G Somerset Rover Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I'm turning 30 this year. It breaks my heart to see people calling a 31 year-old over the hill. You're only as old as the woman you feel, Amo!

Blue Cabbage Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I'm turning 30 this year. It breaks my heart to see people calling a 31 year-old over the hill. I've just turned 30 and in Footballing terms would only be offered 1 year deals these days!!
davulsukur Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 You're only as old as the woman you feel, Amo! Well I'm 32 and my wife is 2 months older than me so.............tragic.
ABBEY Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I'm turning 30 this year. It breaks my heart to see people calling a 31 year-old over the hill. get used to it ...its downhill You're only as old as the woman you feel, Amo! 96 and no teeth mmmmmmmm
Baz Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Dont know anything about the guy, but at 31 he's an ideal age to act as a mentor to Hanley and Duffy. Hopefully he does as well as Craig Short did for us.
Steve Moss Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 I'm turning 30 this year. It breaks my heart to see people calling a 31 year-old over the hill. Let's face it Amarillo, you're headed to the glue factory.
Pedro Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/elliott-ward-new-signing-2912099.aspx 2,5 year contract for a 31 year old journeyman centre-half. Seems excessive for someone most thought would be coming in on a short term deal to cover for Duffy's injury, but hopefully he'll exceed expectations. Does this mean Lambert has been unhappy with Duffy and/or Hanley? It most likely means Kilgallon is on his way out because when we've finally needed him he's been crocked, ill or poor.
deryck guyler's spoon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 For all Duffy's ability as a no nonsense blocker, his ability on the ball is very poor, hopefully we may get a bit more compusure form Ward. As an aisde, a bloody Bournemouth fan saying this though: 'If he can stay fit he should do a decent job for a lower league club.' We live in strange times! Bournemouth aren't a proper football club by any stretch of the imagination. Welcome to a real club Mr Ward.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 But he was nudged out by Mike England, one of the best centre halfs of all time. Woods played in Australia and was capped by them, he then came back to England and played League football for a couple of clubsYou're right of course up to a point. I've got a photograph of him receiving a canteen of cutlery as a retirement present from the board immediately after his last game against Spurs. Yep, times have changed regarding players remuneration. He played and managed Stockport County when he came back from Australia and out of retirement. An acquaintance of mine played for his team out in Australia. He spoke highly of him. Bournemouth aren't a proper football club by any stretch of the imagination. Welcome to a real club Mr Ward. Looks like they struck lucky with a good manager though.
tomphil Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 He only turned 31 yesterday so hardly time for his pipe and slippers. As a centre half if he stays fit his best years could be to come. Like a few others I see him as a long term replacement for Killa who's showed signs that he needs a change from the few bits I've seen this season. Wards a bit younger and his wages will be less than Killa's probably plus he's a guy who Lambert trusts. No harm to have a bit of decent competition for Hanley & Duffy.
Butty Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Steele Marshall Hanley Ward Olsson (Probably Spurr) Bennett Akpan Evans Conway Graham Rhodes. Starting line up for saturday? That lineup should be able to beat Charlton in there current form, wouldn't mind if Taylor started instead of Bennett either. COYB
deryck guyler's spoon Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 Looks like they struck lucky with a good manager though. Indeed it does. Got lucky with their Oligarch sugar daddy too. That doesn't get mentioned much though. No history, no tradition, no support, they are the very definition of a plastic club.
47er Posted January 20, 2016 Posted January 20, 2016 If he turns out to be half as good as Kevin Moran he'll do for me. Took the words out of my mouth there! 37--good as ever. The only worry I have about Ward is that he isn't wanted at a club with the most ramshackle defence in the Premier League. Still it isn't the Premier League we are playing in and we just have to trust the manager here. We definitely needed more bodies for that position.

Good manager he may be but I struggle to warm to anything about him
bazza Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 He played and managed Stockport County when he came back from Australia and out of retirement. An acquaintance of mine played for his team out in Australia. He spoke highly of him. Matt Woods went on to manage Stockport. He sold us Johnny Price saying Johnny was a good winger but he'll never score you any goals. Matt was right and wrong in the same sentence. Price was a great winger and scored quite a few goals for us as well. Let's hope Ward keeps fit. I'm sure he has been brought in to replace Matt Kilgallon who seems to be struggling.

I think they struck lucky with a billionaire owner more like. The media driven Bournemouth love in is all a bit sickening, everyone forgets about their financial problems, not paying local creditors, etc. They also had an enormous wage bill last year and spent loads of money in January. Its so far from the rags to riches myth that the paper and tv are intent on pedalling. Same applies to Howe, he was absolutely abysmal (much to my pleasure) at Burnley.
Mattyblue Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 They finished 8th and 13th under Howe and he put together a lot of the team that Dyche used as his base for promotion. Agree entirely on Bournemouth, but Howe's a good manager.

Or another way of looking at it is the season they came 8th he came in January, so you cant accredit that fully to him and the following season they finished in no mans land. I cant remember what position they were in when he left but I'm pretty sure they weren't anywhere close to the top. He did pick up Austin from Swindon though so fair play to him on that.
Amo Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Talk about an overreaction to one comment. Technically we ARE a lower league club and we can't live on our past glories. Ward has been let go from a Premiership club and had to drop down a level to find first-team football. Obviously it grates to think of a jumped-up club like B'mouth looking down on us, but dem's the breaks.
Amo Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 You're only as old as the woman you feel, Amo! That never holds up in court.

I have some doubts.

They were commenting on him being released and being a good signing for ANY lower league club. Weren't referring to us specifically.

LewisF Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Anyone know what foot he (predominantly) uses?
Commondore Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Anyone know what foot he (predominantly) uses? His right, according to Transfermarkt.
