  1. First up lad, we're Rovers, not "Blackburn". And I've never seen a Leeds fan "in peace" ; parts of Ewood usually end up in pieces after your lot have been. Having said that, Saturday should be a good game if we turn up - which we didn't for the last home game against your Yarkshire rivals Sheff Utd. Unfortunately I think you'll win because we've been poor recently.
  2. Point I was trying to make was the Charlton game was bit of a nothing match against unglamorous opponents yet we still had 26,000 plus on. Club was in a good place under Souness before he went into Col Kurtz mode and I don't know if there were any special offers that day but I doubt it.
  3. Que ?? Delving into the archives it was the 2002-03 season 2002/2003 Sat 12 Apr Blackburn Rovers 1 - 0 Charlton Athletic League
  4. I remember a towards end of season game against Charlton circa 2002. We were going well, though not top 6, nice day, we won 1-0 thanks to a Duff goal. Not many up fom London but there were more than 26,000 on Ewood IIRC. Cannot imagine that now.
  5. Dougan - what a bas***d. Grew up in the stunning urban metropolis that is Belfast and subsequently went to play and live in the ungrey city of Wolverhampton. The all-time biggest hate figure to wear our beloved shirt. Q: Which famous Rovers player and England international was killed during the Battle of Passchendaele in the first world war?
  6. That's appalling. A chap I used to work with always said "the game's bent" - and he didn't mean just football. People talk about corruption in Russia and China and third world countries but this country is as bad as anywhere. It's less obvious and more under the surface here.
  7. Good idea. Works well in the oval ball game so why not footie? Creates interest for the fans and going down to 10 or 9 men for a short time gives managers on both sides the chance to show their mettle.
  8. Too many yellow cards, too many sendings-off. I'd like to see a return to sensible refereeing where serious foul play or bad behaviour such as spitting is punished but players do not get booked for lesser demeanours. Players are getting sent off these days for 2 yellows given for only minor offences - it's plain daft and it spoils the game
  9. Smith's is an opinion piece - you agree with him or you don't but he has every right to state his views and the LET shouldn't be castigated for giving him a forum to do so. Columnists do have to tread a fine line though between being thought provoking and unnecessarily controversial. I thought his latest effort was OK.
  10. ..... or even Keith Andrews !
  11. It's certainly galling that fourth division clubs such as Bournemouth and Watford are making multimillion pound profits and are valued in the hundreds of millions while we languish in the lower echelons up to our eyeballs in debt. But more to the point - what is Burnley FC worth now compared to us ?
  12. Six years is a very long time when the majority of managers have a shelf life of less than 3 years and many considerably less I'd suggest a rolling 12-month contract for all managers and players - keeps them focused and hungry.
  13. It's a fair point - we'd be alot stronger and likely be in better league position now if we'd signed a couple of big solid centre backs for the price we paid for Brereton. Fans need to lay off him though. The lad's hardly been in the club for a few weeks.
  14. He's back. But he's probably right. Another managerial failure by Mowbray akin to the Sheff Utd no-show and it could be 3 or 4.
  15. Failure to invest from a position of strength during the close season and unnecessarily and constantly changing the formation of the team during a match are 2 entirely different scenarios. Nice try though
  16. Evidence yet again that Mowbray overthinks and tinkers too much. It must be confusing for the players and it certainly didn't make any sense yesterday Hasn't he heard of the phrase "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?
  17. Are there modern equivalents of Glenn Keeley or Derek Fazackerley out there in the lower leagues ? Add those 2 to this team and we'd be up near the top
  18. Rubbish. They're all Lancashire, including the Manchester and Liverpool clubs. Each one is a local derby. And while Lancaster might be the county town it's never been the "heart" of Lancashire
  19. 15,000 (about) for a Bolton v Rovers derby is very poor.Would have been 40,000 plus in the good old days. Welcome 3 points but my goodness we were awful in the 2nd half. We're an OK mid-table side. The likes of Sheff Utd with their extra quality will beat us easily
  20. ManU 2-2. Mourinho in job for another week.
  21. You don't get match fit on the bench. They have to play 90 mins at some point
  22. Was there any justification for those substitutions?
  23. Lowe .......bound to score. The immutable law of the ex.
  24. It's different and it's the team that fans were calling for but we won't know if it's any good until after 90 mins
  25. Fans happy with the team - has Mowbray been reading the comments on here ? Now the team have to go out and perform
