  2. I agree. However I remember that Luton Town centre half putting one on Gallagher that ended up with Gally going to hospital. I’m not even sure he got booked.
  3. I’m old enough to remember having to clear the dinosaur shit off the pitch before we could kick off. The recent events reminds me of the time when Ken Furphy came in. We’d had years of treading water before eventually being relegated to the old Div 3. Furphy came in and began a massive clear out of players who’d been at the club a while who’d obviously become disenchanted with football. Some were fans favourites - Eamon Rogers, who was like Travis only he could play football as well. Billy Wilson - a really good tenacious full back, Malcolm Darling , a decent striker. All of these were good players but they’d become jaded by being at a club that was in the doldrums for years. They were treading water and weren’t playing to the best of their ability. There were others that I forget now that left the club but players were coming in and going out on a daily basis. The famous Bobby Bell deal being just one. Some of these deals worked out, some didn’t. Some young players were brought back in that went on to be household names like Faz and Mecky. But at the end of all the upheaval we had a team that looked like they wanted to play for Blackburn Rovers and they wanted to be out there. He laid the seeds for the eventual promotion out of the dungeons of Div 3 and back to the relatively sunny uplands of Div 2. Let’s hope this turmoil results in a similar period of success ! Come on you Blues !
  4. Maybe that will buy some tins of paint for the ground.
  5. What did you see in his game thst gave you that impression ? I alway think that if I’m playing against this player what do I have to look out for ? What I saw was a player who wasn’t a handful physically, not particularly big, not particularly tricky with the ball at his feet, not particularly quick, no real “ hold up “ play to speak of, and when he eventually got a chance he usually fluffed it. I think £1 million is a great deal for us. They must have signed him going off memory because when did they see him play ? Obviously I respect your views mate, so we’ll see who’s right before too long.
  6. Mm, I wouldn’t call that a gamble. I’m pretty sure how that will pan out.
  7. I won’t matter how long they give him, or anybody else. The whole club has become unmanageable. The manager capable of bringing them success doesn’t exist. It’s like the “ Titanic “ before it hit the iceberg.
  8. Of all the bookings he got, and there was many, I never saw him once get booked for putting a “ quietener “ on an opponent
  9. Yeah I saw him riding Shergar up there the other day
  10. Sounds like you wouldn’t be too unhappy with “ a run of bad results “ ?
  11. I used to watch my rugby league team doing sprint training. It was interested to see who won the races. The guys that were nowhere over 20 yards would sometimes be the winners over 80 yards.
  12. Yes, next to ability confidence is the most important factor in a players make up.
  13. He should have never been allowed back in the first place.
  14. Anybody who refuses to play for Blackburn Rovers goes down a long way in my estimation. “ Legend “ - Who are you trying to kid ? Not me for sure.
  15. He was the one player with the X factor. He could do things with a football that I could never do. So sad the injuries robbed him of what might have been.
  16. We all know the culture throughout the club has been rotten for years. We’ve been perennial losers. The total inability to come back from going behind. The total lack of ability to win midweek away matches. Always losing the big games. Always managing a win when it doesn’t matter anymore. These things tell me all I need to know. So a clear out was needed. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t. But a least we are trying to do something different.
  17. At the risk of repeating myself my view is that having two very similar central midfield players was doing us no favours in the long term. Neither of them had much in their locker regarding either scoring or making goals. We were a pretty defensive outfit without ever becoming a team similar to the Howard Kendall team that seemed to win 1-0 every week. We had 7 at the back at times but still conceded goals. Something had to change if we were going to become a more attacking team. I think now we’ll have one defensive midfield player and an attacking central midfield player. Neither of Travis or Tronstad had the required ball playing skills to play the attacking central midfield role. I don’t think either player has the necessary athleticism to do the amount of explosive running required in the role. I was surprised to see how short of real pace both of them were in the WBA game. OK it was early days in the season but they were both really pedestrian. You can get away with that in the defensive role but not in the attacking role. In summing up players come and go, it’s part of football. Am I heartbroken about Travis leaving ? In a word -no. When Wharton left I was inconsolable.
  18. I think Ipswich signed Travis as insurance policy in case Sam Morsy self destructed. He didn’t, so Travis was hardly used. That tells me the management at Ipswich thought Morsy was a better player than Travis.
