Ricky Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 Interesting move for Wickham. I've hardly seen him play but at 18 years old he's a good one to go for if he is as good as the hype.

A cup of beans Posted June 22, 2011 Posted June 22, 2011 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_7000185,00.html Ji Dong-won is set to seal a transfer to Sunderland. "I know there will be stiff competition" snigger, snigger!
philipl Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I find it shocking that we have Bentley, RSC, Bellamy- three of our top players being sold for amounts that have not benefitted our club. 8 million pounds for Bentley is woefully short when we sold him for double, Bellamy was worth at least 12 million- an amount he subsequently went for and RSC was talked about alongside Torres in the goal scoring stakes so again to give a sizeable chunk of the profits to Bayern is depressing. Rumour has it that Samba has a clause meaning we need to give money to Hertha... At least with PJ we got a big fee, got to keep it and inserted a clause to ensure we get more money. Gosh you are twisting history all over the place there. Definitely not somebody who has not been following Rovers very closely for very long.
braddock Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 To be honest with the way that the club was being run (and as far as I know this was the best way at the time given the situation) those sales were necessary to keep the club afloat and pay wages. Nothing wrong with that, that was the way we had to operate back then. I'm glad things appeared to have changed
imy9 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Gosh you are twisting history all over the place there. Definitely not somebody who has not been following Rovers very closely for very long. How far back do you want to go? We had a clause inserted in Duffs contract and that was what 10 years ago? Twisting history? Have a look at our best players in the last 10 years, how much they went for and how good we were at the negotiations. Don't worry I expect a snide remark as opposed to a reasoned response.
Backroom Tom Posted June 29, 2011 Backroom Posted June 29, 2011 Roberto Di Matteo has been announced as the new first team coach at Chelsea, I think that will be a good appointment
jim mk2 Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Am hearing that Birmingham City owner Carson Yeung has just been arrested in Hong Kong for suspected money laundering. For some reason the drugs squad was called in to search his offices. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow

I'm quite relaxed about our sales over the past few years under the trust. The biggest loss and I've not much knowledge of why it happened was Cole leaving for nothing. Alf must have thought that it was his bloody birthday! The worst dealings by far were in the latter years of Jack Walkers life when we chucked so much good money after bad on the likes of Grabbi, Blake, Dailly, Per Frandsen, Dahlin etc etc. Ever open cheque books and poor managers have proven a desperately bad mix. Not wanting ever to criticise JW but those were ludicrous and stupid losses. Just a shame that he did not live long enough to have worked with Mark Hughes. For what it's worth and despite what a few of our younger members may naively choose to believe The Walker Trust has done a damned fine job from a much weaker financial position just as many of our rivals were flexing increased financial muscle.

The Trust were just lucky they had Mark Hughes as a manager. Without him turning water into wine, we'd have been up sh*t creek without a paddle.

Massive speculation and conjecture on your part Topman. You are heading for a fall I feel. btw they weren't lucky that they had Mark Hughes as manager cos it was they who appointed him. You make your own luck as they say. Granted they weren't infallible as they also appointed the dud that was Paul Ince but they remedied that by sacking him once the writing was on the wall and replacing him with the best man available.

Too bad they didn't back him when he proved to be a genius. Instead, they practically opened the door for him and allowed the squad to devalue whilst flogging off our best assets to the highest bidder. That 'weaker financial position' you speak of was self-inflicted.

I sort of share that opinion but it's difficult for even the Walker Trust to compete with the likes of Abromovich and Man City's bankers. They might have done more (and if I was in charge they would have done more) but no one has a crystal ball do they?
John Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Liverpool appointed Kevin Keen as first team coach on Sunday as part of manager Kenny Dalglish’s reorganisation of his backroom staff.
thenodrog Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 No it's not April 1st. These pillocks are serious! Given the state of the economy it's sick. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13998365.stm

Given the state of the economy it's sick. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13998365.stm I saw that the other day and laughed too - its a disgrace, why should they get public funding?? Im sorry but use the old 'it will create jobs' bullsh!t all you want....it is purely so they can get a bigger stadium to make more income, nothing more, nothing less! I hope West Ham sue them too!

Exactly right Hughesy. I can only assume that that the taxpayers of this country are being asked to chuck money at Spurs (despite their already massive annual income) in order to redevelop WHL so that it will hold another 20k, the end result of which will boost their income and make it much easier for them to compete better for the likes of Bentley, Samba and Phil Jones. Personally I'd rather chuck my hard eardned on the fire. Their intent is virtually criminal and their arrogance is astounding.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 And we think we have problems! Who can you trust?
youandwhosearmy Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 12m + for Doyle the Wolves striker made me laugh out loud... no way would arsenal pay that. Complete load of #%&£#!
John Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Manchester City have confirmed the City of Manchester Stadium will be renamed the Etihad Stadium after signing a 10-year deal with the airline.
PAFELL Posted July 8, 2011 Posted July 8, 2011 Liverpool appointed Kevin Keen as first team coach on Sunday as part of manager Kenny Dalglish’s reorganisation of his backroom staff. I believe Liverpool will have a really good season this year - sad to say. Leicester city to be promoted to the prem.
Hughesy Posted July 8, 2011 Author Posted July 8, 2011 Manchester City have confirmed the City of Manchester Stadium will be renamed the Etihad Stadium after signing a 10-year deal with the airline. Much bigger than just naming rights. 10 year naming rights, extended shirt sponsorship - £150m vs Arsenal 15 year £90m deal They are also building the Etihad Campus & also a new training ground next to the stadium which in total its going to be worth about £400m to City.... Interesting that Etihad in Arabic has a meaning or Unity or United - therefore its more or less called the United Airways Stadium
