so it looks like Lucas and Brett will be heading off to Oz on the Wednesday before the first game of the new Premiership season.

Surely that rules them out of our opening game..... great!!!!

Also looks like the Axe and Benni will be off to play a friendly against Namibia (sp).. surely international friendlies could be played at a more convenient time

I would'nt worry too much about it, they may not be around anyway.

Hopefully in Berts cases he loses his passport on the back.

Cant see Mccarthy playing in the friendly if hes due to play his first game in the premiership, remember he did retire from the international scene for a bit, so he probably isnt that interested.

Didnt the axe stop playing for South africa when he was stripped of the captaincy?

Dunno about that, but the list of call-ups is on the official site.

It says that both Benni and Aaron will be playing for SA against Namibia and that Lucas and Brett will be playing in the AFC cup against Kuwait. Zurab is playing a Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroes.

Well, from what I understand, that is wrong. Australia will be fielding all domestic players for the ACQ game against Kuwait next week and latest news is that, most Euro-based players will be available for the Bahrain game in Sydney on Oct 11th.

Yeah this issue came up a while back and the aussie coach said he would try to operate a rotation system for the top players otherwise they'd miss half the season as Aus are now in the asia group.

Can the players not get injured against new zealand ;)

Spot on AIU, the only players that might get a call-up are players in Italy (the league hasn't started yet), and maybe one or two from the Scandinavian Leagues or lower English Leagues.

Chances are that Lucas and Bert will be called up for the Bahrain game in Sydney on the 11th of October and a possible fixture in Brisbane on the 7th.

Now there is a fixture on the 7th October against Paraguay, so they would be available for this game and the Baharin game as it's a FIFA Internationals date.

Kristian Sarkies

I see him making it to a european club one day in the not so distant future

ive chatted to him numerous times, very arrogant bloke and goes out on the ######/smokes too much.

built up as "the next best thing"....but no one has really seen him prove anything on the pitch in the a league.

but he bought me a 8 dollar beer so it all evens out

Must admit, these internationals seem pointless. The season is about to begin, and all of the main players will be with their country set ups. I think the FA, UEFA And FIFA should have a long big think about what a waste of time this is.

Players are not going to give it their all. They will most probably play until half time and International managers will have been told not to risk any big names.

Scrap the friendlies and have them after the Prem has started.
