they are not blamed for weather .... but for knowing the drainage problem for years and not doing anything and for being the only pitch unplayable in PL,CH,L1 and L2.

Fair point. Less than a year ago our match vs Pompey was delayed too so the EFL will probably factor that in when making a decision, but hoping we come out of this one with 3 points or continuing the match where we left off.

Opportunity here for the EFL and SKY to make a spectacle of replaying the last 20 mins. Tag the coverage on to before or after another decent audience fixture

Some of the best ideas are born out of situations like this.

Perhaps this could be the new football version of the cricketing format Twenty/20.

There are already talks taking place, of extending the play off positions, so how about the teams in 7th and 8th playing the teams in 5th and 6th away from home with a man short and a goal down, but only play 15 minutes each way. They would probably go at it hell for leather.

To add a bit of an it's a knockout theme to it, soak the pitch beforehand and make sure the ball sticks in puddles and won't bounce.

It is just a joke by the way, before anyone starts to tear into me.

From an article: https://eflanalysis.com/news/the-efl-board-members-deciding-blackburn-rovers-and-ipswich-town-fate-as-teams-make-their-case/

Quote

The EFL Board considering the matter consists of ten directors, including direct representatives of the Championship. Rick Parry is the chair while Trevor Birch is the chief executive of the board. They’re joined by non-executive directors Caroline Artis and Justine Roberts.

Meanwhile, club representatives Peter Ridsdale (Preston North End), Neil Bausor (Middlesbrough), Zoe Webber (Norwich), Liam Scully (Lincoln), Julian Tagg (Exeter), and Charles Grant (Crewe) are also involved.

Does sound like a much more involved process than first anticipated.

Small things would be classed as influence no? Sure it won't matter in the grand scheme of things but hey ho

There was 3 points to play for. Give us 2, give them 1 & be done with it.

I saw someone else suggest this. Pragmatic as it sounds, it simply isn't an option and I dare say would leave the EFL even more wide open to challenge from other clubs than either of the three choices they do actually have. If either Rovers or Ipswich (or both!) were to scrape promotion/a play off place or avoid relegation by 1 point the clubs that suffer will scream blue murder.

Someone I know who is well connected in football admin circles is pretty certain they are considering “something other than a full replay”, else they would simply have announced the decision by now.

I don’t know how much of this is guesswork and assumption on her part but the EFL reps met last night and you would think if the decision was to replay the game that would be announced quickly.

I’m wondering whether they want to discuss the practicalities of replaying the last 15 minutes, 11v10, with the clubs?

Surely there’s minimal difference (if any) between this and a full replay?

How simple would it be to play out the last 15 pre next fixture

Sounds good on paper. Who would referee the two games, it would be on a different ground, there would be an incentive to make sure certain opponents weren’t fit for the full game. I’m sure there would be many more scenarios.

A full replay would just be like any other EFL game - 90 minutes 11 v 11 and at Ewood Park. The logistics/practicalities of playing such a shortened match (fans v behind closed doors, if fans, what to charge, when, where etc etc - it is unprecedented in English football as far as I know)

Well  made points but nothing that doesn’t seem insurmountable - just needs willing from all parties…

Well thats impossible. No chance of Ipswich agreeing.

One party is going to be extremely unhappy with the outcome. I wouldnt imagine awarding us the game will be on the table so we'll be basically looking at either a full replay from scratch or a 10 minute replay 11 v 10.

The EFL is going to have to impose a ruling and the Club's will then have to thrash out the logistics between themselves presumably subject to any relevant appeal procedure.

In my opinion:

  1. The EFL should tell Ipswich and Rovers their decision (eg continuing from where the match was stopped).
  2. The EFL give the clubs the chance to agree on logistics (date, tickets etc etc)
  3. If the clubs cannot agree these things the EFL then decides for them.

What would Ipswich have to be (genuinely) unhappy about a partial replay?

They’ve already indicated a willingness to travel again so saying they can do that for 90 minutes but not 15 would seem just a tad disingenuous.

Equally, I don’t see how we could argue playing out the remaining minutes wasn’t fair either.

Wonder if in the interest of fair play Ipswich would let us walk one in to effectively start at 1-0 - yeah right

Yeah but say Ipswich beat us & got in the playoffs ahead of someone else... There's room for complaint there aswell. The game didn't finish, no one gets the full 3 points available but the points are shared fairly. Mve on. Don't see the problem with this.

I think the League will make an example of us to encourage teams to manage their pitches properly.

It will be a full replay scores at 0-0.

This is the seemingly most even outcome. Can't decide wtf to do

Start again gang.
