He won player of the year too in 93-94 above Shearer, who was banging them in weekly.

Batty was an exceptional player. I'd have him in before Sherwood any day.

I'll go with a formation fit for 2025;

                      Friedel

Salgado  Nelsen Henchoz  Le Saux

                  Batty Tugay

                    Warhurst

   Bellamy       Shearer      Duff

I have Warhurst in there as he'd have been an England regular without injuries. He had it all. Proof of that was him being signed by Sheff Wednesday from Oldham as a central defender, they stuck him up front in a pinch and he scored goal after goal. Rovers signed him and he played central midfield like he'd always played there.

Warhurst was the most versatile player I've ever seen in the sense he was excellent in every position. Most "utility men" are OK but not that great in any position.

Warhurst was classy and composed at CB, comfortable at RB, cultured in midfield and didn't he have an insane scoring spell as a striker before going us from Wednesday?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he have a great shot on him? Need to do some digging now. He was very good at Wednesday I recall.

Also belted one past a certain Mr Schmeichel ....

Moved to Palace then scored against us, think they got relegated that season or the season after too

Anyone who is around 40 years old would have a very similar team as there best 11.

Pedersen is an interesting one, for me though there's probably 3 I would have in front of him on the left.

Unfortunately for any other left winger they have to get past Duff. The first season back in the Premiership he virtually kept us up single-handedly.

Wasn't that the game where Gerald Ashby decided "That won't do" and decided to send Berg off and award a penalty to even things up?

certainly was,upsetting fergie was akin to stealing the fa cup in those days

It was. I was in the Jack Walker lower very close to the incident and was convinced Berg got the ball. I've not seen it for a few years and it's even more a non-penalty. The move starts at 17.15 with a big boot from Schmeichel;

Rovers were robbed at Old Trafford that season too. Lost 1-0. A perfectly good Sherwood header was disallowed for a push by Shearer on Roy Keane. Start at 0.45 if you don't want to see their goal. Watch Keane. He completely lost the flight of the ball.

What made it worse IIRC was that Ashby refused to review the decision later and therefore Berg's red card stood and he was suspended.

I had no problem with ref's making mistakes in pre-VAR days - even if I didn't like the decision - but that was just bloody minded.

A mistake I can accept but there was definitely something off there. There were rumours that Ashby had been shall we say feted by Ferguson and Man Ure over the years.

A good number of years ago we did a “rovers greatest ever team” discussion and vote. Lots of posters took part, arguing for their favourite player in each position.

It would be interesting to read that again but it might not be on here now.
