He'll end up signing a one year extension with a 2 million release clause.

Which with the way things are here now is probably a good deal for both parties.

Weren't we in advanced talks with him like 3 weeks ago?

Longer than that right? I'm sure they were talking about it in April.

Constant talk of action and nothing happening - has always been the Venkys MO.

dubery and moran are typical of the modern academy player, lightweight and lacking in any robustness,i doubt duberry will fare any better at bolton than he did here,in fact he`ll probably do worse, league is more physical than the championhip,he might get more time on the ball but he won`t get any rest from nasty full backs crashing into him

Difficult to believe any Rovers' story that involves real/material investment to either secure existing key players or to sign new players of a proven quality.

Would be very pleasantly surprised if it happens but to me feels like the pitch is being rolled ahead of an almost inevitable departure.

you have to ask yourself

was the failure or unwillingness to extend key players contracts a reason eustace walked away

why wer`nt the deals for travis, tronstadt and brittain extended last season

why has dolan been in negotiations for the last 18 months

Other Championship teams have really started to get busier this week as they get into pre season.

Stoke have today added that Talarevov from Plymouth and also Mubama on loan from City to add to Sorba Thomas. Preston have signed a 6th player of the window, a defender theyve bought who did well at Blackpool last year. Birmingham have had a really busy week that looks like ending with spending over £10m on two Japanese players including Kyogo and Charlton have also brought a few in. Seems there are a few others close to being done too.

Provably because these clubs are offering money while we offer magic beans.

If I thought we were a serious football club I'd be worried.

This is our future under reduced funding.

They'll assume bigger gates than Barnsley and bigger income in league 1 but offset by a bigger more costly academy, however that will be used to supply almost the entire first team squad.

It certainly isn't a coincidence in my book that the same week Brittain was getting 'linked' to Derby and a Eustace reunion is followed a few days later by yet more talk about him being 'close' to a new contract at Rovers.

Just my usual reminder that being close, trying to, planning to, hoping to, does not deserve credit or applause. Doing, completing, getting done are the only things that really matter.

Gestede was in the Telegraph over 3 months ago claiming that we were sorting the contracts and there would be a couple of announcements soon. 3 months on and we've got Forshaw for another 12 months.

There are games being played here I think. At the Rovers end there is a recognition that whilst people are irritated/disappointed in the Batth and Weimann departures it can be brushed aside, whereas a sale or departure of the key remaining players might tip the balance against the Regime at a time they are hoping folk part with cash for tickets and merchandise.

football clubs in general don`t make any money, even the massive clubs run at a loss,it`s about winning and being succesful, you could make a profit if you desired that, but you would probably plummet through the leagues and the lower you get the less you have to spend

Offensively Cantwell at no 10 should be good but his workrate and tracking back is unlikely to be great.

I'm not convinced on this - from watching him live and looking at his stats, he works harder off the ball that most in the team.

This improved moreso when VI came in.

It's been his decisions on the ball that have been inconsistent so far, though the quality of players around him have played a part in this.

I can’t think who else is going to play there to be honest. I thought Dolan was so poor when he was trying to be in that position earlier in the season. People saying Eustace got the best out of Dolan when his only good spell of the season was under Ismael, baffles me

I think you have to commit to Cantwell and give him a free role behind the CF.

A couple of his assists last season came from the left wing, but he's not quick enough to defend from that position - he leaves his LB exposed. If he's allowed to drift out there, when the space dictates it, that's a different kettle of fish.
