Is that what we measure it FFS. Scholes was a great player and highly rated by Sir Alex Ferguson, his team mates and opponents. No way is Wharton better and I would suggest him being an ex Rovers is tainted your opinion Quote

Scholes is a PL legend and hall of fame. Is Wharton? Is he regular for England? His next move will decide whether ge will be England regular and who he joins will be interesting 1 Quote
KidderStreetNoise Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago '99 Champs League Semi Final Scholes was never a regular for England & when he did play would often cost them the game, see Brazil 2002 Quote

Dreams of 1995 Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Some revisionism going on here. Fergie going with two DM's in a big game means Scholes isn't that good 700+ appearances, dozens of titles and 60+ appearances for his club. The little ginger lad was a cracking footballer. That's where it needs to be left. Couldn't give a shite about his POTY I just had a look at the history of their POTY. He ain't in bad company is he? 1993/94: Eric Cantona (France) 1994/95: Andrei Kanchelskis (Russia) 1995/96: Eric Cantona (France) 1996/97: David Beckham (England) 1997/98: Ryan Giggs (Wales) 1998/99: Roy Keane (Ireland) 1999/00: Roy Keane (Ireland) 2000/01: Teddy Sheringham (England) 2001/02: Ruud van Nistelrooy (the Netherlands) 2002/03: Ruud van Nistelrooy (the Netherlands) 2003/04: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) 2004/05: Gabriel Heinze (Argentina) 2005/06: Wayne Rooney (England) 2006/07: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) 2007/08: Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) 2008/09: Nemanja Vidic (Serbia) 2009/10: Wayne Rooney (England) Quote

Backroom DE. Posted 10 hours ago Backroom Posted 10 hours ago What a strange hill to die on. United fans rate Scholes as a top class player. He was. What else needs to be said? If Wharton has a career half as good as Scholes he'll have done bloody well for himself. 3 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Still waiting to hear from him how Adam Wharton is ‘far better’ (which is what started all this, not if he was better or otherwise than other top Ferguson era players, ‘better’ being if he won some internal club bauble… anyone would think he posted a throwaway silly comment and has tried to deflect since). joey_big_nose Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I think one thing that can be said is Wharton and Anderson have the benefit of the game in England evolving in a way that suits their style. Scholes never really got to play as a deep playmaker until late in his career. Earlier he was played more as a number ten or (ludicrously, particularly for England) on the left which didn't make the most of his talents. His team mate Carrick also suffered from the national team not really understanding the importance of that role. He just wasn't picked at all when in reality his skillset was what was missing the most from the England team at that time. Tuchel gets it, and he is prioritising playing a natural deep playmaker over more experienced and lauded names, as he knows you need someone who can control a game in the middle of the park. Quote

roversfan99 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Yeah I can sort of appreciate that there maybe is an argument there to suggest that Scholes has been overrated and overhyped post retirement. I dont agree with it but theres a discussion there. To suggest that Wharton is better is clearly a new account on here to cause a splash. No way does anyone believe that. Quote
roverandout Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Tugay never won Premier league player of the year or came close to a ballon'dor does that mean he was a poor player? 1 Quote

Nobody is claiming Tugay to be one of the best Premier League players of all time though. As I've said previously, Scholes was top class and there's no denying that but in more recent years he's been elevated to this legendary status that is a level beyond where he actually was. Time will tell which level Adam Wharton will be at. We all know he's pure quality but we'll have to wait and see if he cracks that very top layer. Quote
Mattyblue Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Has he? Was known as a top player when he played, known as one now. 1 Quote
