roversfan99 Posted Tuesday at 20:49 Posted Tuesday at 20:49 England are miles away from the worlds best. Defensively so poor and confused and imbalanced in attack. Quote
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted Tuesday at 20:58 Author Posted Tuesday at 20:58 (edited) That free kick at the end summed us up. We took an age to set up for it and then the ball in was awful. As it proved, it was more of a chance for Senegal than it was for us. Shades of Rovers corners. Edited Tuesday at 20:58 by Tyrone Shoelaces Quote
roversfan99 Posted Tuesday at 21:08 Posted Tuesday at 21:08 If Curtis Jones, Connor Gallagher and Jordan Henderson are serious contenders to anchor the midfield then you probably arent going to get very far. Same with the likes of Colwill, Chalobah and Burn at centre back.ย The vast majority of the attacking players all want to play the same position and its not the first attempt to try and squeeze them on together. If you even play 2 of Bellingham, Palmer, Eze, Gibbs White, Rogers and Foden at the same time then you are going to end up imbalanced. Quote
Gav Posted Tuesday at 21:12 Posted Tuesday at 21:12 Iโm not one for knee jerk reactions, but after another abysmal performance with a bonkers team selection and flying Toney in for 7mins, Iโm calling it now. Get rid of this moron now, heโs winning nothing and I think heโs lost the players already.ย Quote
M_B Posted Tuesday at 21:14 Posted Tuesday at 21:14 You've got to feel for Tuchel, knowing only a final appearance will do isย a daunting task. ย Quote

There's nothing wrong with Tuchel's managerial credentials. He needs to stop picking Gallagher and Henderson though. Former is useless, latter is past it. ย Quote

He'd have reached the final this time, that's the standard Tuchel has inherited. I just hope he doesn't ruin all Southgate's brilliant work throughout the whole set up.ย 1 Quote

We were incredibly fortunate we didn't go out of last year's Euros at the last 16 stage against Slovakia. Southgate peaked at half time of the 2020 Euro Final. After that match he should have been replaced.ย 5 Quote
Waggy76 Posted Tuesday at 22:24 Posted Tuesday at 22:24 It is about time friendlies and Nations Cup were scrapped.ย It is far too easy to qualify for major tournaments now..ย The better Premier league players are foreigners.ย Quote
speeeeeeedie Posted yesterday at 02:33 Posted yesterday at 02:33 The game was meaningless as far as qualification goes but I hope that Tuchel learned from it. The crowd certainly let him know that it was unacceptable. He must know too. It's time for him to ditch his experimentation phase and start planning for WC 2026. Get rid of Walker, Henderson (J), Burn, Chalobah. I'd probably ditch Gallagher too.ย Play a left footer ant left back, a right footer at right back, and start thinking about a central partnership, All of us on here want Wharton to play. Kane was goosed at last year's Euro's but still has it. He'll score another hatful for Bayern next season. If he stays fit he'll be as effective as ever. It's what Tuchel does with Bellingham that will matter. He can be England's talisman but Tuchel needs to play him where he will be most effective and avoid a Gerrard-Lampard situation. If that means not playing a talented player (Palmer for example) who could get in his way, then so be it.ย There is summer, more qualifying games, and a long domestic season to go before the World Cup starts. Tuchel was hired to win. His ego is/was big enough for him to take the job. Roll on to September. Quote
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted yesterday at 05:38 Moderation Lead Posted yesterday at 05:38 Aware we are missing a few players, but that still doesn't excuse some of the selections or the start we've made. It's very concerning and it looks like we've gone backwards, tbh. I'll only start really worrying if the September matches are as poor as the ones over the last few days. Quote

chaddyrovers Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Awful performance. Simply not good enough.from Tuchel and the players.ย Was expect Tuchel to be more ruthless in team selection and tactics. Not seen any of that.ย Walker, Henderson, Toney and Gallagher wouldn't be part of my squad.ย Lewis Hall must be England first choice left back when back fit.ย Look better when Gibbs-White was on.ย Lots for Tuchel to think about now till Septemberย 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Heโs been brought in as a short-term mercenary (both sides are happy with that arrangement) with the one target of one tournament, the fact he was appointed last autumn but got to swerve the games at the back end of the year tells you that. So he obviously wanted to rely on experience, which makes perfect sense if you are only in post for 18 months, I.e the likes of Walker and Henderson. Problem with that is, in the modern game, โexperienceโ can very quickly end up as โover the hillโ, in contrast look how young and dynamic the likes of France and Spain are. Still a year to go, so first remedial action is for the old timers to be jettisoned immediately. Edited 22 hours ago by Mattyblue Quote

I agree. And even if they're not substantially better now, they're young, should be the future, and need involved in the setup asap.ย For progression. Instead of wasting gametime on 30+ year olds on the decline.ย That's how Spain and Germany rebranded and made themselves successful to win a trophy.ย We're too dumb to even follow tried and tested formats that have gone before.ย 2 Quote

CaptainBeanfart Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) 13 hours ago, RevidgeBlue said: things had started to get very stale under Southgate and results and performances were going backwards not improving.ย How can you say results were going backwards when his last tournament result was to finish runner-up? You can make all the subjective performance criticisms you like. But, objectively, results were as good as 2018-2020. Edited 20 hours ago by CaptainBeanfart 2 Quote
roversfan99 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago The idea would make sense to get a manager proven to win trophies in order to get over the line. Southgate built a base on team spirit but came up short whenever he came up against a good team. Problem is, that platform isnt necessarily there, the squad of players has now regressed and is not at the level of previous tournaments. Much of the base and the foundations have aged and are over the hill now. You are left with a sub par set of defenders People mention the likes of Wharton, Branthwaite, Lewis Skelly, Livramento etc as players coming through but they are not top level players, yet anyway. Wharton is as close as any but unproven at the highest level. It feels like we are between generations/cycles of players with The mess at the end of yesterdays game saw maybe 4 players who all want to play in the same position all crammed in similar to what Carsley did. All of our best players do the same things in the same position. We are miles away from the levels of the likes of Spain. 2 1 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Of course unlike the plethora of players that have been given a go over the past year or so, Wharton would need to be actually given a chance. Quote

I know coaches can't go on forever, but the transformation he'sย overseen since he came in a credit to him. I heard a former player on 5 live this morning, he said that the England shirt is weighing heavy for players, it's something we haven't seen for years. We don't want to be going backwards.ย Quote
