Venkys - Welcome or Not?

Venkys - Welcome or unwelcome?

  1. 1. If Venkys apologised and stated that they would attend the next home game, how would you feel?

    • Hostile towards them
    • Willing to forgive and draw a line
    • Wouldnt care at all

Remember when they thought spending v five million a year would get them in the champions League?

What is it they have burned through? Something like £330mn? Ab third of a billion, something like £27mn a year. It's like Donald Campbell jumping into bluebird and not noticing it's in reverse gear. The way they operate, the business model at Ewood, I can't see it ever succeeding

After 13 years and nearly a third of a billion lost I can only assume that things are going to plan. If they aren’t, why have they not done something about it ?

One possible explanation is that they expected the fans to kiss their arse from day one, and they certainly didn't get that. So maybe it's a vindictive thing. I mean, you've got yer man fat booby Barry, he had some lad spanked with an iron bar on some cellar, for speaking out of turn. Or maybe he did the job himself. Can't quite remember.

But in any case, these lads don't do dissent tolerance. They also don't do business sense. Or just sense. But I don't want to be seen to be harping on.

It will only succeed if we get promoted. Like nearly every other Championship club, we'll continue to lose money hand over fist if we don't. And if we do get promoted the Venksters will have made the right decisions.

As for the past, I think Hanlon's Razor covers the Venky years.

They took over us sat 11th in Premiership with little or no debt, how would getting back in the Premiership show:

"Venksters will have made the right decisions"?

Made the right decisions to get us back up i.e. they appointed the right manager etc

I clearly wasn't referring to how we got here in the first place.

If the Venkys put us back to 10th in the premier league with about £20 million debt, got the stadium back to the same standard it was and employed a functional board. Ie the same condition as we were in when they darkened our door I’d still despise them for putting us through years of hell. There’s no coming back for the Pune loons, too much damage done

Sure the appointments of Steve Kean and JDT are indistinguishable from one another?

I honestly don't know where to begin with this. Piss poor.

JDT is the first decent manager that has been appointed under Venkys. All the others have been total dog shit. It took twelve years for that appointment to be made. Then you compare that to appointing steve kean, literally the worst football manager that has ever walked the face of the earth.

As far as I can see nothing has changed. There may not be as much mayhem as there was in previous years but the club is still locked in a downward spiral. The O'Brien transfer showed pretty conclusively that there has been no change in the way things are done.

Well guys, we're stuck with them, at least for now, whether we like it or not. Dichotomy of control, where there's no control, there's no responsibility. And certainly nothing I do is going to affect whether or not they sell up.

I look at football these days and there's so much I don't like. The mad kick-off times, the sport-washing, the amount of money floating around, the agents, clubs selling of their grounds for housing and building out of town anodyne bowls, bookies advertising on shirts, fans spackled off their tits on Charley Chang, spoiling for a fight. And yeah, foreign ownership.

I long for the good old days. But they're not coming back, are they? It's been buggered by greed. It's why I like the retro shirts because it lets me just live in the past and I can forget what a hellscape it's become.

So, let it go lads, get yourselves down b&q on a Saturday afternoon. Exercise the only agency you have in this matter and vote with your feet.

What context am I missing? UD said ‘apart from JDT, all the others have been total dog shit’. Not ‘generally they’ve appointed total dog shit managers’.

Ergo Mogga was ‘total dog shit’… he wasn’t.

(But then again UD was calling JDT ‘a dolloper’ a few weeks ago.)

If your decisions on buying a club wrecked it and you have been let down time and again by advisors who were supposedly acting for you but lining their own pockets

And there are no decent buyers

What is the decent thing to do?

Ensure the Academy is funded

Appointment of decent experienced management within budget who can manage to budget (which is enforced by FFP)

Finance the club to the maximum allowed by FFP

Keep out of the way and let management do their job.

What have Venkys done since the Coyle debacle?

All of the above.

You are trying to make them sound like saints. They are shysters.

They finance the club because they have to. It is their obloigation as club owners. All club owners have to pay the bills. Simple as that. They are rich and the amount of money they put in is nothing to them - they don't do it out of kindness. It's probably like me or you giving £5 to charity to enable us to not have a guilty conscience - but of course we could do much more.

Good owners would go above and beyond to ensure there were good staff on the ground in Blackburn to make sure players are happy and not letting their contracts run down to become free agents,

Good owners would be present on transfer deadline day to ensure there are no cockups. Good owners would be pulling out all the stops during January if there was any chance of promotion.

Good owners would take pride in the stadium and infrastructure and pay to ensure they are maintianed - no FFP implications there.

Good owners would listen to the fans and make every effort to increase attnedances rather than try and recoup the money by increasing ticket prices

Good owners would not upset the whole fanbase by attempting to sell Brockhall for housing while reducing the team's training facilities and destroying the legacy of Jack Walker.

Good owners don't need to be mega rich as long as they have the interests of the club at heart and work night and day to make sure it succeeds.

You say they let the managers do their job but didn't they prevent Mowbray from selling Rothwell and he then walked for nothing ?

Venky's are rich and that allows them to carry on this charade. They don't give a toss.

I wouldn’t say Mowbray was decent I’d say average. In the same way bowyer was average. Both steadied the ship following on from 2 truly dreadful managers. In time there will be no malice but he dined out on a division 3 promotion for far too long then made some shall we say ludicrous remarks about the fans that will tarnish him forever.

Decent/average, splitting hairs, really. But he should never be lumped in with most of the others.

‘Tarnished forever’… maybe on here, sure the wider fanbase will have forgotten most of the tripe he came out with already.

Bowyer currently giving it a right good go at Dundee and top of the league.

Nope, did a decent job.

(Obviously you despised the bloke a much as you love JDT).

I don't love JDT, but yes I despise any manager that runs down the club he's at in the media. Especially one as tactically inept as Mowbray.
