Not sure Gudjohnsen would be much cop upfront on his own. I think his success was largely down to having a strike partner who did all the running/donkey work. -

Yeah, for that English ref to blow for time a split second before a Brazil player headed the ball in to goal from a corner was ridiculous. Anybody else would have waited until either a goal was scored or the ball was cleared. -

You can't not drop someone after they play that badly. Nobody is saying that we literally have to play him, just that it costs us money every time we don't. If he had remained in the side in the next game it would have confirmed that theory and given ammo against the regime. Plus he clearly needed a game out of the firing line, and a bit of a kick into gear. The fact he came back in so quickly after, ahead of someone who actually plays that position, further reinforces the theory. -

I'm talking from the perspective of a loaning club. An ever-present, a frequent scorer, and a 3 million quid new signing isn't going to make them feel like their lad will definitely get game time without guarantees, in what may only be one spot. -
It all started off so well. He was a highly regarded poster who would provide us all with important season ticket sale updates using his own calculation system. He loved being the "go to" man on this matter. He duly took the praise that came his way. His opinion was respected. He was a part of the family...and then suddenly... things changed. They say "never meet your heroes" and you @Goozburger are the embodiment of that for me. I can't say how disappointed and stunned I was when I randomly one day, happened to stumble upon the other forum, only to see Goozburger laying into this forum and it's members for being "negative" and using other hurtful words that I can't bring myself to repeat. I couldn't believe it. I thought things were cool? How wrong I was. It really did feel akin to that gutting feeling you're left with after seeing what your hero is really like. He stated it was the negativity and moaning that drove him away from here. What he calls "negativity" is what I call people "saying it as it is". I do not recall anybody personally abusing him or telling him to shut up or anything as such when on here. He'll know better than me on that front. If anything like that has happened, then I may understand his disdain for this place, to a point. However if any of us "saying it as it is" over the years about Pasha, Venky's, the crooked agent tossers etc is what has upset you and caused you to do a Sol Campbell on us...then me and I suspect nobody on here will ever apologise for that. We cannot apologise for speaking the blunt truth about the wrecking of this club and the people at the heart of it. They deserve every bit of stick that comes their way. It's nothing personal against you, Gooz. It never was. Of course, you are entitled to debate on here and share your opinions. Nobody is telling you otherwise. However, I can't tell you how sad it was to see you turn up here on Saturday evening with a smug 'ha, how did the boycott go?' type of vibe. If you're honest with yourself, you will know that I am correct with that assessment. That's exactly what you tried to do but then tried to bat off as respectful opinion. Anyway... it's never too late, you silly sausage. Pull yourself together and remember what we once had. Get away from those no hopers you associate with, and get back home on here, is my advice. You will see when the poison has left this club and we are back in the Premier League under new owners that the noisy lot on here were spot on to be calling out all the bullshit. Spot on to be trying boycotts and more. That time is coming.

The whole "18 games to play, 54 points still to play for", really loses its gravitas when in the last 18 games we've played, we've only picked up 22 points Forgive me for being cynical Val -

Spot on. They have both been solid left backs playing in a normal uncomplicated system. And they have experience. I guarantee they would all play better with an English manager playing a simple style of football and letting them express themselves. Itvis early days but it seems to be working for United. -
The loudest alarm going off for me is the fact we haven't seen able to beat any of the teams around us. As far as I can remember we have dropped points to every single team from 16th downwards, even Sheffield Wednesday. Granted some of those were draws, but still, I think the signs are extremely ominous if we are not able to prove ourselves superior to a single one of the teams we're battling out with on an individual basis. With how tight the league is this year, it's entirely plausible that as the season ends there will still be a ton of teams competing for a top six spot - which means less likelihood of teams being 'on the beach' or resting players for upcoming playoff games.

Souness was just a right place, right time kind of thing. It worked until it didn't, and it was obvious he wasn't going to turn it around, so Newcastle's approach was a blessing in disguise for us. Souey's only real sustained success in management after his stint with Rangers in the late 80's was with us. He needed a specific environment to be successful, and for whatever reason that was us during the majority of his time here. He wasn't a particularly good manager in his post-playing career, but for us he was great for a decent period. Sometimes it just clicks for a while between a manager and a club. It was an unfortunate end with some really poor signings and fallings out with players, but nothing can take away the achievements of the previous years. It'll be interesting to see who Leicester appoint. Clubs in the Championship aren't averse to looking abroad for young, on-the-rise head coaches, so it wouldn't surprise me if it's an appointment of somebody that few on these shores have heard of. I can't imagine many would have been able to tell you much about Kim Hellberg, Vitor Matos, Eric Ramsay, Julien Stephane or Sergej Javirovic before they were appointed at Boro, Swansea, WBA, QPR and Hull. Leicester aren't exactly flush with cash, either, and are looking at a likely points deduction in the near future, so they aren't going to be hugely attractive to bigger names.

Of the 2,I'd choose Pickering every time, but Cashin played well yesterday and he's staying in on that form. Not really buying the has to play story, especially after being dropped at Swansea after his terrible debut. -
It’s that run in after Easter I don’t like the look of. I know this league pulls out unexpected results, which we have really highlighted this year, but I can’t help thinking we are squandering the fixtures in which I expect us to garner points.
-
I’ve always believed it to be because the watch isn’t stopped for every single stoppage in play. Therefore the 45+? Or 90+? Are really after the final attacking threat when time is reached.

Rovers 2 - 2 Hull is my prediction. No idea why, just have a feeling that Rovers will manage a point, despite what the form table says. Maybe I'm pinning all my hopes on Gudjohnsen being back and him picking up where he left off before the injury. Ismael has a really big call to make on what system is used if Gudjohnsen is back. If he starts, then for me it's either this: Toth Alebiosu Miller McLoughlin Cashin Tronstad Forshaw Jorgensen Cantwell Morishita Gudjohnsen Or this: Toth Miller O'Riordan McLoughlin Alebiosu Tronstad Forshaw Morishita Cantwell Jorgensen Gudjohnsen Ohashi simply needs benching. The lad is clearly knackered and his form is abysmal, so time for a break. I much prefer Gudjohnsen with a strike partner, but I worry about that LWB spot. -
He didn't, he said not prepared to pay the "going rate" for Championship players, which I took as fees. Take your point though, fair comment.

I was thinking maybe it will take more points than average. With Sheffield Wednesday barely competitive and compared to recent years, not the same level of dominance at the very top, there are more points to be shared around. -

We're absolutely not beating these lot. They're 3rd in the form table, 4th in the league, have won 5 of their last 6 away from home (as @JHRover points out above). Players coming back or not, we're still a shocking squad with an incredibly poor manager. I can see us taking an absolute humping here. 0-3, a load of excuses and a call for calm as we still have 17 games and 51 points to play for)
