the original david brent Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 In today's Goals section of the Sun, life long Rovers fan Tim Farron brandishes Venkys 'clueless', describes the sacking of Allardyce as one 'only an idiot would make', says he is cross with jack walkers daughter for selling the club to a 'bunch of clowns', longs for Venkys to sell, and ideally a fan buy out to 'have our club back.' I can't link the article as the Sun website is only accessible if subscribed to. Great article though - fair play to Tim Farron.

Mattyblue Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Good lad, now he needs to crowbar it into his party conference speech. Just a shame hardly any journos now bother with the Lib Dems
Mike Graham Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Good on Tim Farron. I understand that both he and his wife are lifelong Rovers fans. An interesting politician. He does not float my boat but hey ho we need different views to have a vibrant democracy.
tomphil Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Not seen it yet but great stuff if so. About time we had a strike back and a voice in the media for once not that it'll even register in India but anything that highlights what we are up against is a plus.
1arC Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Perhaps he should put some perspective on the article in the Daily Mail the other week about how the former manger was being persuaded to stay by the owners. Also a comment on how poor Myles Anderson who is good enough for the premier league, was hounded out of the club and how us fans reduced his Dad to tears on Sky Sports.
den Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Good stuff Tim. Needs someone with a few straight words.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted September 21, 2015 Moderation Lead Posted September 21, 2015 He's got it in a nutshell. Good lad Tim!
chris_h Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 That might sting. If only the Lib Dems still formed part of a coalition government, Farron's words might carry even more clout. Fair play to him anyway, I had no idea that he's a Rover.
oldjamfan1 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 A politician telling the truth !!! Whatever next!?
yoda Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Can't find it... It's in there read it myself this morning, he also had few words in his speech today about football at the Libdem conference.
arbitro Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Maybe a copy to Myers and Shaw for their response if anybody has a link.
Backroom Mike E Posted September 21, 2015 Backroom Posted September 21, 2015 It's in there read it myself this morning, he also had few words in his speech today about football at the Libdem conference. Sorry pal, I mean online. I still have a week of free subscription
yoda Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Sorry pal, I mean online. I still have a week of free subscription In the hard copy it is next to the game report if that helps, put your tongue back in, its rude and you are dribbling
Mercer Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Farron says “The problem is we have idiot owners who don’t understand about football". Whilst this sort of support is very welcome in highlighting what we have suffered for the last 5 years, it might have been a bit more helpful if 'big hitters' such as Straw and Farron had made their feelings known in the very early days when, IMV, our club was being ripped apart.

I met Jack Straw through work just when all the Anderson/Kean stuff was at its worst. We had a longish chat about it all and he was also scathing about the Trust's role in it and of course about Venkys but he never had the goolies to actually go public properly with his opinions. I couldn't imagine Alistair Campbell letting Venkys get away with doing similar to Burnley.
AllRoverAsia Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 It would be good to read such an article but I've never bought The Sun or subscribed to it and don't intend to start now. Got to maintain some standards in my dotage.

BlooBoy Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 THERE are so many easy gags about the fact there are only eight Lib Dem MPs. More players in a football team, for starters! But for their leader Tim Farron, the running of his beloved Blackburn Rovers under Venky’s has been no joke. The lifelong supporter has witnessed his club go from solid Premier League outfit to skint Championship strugglers during the current regime’s nightmare reign. Rovers finally landed their first win of the season against Charlton on Saturday, offering some much-needed respite to under-pressure boss Gary Bowyer. Nonetheless, the Lancashire outfit could still be in for a long season staving off the drop to League One and Farron blames the club’s “clueless” owners for the downward spiral. And he would love nothing more than for the Indian chicken farmers running his club to sell up — but worries they have no plans to do so. Blackburn fans make their feelings known PA WIRE The politician, 45, blasted: “The problem is we have idiot owners who don’t understand about football. “Then, because of their physical location they are not affected by public opinion — it washes over them, unlike the Oystons down the road at Blackpool. “They seem unaccountable in every possible way. What I now wonder is, what’s in it for Venky’s? I don’t know if they’re even looking to sell. I would be encouraged if I heard they were.” Pune-based Venky’s have had a disastrous reign since buying the club in November 2010. They sacked Sam Allardyce — a decision “only an idiot would make” according to Farron — and backed his hapless successor Steve Kean in spite of fan protests. The club were relegated in 2012 and in their first season in the Championship they hired and fired a number of bosses, including club legend Henning Berg. Venky’s have left Bowyer alone for the past couple of seasons. But a transfer embargo for breaking Football League spending rules saw the club lose Rudy Gestede, although they did hold on to star striker Jordan Rhodes. Farron in his Blackburn shirt Rex Features Farron insists Jack Walker’s daughter Lynda Matthewman should take her share of the blame for selling to the Venky’s. He added: “We are hampered by the fact we have terrible owners who have made calamity after calamity. “Part of me is cross with Lynda. I have to ask did they really do due diligence on the Venky’s before they sold? This meant everything to her dad and they’ve sold it to a bunch of clowns.” Rovers manages to keep hold of Rhodes PA Farron has been going to Ewood Park since he was a child and has stayed loyal through the bad times, the Premier League-winning Alan Shearer years and more bad times. And while he is unhappy with the state of affairs now, if he had been offered 30-odd years ago the glory season of 1994-95 at the cost of the recent misery, he would have “snapped your hand off”. But what Farron wants is for the club to regain some of its soul — and he would dearly love that to happen via a supporters’ takeover. He said: “If there was a fan buy-out that would be great. It wouldn’t give us a ludicrous amount of resources but it would make a difference to the feel of the club. “I would just love to have our my club back. I’d love to feel the players wanted to play for it and the people who owned it cared about it.” Like us on facebook And get all your stories first TELL US WHAT YOU THINK 0 Comments Post comment
A cup of beans Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Good on Tim. Jack Straw has remained very quiet during our plight. Funny that!
oldjamfan1 Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 While I don't think any of us would disagree with his sentiments, a leading politician calling the owners "clueless", "idiots", "clowns" etc is not the sort of language you would particularly expect someone in his position to use, and he clearly isn't going down the diplomatic route. I think I might have been trying to reach out to them a bit more in his position. If he was hoping for any sort of dialogue with them he can forget it now! By the way, in response to an earlier poster, the Lib Dems, Labour and Conservative Parties here in Scotland would snap your hands off for 8 seats between them!!
