92er Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 In my 35+ years as a Rovers fan, we have won the the following: old 3rd Div Champions - manager Gordon Lee promotion from old 3rd div - Howard Kendall promotion to prem via play-offs - Kenny Dalglish prem league champions - Kenny Dalglish Promotion to prem - Graeme Souness League Cup - Graeme Souness In my book that makes Souness a very important part of my Rovers experience, and indeed our proud history. Of course it all went down the toilet, but some people have way too short memories and conveniently forget all the good stuff he did for us. What about that funny cup in 1987?

Tim Southampton Rover Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I won a Subbuteo cup as Blackburn so add it to the list! Nicko, should we be worried about Hughesy leaving to join the spuds if we beat them at the weekend?
nicko Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Nicko, should we be worried about Hughesy leaving to join the spuds if we beat them at the weekend? I think he is a live candidate for reasons stated before - they wanted him as part of a team with Trapattoni a few years ago and obviously rated him as one for the future. It would not surprise me if there was a call now, but would he fancy the turmoil that is Tottenham?
Tim Southampton Rover Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 It would not surprise me if there was a call now, but would he fancy the turmoil that is Tottenham? Hughesys off then!
nicko Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 A tip for those who play the long game, betting-wise, and might want a punt on Championship Relegation. Get on Coventry fast. You will see why shortly...
USRoverME Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Nicko, Their financial situation is even worse than hitting administrtion by Christmas?
nicko Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Nicko, Their financial situation is even worse than hitting administrtion by Christmas? Sooner...allegedly of course.
morrison Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Does anyone know a booker that still has open bets on relegation from the championship? Not easy to find
bluebruce Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 4) And finally, yes, according to the article, they are Pakistanis. Pakistanis have no history of having any deep seated interest in football and as such I would personally have no confidence at all that if this deal went through that it wouldn't simply be a means of flogging Ewood or Brockhall off for a profit or other purpose. If it was a Pakistani group who were longstanding Rovers supporters that fear wouldn't be as valid, but that would appear not to be the case as they apparently previously bid for Derby. If I thought any backer(s) had deep enough pockets AND the right intentions it wouldn't matter a jot to me what their nationality was, or the colour of their skin. Kindly engage brain before tossing around thinly veiled accusations of racism in future. I didn't accuse, I asked, in a polite and logical fashion. My brain was sufficiently engaged, thankyou. So you can put your little angry emoticon away. As others stated though, you appear to have made rapid sweeping generalisations that imply that no Pakistani who ever lived held a deep seated interest in football (You say they 'have no history' of it...as someone else said this is rather like saying New Zealand have no history of producing good footballers simply because the majority have been crap). The Thought police have arrived Yeh right. I'm one of the least politically correct people I know. Anybody who has met me knows this perfectly well. But one thing I won't brook is racism. If you believe in freedom of expression you're going to have to believe in my freedom to tell racists where to go. I'm certain that it's quite the opposite in this case otto man...... You're right. My university degree counts for nought and I never think.
bluebruce Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 a pakistani consortium taking over the rovers, well that would take the biscuit.first our town then our football club, maybe if we sold curries/samosa's/chapatis instead off holland pies the circle would be complete, heaven help us And with posts like that, I think my fears were founded.
Neil Weaver Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Does anyone know a booker that still has open bets on relegation from the championship? Not easy to find As I type, 9/1 at Totesport, 7/1 at Paddy Power, 7/1 at Stan James
EwoodGlory Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Cheers for the tip Nicko, waiting for Megson to get named so I can collect off that Championship Relegation Odds
mjs Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 What about that funny cup in 1987? I remembered that after I had originally posted. Don Mackay is a legend too!! How could I have possibly forgot that day? Mind you, I was very very drunk at the time!!
den Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 And with posts like that, I think my fears were founded. Yes they were. I left that up, so that everyone can see what is unacceptable. We still had someone post that there had been no racist comments, - it might have been better if they had actually checked that statement. That's where the line is drawn now. Nothing else like that will be tolerated.
RevidgeBlue Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 What about that funny cup in 1987? For the sake of completeness it was called the Full Members Cup at the time.
Damage Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 For the sake of completeness it was called the Full Members Cup at the time. perhaps you can enlighten us further Rev?
modes98 Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Cheers for the tip Nicko, waiting for Megson to get named so I can collect off that Championship Relegation Odds 9/1! With cov almost certain to go into administration that's not a bad at all. May have a cheeky £10 on that later!

But you ARE being PC, YOU imagined what was going on in peoples minds at the time of writing that post, NO evidence of racism and yet you accuse and I quote,"Most people" of having just those thoughts....Madness!
LeftWinger Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Just jumped on the 9/1 with Totesport with 25 English Pounds. Profiting off other clubs misery!

nicko Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Thought for the day... Is there a finer sound than the bookmaker opening his satchel?
thenodrog Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 perhaps you can enlighten us further Rev? Basically a knock out cup format played between participating clubs from the top two divisions. Introduced during the English clubs ban from European competition following the fatalities at Heyshall as a result of the misbehaviour (yet again) of Liverpool supporters. ............... Sorry for 'misbehaviour of Liverpool supporters' can you take it as 'incompetence of police/officials/stewards etc during Liverpool matches?

Sorry for 'misbehaviour of Liverpool supporters' can you take it as 'incompetence of police/officials/stewards etc during Liverpool matches? Absolutely Theno! You just managed to avoid a knock on the door at 3am from the PC Police there. I have visions of rows of 6yr-old's sitting with arms folded at school, and chanting the mantra "Liverpool fans are never wrong, Liverpool fans are never wrong......." ad infinitum.
