[Archived] Potential Daily Mail investigative piece

Recommended Posts

I spent this morning with Matt Lawton (Chief Sports Reporter, Daily Mail). I took the opportunity to discuss Venky's mismanagement of the club. Like a lot of journalists, he (quite reasonably) wasn't aware of the finer points of the situation, such as our debt going from £20 million to £120 million, the farce of the Myles Anderson signing, the agents fees, the Portuguese signings etc.

He is however, genuinely interested in doing an investigative piece on Rovers, which he suggested stands out above all the other disastrously run clubs' stories because of the '95 win. He specialises in investigative work and has run pieces on Seb Coe, the Wiggins issue, and other controversies, so he is a serious guy who might be able to do something high quality for us. Obviously, that's dependent on the quality of the info he can get access to.

He asked me where he could get more information, so I pointed him in the direction of the Action Group, but he'd also appreciate high quality paperwork summarising the accounts, the links with SEM etc. I have some stuff that's already been released, but if anyone has any validated, worthwhile stuff please could you send it to me at david.riding@manchester.ac.uk so that I can collate it and send it to him. Anything that you think is usable for a national paper would be great.

Cheers,

D

Follow the money indeed ....... and why Steve Kean, for all his faults, has a couple of years as a manager on his CV, including in the Premier League, yet since leaving Rovers he's not even been interviewed for another job in this country (as far as I am aware) and has been holed up in the footballing hotbed of Brunei.

Got to watch some of these journos for playing both sides and maybe finding out who knows what then letting others know so they can cover their tracks. I seem to remember having a few sparring sessions with this guy on twitter when he was pro Kean.

I wouldn't trust one of them but they've no scruples either so i suppose they'll quickly switch sides for a story.

Aye step 4 of the money trail was it?

Now lets have a look, Huber, Cresendo/Kentaro out there and VH Group recently opened up a new facility there in addition to the new home of SK.

Fishy....

He was the prick who wrote the piece on Kean getting 500 letters a day so he's either got a short memory or he's full of the brown stuff.

just reading that piece again makes me sick in my mouth!!!

Terrible article. 500 letters? Per day? Sheesh! Wife in danger? Lying cnut.

They change with the wind these journalists paying lip service along the way.

if he is serious about wanting to know what happened and also wants a look at the documents, he simply needs to log on to www.venkysout.com. The information is building almost daily on this site and has everything to show someone who wants to know the facts, plus more.

The more people that know about this site the better, so lets get this out there. Some great people have contributed to this site, with a common theme, they love BRFC. It is our duty as supporters to promote this, so I implore everyone on here to give it the exposure it deserves.

Thanks for the feedback, I've forwarded the link to venkysout.com and various documents to him, and he replied to say he'd look into it some more.

He did actually mention the Kean article, and said that he'd rarely had as much abuse after an interview. His explanation was that at the time, to an outsider, it just seemed like Kean was on the receiving end of a lot of excessive abuse because he was the lightening rod for Venkys, so he thought it would be an interesting interview. Obviously, he could never verify the '500 letters' claim which I suspect even he knew was BS.

We'll see if anything comes of it. What else can we do?
