Once they walk then a new owner comes along. 

Many, many, many owners have given up owning clubs and funding losses and have passed it over to someone else to take it on. 

League One Reading managed it only last week.

The fans don't need a plan on that front. It isn't a job for the fans to concentrate on. All we can do is hope the new owners are better than this lot (highly likely).

No club has ceased to exist because an outgoing owner hasn't found a replacement.

The Venky’s can’t just “walk” - they own the club so are liable for any losses until they agree sell to a willing buyer who’ll then be responsible for said losses and a plan to run the club better.

What we don’t want is absent ownership content to cover the losses by asset stripping, whilst the value of the club slides further into the abyss and fan numbers continue to drop off a cliff.

The fans only job is to highlight the nonsense, state the facts & failings of the last 15 years and support the team on the pitch.

What's the plan if they walked?

Put ticket prices up. Introduce a match-day buying tax. Cut a number of long-serving staff. Get rid of things like the women's team. Make the first team squad made up of a a majority of youth players, loans and freebies. Cut any fan-friendly services which cost us money, like match day programmes and Radio Rovers. Sell half of Brockhall for land. Reduce travel expenditure like flying. Cut back on non-essential ground maintenance.

After that, we will see how much of an annual loss we actually need to fund.

Whoever was going to buy the club, would want a deep dive into the accounts and also the history of when the current owners bought it and what went on.

This in my view is the biggest reason for them not selling, as I suspect they are scared of what that would uncover.

Again, this is my opinion, but I suspect if they saw who is on the payroll and what they are doing to justify their wage, then it would give them some real explaining to do.

For what it's worth, if someone came in with funds to invest and had a properly structured plan and they really got to the bottom of where the £20m really goes, they could find a way of keeping things relatively lean and probably give us a chance of returning to the premier league.

Lets face it, we have had every little financial backing for the last 2 years and a bit, yet nearly made the play offs in 2 out of the last 3 seasons. if the new owners know how to read send instead of save and get a loan over the line on deadline day, without falling foul of missing deadlines by a couple of minutes, that could be all it takes.

On the losses, I listen to the 'Price of Football' podcast and they have set out how even the best run Championship clubs (better run, bigger gates than us etc) still lose significant money - so whoever took over will need deep pockets to even standstill.

Owning a football club is an exercise in philanthropy, unless you’re 1 of about 5 clubs in the world, who actually make money. 

If you aren’t willing to fund heavy losses, it ain’t for you.

It typically appeals to egos too, hence the likes of Ryan Reynolds at Wrexham.

Fwiw, if we were all pulling in the same direction with a clear plan, communication and owners who gave a shit. The losses wouldn't be so high.

I think of it like this. Back in the day you'd see people without 2 pennies to rub together, but they would scrub the front step of their terrace until you could see your face in it. It's about pride and doing the best you can.

Not anymore. No pride, nobody in charge cares about succeeding.

How much has the club actually ever cost them personally ?

It's ALL on the company balance sheet underpinned by huge turnover it's probably not made one iota of difference to their own personal wealth. Nor has it ever impacted the VH groups ability to trade or be financed they'd have dropped it like a stone if any of that was an issue.

They took it on and have kept it on to play around with because they can afford to and not panic about whether it's successful or not so all this benevolent/generous benefactor stuff is horse piss. They ruined this club not long after they walked through the door and they have hamstrung it ever since.

I don't need to repeat what other posters have already eloquently put, but to add to this.

My opinion is that if it was somewhat known Venkys are now willing sellers*, there'd be a queue out the door.

A founding member of the football league, the only town team to win the Premiership, six time FA Cup winners, league cup winners. Most teams in England with that heritage would cost much more than Rovers.

 

* - appreciate that wouldn't happen.

Does this further cement Pasha's power? Waggott wasn't a good egg, but there's clearly an internal power struggle going on and he may simply be the scapegoat that allows the rest to continue business as usual.

Just speculation, but I wonder whether SW was against what has happened with Rovers WFC and this has cause a significant rift, or a straw that broke camel's back?  Maybe we'll never know.

 

Maybe he'll be on a podcast with big Sam next week telling all 😄
