If Rovers can get someone better then fair enough, though you could say that about every other Rovers player. For me hes a far better defender than Steven Warnock.

He's probably one I think we could sell and get a decent price for though.

Better defender than Warnock? I don't remember Warnock making mistakes, and he didn't gone for pace like Givet does whenever he plays a quick winger.

Also, by posing a threat going forward, Warnock gave his opposing winger some defending to do. Givet doesn't do that.

Granted Givet doesnt do anything going forward but this is a different way of playing than the old 4-4-2. Warnock though was an out and out liability as a defender at times, yet he deflected the criticism well by always publicly bollocking somebody else which didnt fool me that easy.

Givet should be 4th choice centre back and reserve left back. There is a crying need for a proper left back who can defend (Givet is barely adequate at LB)and offers more going forward than a chipped punt in the vague direction of a striker. At Spurs his defending was as dopey as he looks.

Not drop, sell. :)

I decided to find my post from a while back to counter the 'knee jerk' comments:

Doesn't make me right obviously, but at least it shows I'm not reacting just to Saturday's game.

He's an honest pro and gives his all, but he's just not right for this league. We'd be a hell of a lot stronger if we replaced him with a proper left back and left Samba, Nelsen and Jones fighting over the two central spots.

And if Jones goes in January?

I might be wrong but the Warnock I remember made at least 1 mistake a game and he has a tendency to go too far up and the his position exposed. That's why i wasn't too upset when he was sold.

As for Givet, I think he's a victim of his own previous high standards. I don't remember him making any major mistakes in the last 2 season which is why his mistakes are magnified this season.

Then we will have a lot of money to replace him.

I do. Usually when moved to centre back.

Not right fit this league? Strong in the tackle, good positional sense and wears his heart on his sleeve.

I think his positional sense is somewhat poor, or has been of late. The other two qualities are ones that you would expect from a League 1 defender...I prefer my defenders to be quick, skilfull and able to read the game.

He had an out and out nightmare against Spurs no doubt. But selling him? I agree that we need a specialised LB for sure, if only we could combine Olsson's pace and Givet's defending (plus a few extra inches so he could win something in the air)

According to Tribal football on the connected news updates, he is homesick and Avignon Arles are interested in him.

It's been over a year since I saw him play live so I presume he's gone backwards as he seemed decent prior to me leaving Blighty.

I dont think Tribal is the most reliable of sources and Avignon Arles have just picked up thier first point in 9 games in their first season in the French top flight. It would be quite a comedown from The Premier League. I'd never heard of the club so I googled them and I see that the destroyer of Rochdale Kaba Diawara is there!

Unless they've got a lot of money, they can be as interested as they want, can't see him considering them.

Is he planning to run it down then? I guess that's £3.5 million we'll never see again.

Givet's a good honest pro and doesn't deseve your dismissive tone.If you want to point the finger at contract 'runner-downers' you need to be focusing on the Zurab's and Ritger's of this world.

I don't get it, what has Rigters done wrong? He has tried to leave a few times should he just walk out on his contract because he isn't good enough? The lad has seemingly handled himslef well enough.

As for Givet, him wanting to stay is hardly running his contract down, he's easily good enough to get a move away if he wanted, I just hope he stays as he's great most of the time I think.

Ole ole ole ole Givet Givet!

Givet signed for four years. He plans to see it out. I can't see why that would be a problem. He has been good value so far.

Depending very much on the rest of his package of remuneration, the details of which I'd imagine only a few will know.

However it is in keeping with the current very damaging (but very overdue) trend to run contracts down and maximise on wages which is also in keeping with JW's (and lately Phil Gartsides) definition that we are now a 'Trading club' rather than a selling club. If nobody's buying and nobody wants to be sold then selling clubs are a thing of the past and no doubt why we appear to be gift wrapping Phil Jones for the January sales.

Ditto Zurab. Zurab is a decent fellow and doesn't deserve that being said about him.

I don't doubt Zurab is a decent fellow Mum,it wasn't a personal attack per se more an observation around pro's prepared to waste several years of what is a relatively short career at a club where they're clearly no longer wanted.

But how is that their fault? Especially in Rigters case where he has looked around for a new club and the club prevented him moving to Scotland last season.

I know and I blame the club for not having the balls to go ahead with that..they were never going to use him.

I'm sure Zurab has been presented opportunities to leave in the past but clubs have not been able to afford him due to a reluctance on his part to drop his wage demands effectively pricing himself out of the market.

As you said. A waste of his best years.
