Who should we be developing them for though? Spurs? West From? Birmingham? Or Rovers? I was pleased that we were offering players new contracts to ensure they didn't leave for nothing, but I assumed it was because we wanted to keep them. Now its looking like why we did it to get the money to keep the club afloat. What's the point of rich owners?

Brighton's story always cuts deep with me. One of my best mates was a Brighton supporter and we used to walk our dogs together and talk football non-stop. At the time (he's dead now) we were in the Premier League and Brighton were in Div 3! He talked excitedly about all the plans Brighton had---new ground, Div2 by such a date, Premier league by such a date and so on. I used to go along with it, thinking "he's dreaming" but it all came true! And to top it off, we are the ones now looking at the third tier! We are finished if Venkys stay. Everything they touch turns to shit.

If Venkys walked away and simply gave the Club to new owners (hopefully local) they would save millions every year. Its a no brainer. No chance of ever getting their losses back. Why hang on to it making cuts on cuts that take us father away from recovery than ever but still making huge losses? I wrote years ago that the only protest that would have impact on Venkys is if nobody turned up. It won't happen so we will simply die a slow death. At this moment, I doubt we will exist in 10 years.

Exactly! This has become a mantra now! As far as i know he was perfectly happy here. Never heard any different till the Indian tax fiasco. Its a cover story. We needed cash so he had to go. The rest, I suspect is made up.

Eh? He's bound by the contract he signed. Yes-- all we had to do is to find the next "best keeper since Brad" for less money than we got for the previous one. Easy!

If he's contracted of course you can. You could certainly get more than £2M for a Premier League player in those circumstances. Point is it was only Luton who wanted him so they were never going to pay big money anyway. But we took it because we were so bloody desperate. He's their best player FFS. All tracks lead back to the useless owners in the end.

We never should have sold Kaminski. Best keeper since Brad. I said at the time it would come back to bite us. How many points has that decision cost already?

Markandy, on the other hand has been totally consistent.

I've seen nothing to suggest Markandy is a Championship player. Given his limited appearances it appears JDT thinks the same.

I must say Shearer's criticism of "fatigue" in modern players raised my eyebrows. In his day with only 2 subs, players paced themselves because they were down to play for 90 minutes. Subs were not so much a tactical move then but more to cover injury. Now players go all out knowing that the manager can change half the side. Moreover he's not likely to replace his keeper and his centre-backs for tiredness, its the mid-field and strikers who most likely tire. And we don't have that option for reasons we all know. That puts us at a disadvantage compared with other sides and, imo accounts for the fact that we concede so many late goals. Often after missing enough chances to go clear because we didn't sign a striker worthy of the name.

Mike England was so much better than say Harry MacGuire and he went to United for £80M and that was 4 years ago so probably more than £75M? Agree with the other 2.

And 3 full internationals as well! What would they be worth at their peak now?

Sigh! Remember it like yesterday. Chatting with strangers all the way home about the game .. Still the best way to get to Ewood and back, none of the worries about parking, why can't that come back?
