True but it wouldn't be a surprise if he was looking to impress Mowbray enough to earn a contract. In any case, I'd be very disappointed if we did sign him. Like Downing, we are just signing other clubs cast offs. Boro and Stoke didn't see the need to keep either Downing or Adam and these are clubs who you'd expect to be trying to move forward and compete at the top end of the table, which is where Mowbray tells us we are trying to move forward to.

At the moment, I don't think Raya should be our number 1. He should have probably been sent out on loan in the past. That said, he's still young and there is a chance he will improve, I just don't know by how much. Again, a problem if TM thinks Raya is basically solely responsible for our defensive shambles.

A bit worrying this. No urgency in getting any defenders in because he thinks we will be a much more possession based team. Not sure we have the players for that. And it would probably mean a back 3 with wingbacks (which we don't have)

The position Payne plays isn't a priority for us in anyway shape or form at the moment. Hopefully, it's just paper talk and we are keeping our cards close to our chest with regards to potential signings.

I can understand where he is coming from. In an ideal world, players we sign shouldn't be guaranteed a starting spot and should come in and fight for a place in the starting 11. However, this isn't an ideal world. We are basically a defensive shambles. The challenge for a starting place shouldn't be thrown down to new signings but to the defenders already here, who have largely failed last season.

This is where my frustration lies. He said all the right things and it seemed that he had a plan in place for the summer to improve the starting 11. I'm not convinced Downing will be a player who will be starting every week and we were chasing a reserve centre back for a year or so. We can only wait and see what has happened by the end of the window but frustrating start as far as I am concerned.

On the face of it, not really a great signing. No longevity and will only take time away from more promising players. Conway was a player who could be brought on "to see a game out" and I suspect Downing will be used the same. When Conway left, we were presented with a good opportunity to have a player from the old guard leave and replace with someone who could be here for a number of seasons. Instead we've signed someone who will be here for 1 season at best. Despite all the above, he's a Rover now, so he'll get my backing.

Overall, their contributions were minimal as they didn't play enough but as they are more up to speed with how Mowbray wants them play, he can easily spin that they will be ready to contribute more and be like new signings. Forgot Samuel as well, another new signing.

Brereton, Rothwell, Davenport, Chapman and maybe even Gladwin. Could spin that line for all of them, Rothwell did get a good few games at the end of the season mind you.

That indicates that there isn't much to spend. Free transfers, loans and any signings would be younger players who would need time but we looking to make a profit on. (I appreciate we are always looking to make a profit on players)

If that's the case, then no one at the club can possibly say it's a signing worth making. If he's that shit, they have to delay it just to try and get more sales done, then he ain't worth signing at all.

No, sometimes he really doesn't help himself. Perhaps he did it to try and entice bids because he believes he will get more money to invest but the reality is, he won't. £5m is optimistic to say the least.

Dack rumors were inevitable. I reckon we probably will lose him this summer. Mowbray has said in the past that it sometimes takes selling the prized asset in order to build the team. As others have already pointed out, this never happens with Venkys in charge.

I can't imagine any club just sits and waits until the end of the season and then decides a budget. They must be scouting players, looking at contract situations all the time and these would have to fit into a budget structure of some kind. Budgets will be impacted on relegation, players sales, player injuries, FFP, it has to be an evolving process. Even in our case, i can't imagine we just wait until TM and the gang go over to India to decide a budget. Conversations must have been going on throughout the season.
