Noone knows. But if Santa Cruz didn't want it, then the club would have had no reason to want it themselves.

The economic reasons for the club wanting it are clear - he was signing a contract when his stock was high - if we hadnt put the clause in we would not have got anything like £17m for him after his second season. Its perfectly feasible we wanted it as much as he did.

No-one knows? Kelbo said he knew.

Anyway, I'm not going to repost the same stuff time and time again, so if you want to know why the club would want a get out clause inserted into RSC's new contract, go back and read again, because I've already explained.

Was their not some sort of contract negotiations prior to him leaving maybe just after Hughes left, I seem to remember that Nicko said a clause had been put in as part of this new deal.

Exactly, and in Bellamys case, the clause was put in before he would sign, thats why we only had a season out of him!!

From what I have found out today there is absolutely nothing in the Samba to West Ham thing.

Hammers don't have the money for the fee Samba would command.

And I would really find it unlikely that they could offer him the kind of wages and signing-on fee that would interest him either.

Is there any indicator as to how long this Guti move could take? Id suggest the success of this transfer window largely hangs on whether he arrives as the rest of the players we've been linked with would just add numbers to the squad not add quality.

I see Big Sam is back and, judging by his appearance at football Aid, moving in the right circles...

It's basically up to Guti. Rovers need to get an answer from him, but you can't really give him a deadline as it is obviously an ego-massaging exercise just now.

There is no suggestion anywhere else that he has a deal lined up, so the way is still clear.

I wonder if Rovers are holding back on this one until they are 100 per cent sure that Grella's deal to Galatasaray is on. That one still needs a medical, which could obviously be an issue if he breaks down during the World Cup finals.

HOW BIZARRE IS THAT? TRIED TO TYPE football AID TWICE AND IT COMES OUT AS 'FOOTBALL'...

people suggesting to get rid of samba - are you crazy ?? hes by far our best central defender - i wouldnt even get rid of him for a striker

Nobody is suggesting getting rid of Samba, it's just some peoples opinion that we'd happily trade him for a top class striker. It's not something that's likely to happen.

Think he asked ZZ, Figo and Larsson if they still fancied a kick about  .

Only the subject of Samba, would you swap him for a Darren Bent? Imagine if Bent would of got some of the chances our plonkers fluffed this season, we would of been around evertons position.

Keep Beattie away, bad egg, too old and too fat. On a free i would of said it worth a punt but for 2million  .

Any of the old targets like Crouch and K Jones been mentioned nicko? Very very unlikely i know but just wondering.

You cant say football !! The swear filter changes it.

Which is an immature joke by the way. Personally I prefer the term football, but when something has s*o*c*c*e*r as part of its official title people should be able to type it as such. Besides, it's you English who invented the term, not us Yanks, and yet you have the audacity to be snotty about it. Classic asinine behavior. Cue the belligerent retorts............

Good to see an American team playing in a World Series where the rest of the World is actually involved :D

...Well you did ask.

What else should they call it?

Major League Baseball has been calling it that for 107 years now. Anybody else have a top-level baseball league?

And NO, Japan's short-fence league does not apply. Sorry.

Its probably because it sounds so irritating when the word is said in an American accent. It makes the British fan think of those effing budweiser adverts, fat middle aged men in shorts 'hollering' and that awful children's cartoon the Hurricanes. It somehow resonates with the whole commercialised, glory supporting, Champions League obsessed nature of the modern game.

I do hope that amidst this "ego-massaging" he also realizes he'll have to get down and dirty and play in the mud if he wants to make it in the Premiership, as Salgado had done, otherwise this won't be a very fruitful endeavor.

JW has said we don't need to sell and I don't see any reason not to believe him.

Samba is on a long term contract but is probably the player most at risk of going amongst those we don't want to see leaving. That said, a West Ham bid is only a risk if West Ham are back in suicide mode offering Eggman wages again. And if the porn boys can afford those sorts of wages, they can afford a fee well north of £10m for him.

If Ledley King or Dawson come back from South Africa injured I would be worried about Spuds making a move for Samba. Otherwise the big clubs are either skint or ok for central defenders or more likely to look elsewhere.

Re your last sentence Phillip, King has gone to South africa injured ! How he gets out of bed in the morning is a miracle. I still thinks Spurs are the big threat vis-a-vis Samba. West Ham, no chance.

Thank you BC for the reasoned and thought out reply (kind of rare for this board), and most of that I can certainly relate to. My only beef is when something has the term in its official title. One should be able to type an organization's name without having to leap through the swear filter. Besides, you can't hear our accents through the keyboard. :P

The World Series was originally so called after the newspaper that sponsored it, and not some US attempt to big-up their tournament.
