But for 20 years Man United fans watched him week in & week out & never once voted him their player of the season

Who cares tbh. Is that what we measure it FFS.

Scholes was a great player and highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson, his team mates and opponents.

No way is Wharton better and I would suggest him being an ex Rovers is tainted your opinion

So highly rated that he would play Nicky Butt ahead of him in big games

What games?

Scholes is a PL legend and hall of fame. Is Wharton? Is he regular for England?

His next move will decide whether ge will be England regular and who he joins will be interesting

'99 Champs League Semi Final

Scholes was never a regular for England & when he did play would often cost them the game, see Brazil 2002

You not bored of trolling yet?

Some revisionism going on here. Fergie going with two DM's in a big game means Scholes isn't that good

700+ appearances, dozens of titles and 60+ appearances for his club. The little ginger lad was a cracking footballer. That's where it needs to be left. Couldn't give a shite about his POTY

I just had a look at the history of their POTY. He ain't in bad company is he?

Gabriel Heinze was some left back

According to you, the Man Utd supporters' opinions are what counts the most. They voted him as POTY. You must think he's fucking class. Premier League, La Liga, Ligue 1 and POTY at United.

Do you have him on your wall?

Weird that he’s never mentioned in the conversation of PL best left backs then isn’t it. Needs Paul Scholes PR man

The only person who's conflating "PL best.." and Man Utd POTY is you. Why do you hold United fans' opinions so highly?

Because they’ll have watched Scholes a lot more than people getting nostalgic over 3 minute clips of him now

What a strange hill to die on. United fans rate Scholes as a top class player. He was. What else needs to be said? If Wharton has a career half as good as Scholes he'll have done bloody well for himself.

Still waiting to hear from him how Adam Wharton is ‘far better’ (which is what started all this, not if he was better or otherwise than other top Ferguson era players, ‘better’ being if he won some internal club bauble… anyone would think he posted a throwaway silly comment and has tried to deflect since).

I think one thing that can be said is Wharton and Anderson have the benefit of the game in England evolving in a way that suits their style. Scholes never really got to play as a deep playmaker until late in his career. Earlier he was played more as a number ten or (ludicrously, particularly for England) on the left which didn't make the most of his talents. His team mate Carrick also suffered from the national team not really understanding the importance of that role. He just wasn't picked at all when in reality his skillset was what was missing the most from the England team at that time.

Tuchel gets it, and he is prioritising playing a natural deep playmaker over more experienced and lauded names, as he knows you need someone who can control a game in the middle of the park.

This is one of the dumber arguments that has been used on here.

Yeah I can sort of appreciate that there maybe is an argument there to suggest that Scholes has been overrated and overhyped post retirement. I dont agree with it but theres a discussion there.

To suggest that Wharton is better is clearly a new account on here to cause a splash. No way does anyone believe that.
