Dunnfc Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 http://www.redissue.co.uk/news/loadnews.as...W&id=350443 darren fletcher, good young player, if boro go for him , we should....centre midfield and right wing.. Fletcher is no better than the current crop of players we have.
Mozzer Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 with tugay getting on, savage not having the best footballing ability, id say fletcher could be a good buy..
nicko Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Apologies. Fulham ARE back in for Jason Roberts and they may be prepared to pay the £4 million asking price. It has been back on the agenda for a couple of days, I dismissed it as a possible but it could happen. The snag will be finding a repalcement. If Rovers can't then I think he will have to stay.
bob fleming Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 The snag will be finding a repalcement. If Rovers can't then I think he will have to stay. Would we really need one? Rigters, top scorer in the U21's tourny, can't even make the bench? Benni, Santa Cruz, Derbs, Rigters, Gallagher.
Exiled_Rover Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Would we really need one? Rigters, top scorer in the U21's tourny, can't even make the bench? Benni, Santa Cruz, Derbs, Rigters, Gallagher. Good point. Part of the reason Rigters was so cheap is because he was being played out of position at his previous club (on the wing rather than upfront). I wouldn't turn down £4m for Roberts.
pksrover Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Good point. Part of the reason Rigters was so cheap is because he was being played out of position at his previous club (on the wing rather than upfront). I wouldn't turn down £4m for Roberts. I would, cos with Benin, Roque, Derbyshire and Roberts we got 4 strikers that we know can have an impact on any game we play. If two of them doesn't play well in a game, well then Hughes just throws the other two in and they will make an impact! Its important that we keep Roberts!
Dunnfc Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 As long as we get a decent cheapish replacement in im not to bothered.
Mozzer Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 i agree, if we can get someone better then roberts i would sell, we do need a replacement tho if he goes...
frosty Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I'd accept £4m for Roberts. There's better and younger out there for cheaper.
Mozzer Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 realistically who is better then roberts that is cheap and younger???????
USRoverME Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Have to say, I'd be against letting Roberts go at this point. Srue we have a lot fo strikers apaprently, but currently, if Roberts leaves, Benni, Derbs and Santa are the "proven" strikers. If one of them goes down via injury, then our only cover are two players that have either no prem experience, or spotty exposure in varying roles. NOT the position to be in if you want to push for top 6. Lets say Rigters is a flop, if Benni gets hurt again, say the concussion flares up, would you really want a strike force that was Santa and Derbs, with only Gally in reserve?
T4E Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I'd be tempted at £4m but only if we replace him. Nicko, whats the story with Nugent? Are Pompey really looking to move him out already?
brian_gallagher85 Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Nicko, I know it's early but any talk on Dyers replacement yet? Will they be stepping up their interest in Tugs now?
eddiewac Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 they might end up having to play bellamy on the right wing....he'l be happy
Philly Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Serious question to everyone advocating the sale of Roberts: who would you suggest Rovers replace him with? £4 million may seem like a good deal, but considering the inflated transfer market this year, it's highly unlikely we could replace him with a proven striker and turn any sort of profit -- especially considering there's only three days until the window slams shut.
laughatthedingles Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 Just heard guys, Huddlestone deal is on. No idea of a fee or if it involves a swap with Gamst (hopefully not unless Hughesy has another gem lined up). On Roberts, for 4 million I'd be tempted to take it but as many have said, who do you replace him with?
rovers_rob Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I agree Phily, I think villa paid about 4 million for Harewood and Roberts is a far better player. I would keep hold of him unless they offered really silly money which would be 6 or 7 million.
McClarky Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 We certainly don't want to be selling anyone this week. We saw last season what happens when a club with our size squad get s a few injuries and suspensions. The squad might look big now but take 5 or 6 players out and its not that big. Ideally I would still like us to bring in a creative midfield player and a right back but keeping what we've got is the main thing. I think Hughes is smart enough not to meddle with what looks like a well balanced squad which can go far this season. I can't believe that anyone would want Defoe instead of Benni. Taking age, Defoe's Englishness and the fact that he is a media darling into account we would lose about £6M on the deal and get a far worse player.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I'm with Mc Clarky on this, it's a bit late in the day to be letting players go. Unless we've got better players lined up already I'd stick with what we've got.
1864roverite Posted August 28, 2007 Posted August 28, 2007 I just cant see how Spuds will let Rovers take Huddlestone when he is such an important player for them. I have watched him and when he plays Spuds are uch more effective going forward. They just dont have another player in the mould of Huddlestone and to sell him dont make sense with their ambition of having a full English aka British 11. However, if I am wrong then great, would love to see him in a Rovers shirt.
