  1. Box ticking exercise. Always reminds me of what John Williams used to say about fan representation in boardrooms - Let them be part of the superficial stuff but the real decisions would be made in their absence.
  2. Always made me laugh when Nick Collins or whoever would try and get a rise out of him by asking his opinion on a Ferguson mind game. Cue a shrug and ‘we concentrate on ourselves’ Compare that with Keegan.
  3. He has a couple of lines through the rest of the article On Alf Ramsay: ’He didn’t know the players like Walter Winterbottom, he was a bit naive at first. To be honest, the lads took the piss out of him, although he obviously learnt quick’ On wages: ’’I went from £14 to £17 to £20 a week. Then Jimmy Hill got involved. I went to a function with Jimmy McIllroy, who told me Burnley were offering him £50. ‘Bloody hell Jimmy’, I said. ‘How are you going to spend 50 quid in Burnley?’.
  4. Great piece in The Times today talking to England players from 1954 until 2014. Bryan Douglas talks about ‘58 and ‘62. It’s probably behind a paywall, so:
  5. 1986. Great couple of websites here: https://ewoodpark.jimdo.com/blackburn-rovers-glorious-legacy-winning-identity-kit-history/ http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Blackburn_Rovers/Blackburn_Rovers.htm
  6. His wiki, the Mark Lawrenson anecdote alone does it for me ? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Friday
  7. Maybe try and do something with these breakless 45 minute halves next. Can add in an IPL style ‘Tactical Time Out, Sponsored by Tag Heuer’...
  8. Hull already do. https://www.hullcitytigers.com/tickets-landing-page/memberships/memberships-how-to-buy/
  9. Because a succession of managers continued to play him, he has racked up a shed load of games at this level - so his agent will always be able to get him a gig as an ‘experienced Championship midfielder’.
  10. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44396446 Saves the club trying to think of another 23 landmarks in Blackburn and Darwen.
  11. No more seedings. Extra time removed, straight to pens. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2018/june/extra-time-to-be-removed-from-carabao-cup-matches/
  12. Steve Bruce - 0 caps. Howard Kendall - 0 caps. Colin Harvey - 1 cap. Two out of Everton’s ‘Holy Trinity’. Amazing really when you think of some of the players that have played for England this past 15 years.
  13. And therein lies Villa’s problem in ‘clearing the wage bill’, a hell of a lot of average footballers on money no non PL club could possibly match (or even want to).
  14. https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/far-east-company-bids-25m-for-blackpool-fc-1-9196506 Take it with a pinch of salt with the Oyston’s, but £25 million for a third division club with no training ground (well a field and a couple of portakabins) and a three sided ground. Once again, nice one Walkers...
  15. Indeed! ’EFL’ is a cracking example of today’s administrators. They didn’t realise (or maybe they did and didn’t care) that they had something already that focus groups and an expensive re-brand couldn’t create - tradition and heritage that gave it gravitas by default. The Football League goes back to the very foundation of the professional game- ‘founder member’ is still a term that means something. Even the emblem went back decades, but they just replaced it with something resembling a washing powder company. The Americans get a lot of stick, but they realise the strength of their sporting brands rests in its traditions - look at baseball - still wear the pyjamas, no sponsorship, the organ music and all that.
  16. Who the feck were those two clubs before oil money? If you play in the ‘EPL’ and the CL year in year out, you sell shirts in the Far East, end of.
  17. Why on earth would any English person have an ‘obsession’ with Scottish football? *Final comment.
  18. I’ve been on here some years now and this is hands down THE most boring debate I’ve ever seen (more fool me for getting involved!).
  19. Horsey, do you have these ‘debates’ on multiple boards or just this one? Seems very time consuming...
  20. Defensively he still looked pretty solid, however he began to hoof and slice the ball out of play on a regular basis. Lenihan can go all the way to the PL, in my opinion and then there’s King Charles, so that was that when Lenihan got back fit.
  21. That Ferguson, knew he wasn’t up to it...
  22. Shilton? And it looked it in that semi final...
  23. I don’t know a single person that gives a toss about Scottish football. I doubt most folk down here could name a single player in the SPL - maybe Scott Brown at a push. No obsession, just this horse fella giving out plenty, but moving the goalposts every time he’s caught out.
