matt83 Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 These 2 new bowlers seem decent hope we stick with them. Think this kid will make it at test level. 1 Quote

Gav Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Dream start for Potts - He gets Williamson with only his 4th delivery in test cricket, and it’s at Lords. Quote
chaddyrovers Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Very good start by Stokes's England. Anderson, Board and Potts so far have been very good. Quote
jim mk2 Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Just like England in the winter Ashes aeries, NZ are obviously undercooked and under-prepared for this first Test. England never recovered down under and it's likely NZ won't either. Another series likely to be spoilt In days gone by touring teams arrived well in advance and had any number of practice matches to acclimatise and spend time out in the middle - but NZ have been here for only 10 days or so. It's not enough 1 Quote
only2garners Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 NZ have been in poor form for months, having lost a series in India (no shame in that) but then tests at home to South Africa and Bangladesh. Kane Williamson has been out injured for most of our Winter and only arrived in England at the weekend after the IPL and some paternity leave and no red ball cricket at all. Quote

Most test teams lose in India to be fair garners. Well Kane Williamson could have ended his time at IPL early and had some proper time here and in the middle. Same with Boult Quote

It's not enough I just looked in my “ Wisden “ for 1962 Jim. The 1961 season Aussie tourists played Worcestershire ( the traditional opening game “ ) on April the 29th and May 1st and 2nd. They then played Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Surrey, Cambridge Uni, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, The MCC, Oxford Uni, Sussex. All theoretically three day, two innings games. After that they played England in the first Test on June 8th. All the main batsmen had made hundreds by then, some had made two or more. 1 Quote

Large number of warm-up games over 6 weeks so the players were in good fettle for the first Test. It's one of the reasons so many Tests finish in 3 days - that and the player's aren't as good of course. Driven by money of course. One Test series per summer isn't enough now - there has to be 2 plus all the one-day internationals. Quality, as always, suffers 2 Quote

Those days on long tour and playing four or five first class games before a test series have gone now. Normal its around 2 first class games before a test series 1 Quote
Gav Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Good start by Crawley and Lees here, small steps, that’s all we need at this stage. 1 Quote

Normal its around 2 first class games before a test series Thanks for stating the bleedin' obvious and what we already know - which is missing the point entirely (no change there) Crawley out in the usual fashion, driving at a ball he should have left Edited June 2, 2022 by jim mk2 Quote

He looks like he getting better. Lees remembers me of Cook. Solid and defensive. Won't over attack tho Hopefully Pope can made the number 3 slot his own now after massive backing from Stokes and McCullum Quote
Exiled_Rover Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Strange they've announced Parkinson as the replacement player when he's sat in Manchester. I don't even know if he'll get to the ground today - it's a 3-4 hour car journey. Quote

But I agree it must be strange for him ‘bombing’ down 50mph M6. Edited June 2, 2022 by Gav 1 Quote
jim mk2 Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Pope - no hope. He and Crawley are so vulnerable outside off stump. No patience whatsoever. One-day players Quote

He still might be batting before 6.30. Quote
jim mk2 Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 98-5. New "era" just like the last one. No one can bat This isn't Test cricket 4 Quote

Ianrally Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 These English batters as they are called now should stick to battering fish. Quote
Norbert Rassragr Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 More proof that the county game and the ECB are not fit for purpose. And then we have that 100 nonsense, a format not used anywhere else in the world. 2 Quote
Exiled_Rover Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 This is a collapse for the ages. Clearly the change of captain hasn't changed their mentality. Quote
Ianrally Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 The mentality is for the white ball game. Test cricket is an art and the white ball game is for sloggers. 3 Quote
matt83 Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 Normal service resumed. Stokes and bairstow stupid shots given the state of the game 1 Quote
