondson may end up on loan at Forest Green in the National League?  Robbie Savage is now their manager, and he had him on loan at Macclesfield last season and was very impressed with him

It’s pre-season. I’ve seen us play appallingly throughout them… then first day, played well, and vice versa.

Teams are at different stages of fitness so you have to take everything with a pinch of salt… case in point Celtic Park yesterday.

Nobody picks up any injuries and minutes in the legs is what it’s all about regardless of results, but yes, despite all that, who wouldn’t rather see a win on a summer’s day, whatever the format.

Thanks - Vale released passed me by and mean our striker options are even weaker than I thought. I had him down as a possible saleable asset but I guess injuries wiped that out.

Shame we may lose Garrett. I always liked him. Edmondson scored at Harrogate didn't he. Another one I hoped would make the first team.

It's not a shame if they are not good enough for our first team.

Never felt like he was telling the truth

He was the first manager open enough to name-checked Suhail as the man to ask regarding the problems at the club. That was good enough for me.

Garrett is going to be like Willem Tomlinson. Looked ok when I saw him for Rovers, but his career has divebombed through the footballing pyramid.

JDT going was probably the worst thing for Garrett. JDT was working with him, improving him

I suspect he didnt want to play him as much as he did but that season was a particularly bad one for penny pinching so he had no choice but to use the likes of Garrett, Markanday and Telalovic who where all nowhere near good enough.

you have no idea if that's the case RF99.

JDT signed off on the Telalovic signing over a loan striker from La Liga.

Also JDT bought Garrett into the first team squad during his first season here and I think Garrett made his first start against Sunderland if memory is correct

Not this again. Remind us again how many days and weeks were left in the transfer window when JDT, having asked for strikers all summer, was given this amazing choice?

If he had said no then there was no striker incoming, so he was given a choice between two players who weren’t up to it.

not this again, JDT signed off on Telalovic and he could have signed that other striker plus Ennis. Maybe he should have just sign one striker instead with Gallagher and Leonard.

As you didn’t answer the question I will, there was 0 weeks left. There was probably 24 hours left.

There is nothing to convince me that JDT was happy with Telalovic, other than he was given a take it or leave it option on 2 unknowns on deadline day. If he “left it” it meant having no striking option coming in.

He was so happy with him he never played him.

He signed off on Ennis and he picked Telalovic over a 31 year old La Liga striker.

Anything else we can only speculate on what we think happen. They got their striker signings badly wrong that summer we know that

I’m clearly not speculating that we left the Telalovic signing until the last 24 hours.

Thats far more fact than someone telling you second hand stuff about JDT signing players off.

GB and JDT always said JDT had the final decision on whether a player sign or not. hardly second stuff is it?
