Clubs far bigger than us fail to hold on to their best players.

Why should Rovers be any different?

Until people accept that fact of life, it's all just hysterics.

Agreed. But we should not be seeing headlines such as, 'Rovers will listen to offers for Jones'. That is an invitation to any club interested in Rovers players.

Do the club write the headlines now?

Everything hinges largely this summer on being able to keep hold of our best players.

And Hughesy's favourite solution "Get rid of deadwood!" would help as well.

Robinson, P. Jones, Samba, Hoillet Olsson.

Plus maybe J. Jones, Rochina and Formica breaking through and if there is money available for a couple of new strikers there's a lot of reasons to be optimistic there.

We have varying degrees of "deadwood" but Grella, Andrews, Dunn, Roberts, Linganzi, Goulon, MGP, Emerton, Kalinic should all be moved on imo if anyone will take them.

Why Emerton? Deadwood??????

We haven't seen that headline anywhere, and we won't. So what are you on about?

The only bright sparks are some decent youth coming through our system right now. The squad is still full of deadwood or players that have been kept at the club way too long for some unknown reason. There is a lack of goals in this side and creativity is still an issue centrally. Then we have the manager situation.

Can't really get that excited or hopeful for next season tbh.

Oh my word. Reality check needed for a lot of folk here.

We could be a lower-league club hurtling out of existence, struggling just to make ends meet. But no, we're an established club guaranteed another season of top-flight football, with the bonus of more transfer funds than we've had in recent years.

Losing Jones would be a blow, but it's hardly unprecedented in today's current climate. I'm sure Venky's, however, will get both barrels from the fans should it happen, despite the power being firmly in the player's hands.

Until someone comes in and starts chucking stupid money at Rovers, keep your expectations firmly on the ground.

As a bunch of serial liars I'd say they deserve whatever scorn they receive from the supporters. I'm sure that even you must take whatever they come out with with a huge pinch of salt.

;) Makes more sense now Simon.

If you take away the last 2 games, Emerton had a poor season.

Bah.

I think he has been sound. If he needs moving on we are all in all a very poor team.

Listening to some our only good players are the two about to leave, and our goalkeeper.

If true - this season is going to be s nightmare.

The biggest problem Rovers have is this, we have no sponsor or shirt sponsor, without which, season tickets cannot be processed, shirt sales and commercial sales will stagnate as they cant be a replica until the sponsor is sorted, cash flow will be seriously hampered and we are going into a transfer window without an experienced negotiator on behalf of the club!

We really are a club in disarray, it should have been planned for but it appears as though the owners dont seem to do things like planning or are they not listening to the people at the club. I do recall Venkys stating they had some top sponsorship lined up, wonder where they are?

Like many other supporters, I am really fearing for our future.

IMO, there seems to be no plan and no leadership within our club.

Add to that an unconvincing manager, earlier gossip and speculation about his relationship with the players is increasingly emerging, and the alarm bells are ringing loud and clearly.

Do our top players really want to play for him (I said earlier that if Jones goes then the floodgates would open) ? Anyone excited about his wish to sign RSC, MB Diouf, Larsson etc ? Who is valuing players, negotiating transfers, new contracts etc ?

Some have used the term 'exciting times' - my adjective would be 'despairing'.

IMO, our new owners had a lucky let-off in surviving in 2010/11, the omens for 2011/12 look more foreboding.

High time we had a yawning emoticon on here.

I have remained pretty level headed through the last few months so i hope this isn't perceived as hysterics.

But i have real concerns about our footballing future if Jonesy leaves. After Samba's comments and the likelihood of his contract extension containing certain clauses, it would seem the ambition he was hoping to see from Rovers is going to disappoint. With clubs sniffing around it would be very surprising if we kept him. Without those two we'd have two of the slowest center halves in the league. Givet and Nelsen.

More of a worry is the Hoilett situation. I don't need to re-hash what others have said, but his loss would be huge. I just couldn't see him signing on with the loss of Jones and possibly Samba. Considering everything, we stand to lose every one of our best performers barring maybe Robinson. The two Jones', Samba and Hoilett. That scares the life out of me. It would put a big emphasis on how Formica and Rochina can perform next year.

This summer is a big test for everyone at Rovers. If, as it looks, Jones is off then we need to make a strong statement saying that the exit gate at Ewood is firmly shut. Show some ambition and bring in some decent premier league standard players. Hate to say it, but we could do with Barry Rao's marquee signing this summer. Nothing like last January's debacle. But something on the quiet. Announce a press conference and unveil, whoever it may be. Do it with a bit of class. Lose the Primark suit and tartan blanket and make Jerome Anderson earn his stripes.

I made the statement a couple of weeks ago that if Jones left then the game was up for Venky's and Kean. For that, there was the usual rhetoric from some.

Well, I'll go a step further and say that when, not if, Jones goes then the game may well be up for our club.

IMO, we will then see the imminent exits of Samba, Hoilett, Robinson and possibly Olsson. You can't keep a player if he wants out, furthermore, our contractual position with Robbo is weak and even weaker with Hoilett.

Posters talk about reinvesting, however, with the greatest of respect, Stephen Kean is hardly a magnet for talented players and, in any event, who, of note, worth and quality, would want to join if they could see all our better talent leaving. We would get those looking for a last pay day, who couldn't cut it elsewhere. The likes of Warnock, RSC, MB Diouf, Riordan, Miller etc do not excite me and, IMO, would say everything about the state of our club.

No hysterics but merely pointing out how, IMO, how desperate our position now is.

These are very sad times. It is a long, long time since we had players who were the envy of the top half dozen clubs. We are in acute danger of snatching mediocrity from the jaws of a potential golden era.

Mercerman, you shouldn't be near any topic entitled 'Brighter future'...

Would you be saying all of this if the Trust (and JW et al) were in charge? We'd have even LESS money to spend and STILL be auctioning off our best assets. If Jones wants to leave, it's because we aren't a top-four club and can't offer him CL football and England recognition. There was very little we could do to keep Duff, Bellamy, Bentley, Santa Cruz... I don't know why people think we suddenly have the pulling-power to keep star players at the club. Wise up.

Dont bother Topman, he went underground for a fortnight after we avoided relegation, now our star player is off he's crawled from under his rock.

Ada2020, like many, it's best to get your facts right first before having a go at folk. Firstly, I went away on holiday and I am not that desperate enough to log into this MB when on holiday and secondly, I've been doing a fair bit of travelling recently in connection with my job. So there you have it!

Convenient is all I'll say.
