You must know what a backup player is as you said “who said Batth came here as a backup player”.

Then you said Batth came as “not a backup player but a squad role” implying that they are different.

To me they are the same. So I’m asking you to clarify why they think they are different, not the original poster.

- What do you define as a backup player compared to a squad player?

- If Batth came in as a squad player do you think this means he was told he was to be an important player for the first team?

- Therefore does this apply to Forshaw if he is also a squad player?

already answered what a squad player is. I would suggested you asked that Member who said Batth came here as "back up player". 

I have said my opinion on Forshaw who is here an experience squad player, he will start few games but mainly off the bench. 

every squad player is important part of the first team and we have a few key players like the ones I mentioned previously who are very important players to our first team squad

I reckon a back up player is a squad player whose not expected to start many games.

I imagine @Tomphil2 will say a squad player and a backup player are practically the same thing. I agree. Someone who doesn’t expect to start many games unless there are injuries or people drop out of form.

good for you guys, I have said my opinion on players being squad players and what they are. never said anyone was back up player so asked that member. I will leave it thanks.

Gone are the days of 11 regular starters and two regular subs playing all season. With 5 or 6 that rarely get a look in. In fact it's remarkable looking back that you could confidantly pick the same team week in, week out.

They are all squad players now. Some are better and play more than others. The ones that play less are back ups to the ones that play more.

Our best run of form last year came with a very settled side. Even though our keeper, Hedges, Dolan and the strikers were getting a lot of flak.

Ok. So you have players that play more than others. The ones that play less are backup players.

Therefore Baath was on the bench  at the start of the season, got in due to Carter having to move to right back and then dropped to the bench again once Brittain was fit.

So he was brought in as a backup player, but injuries and then solid performances forced him to become a regular starter. Which is all we are saying.

He's a Uni student so probably 21 - it's sink or swim time for him. Might as well throw him in a professional game against men to see if he's got anything.

I was just highlighting to @RevidgeBlue that the revisionism works both ways, however if I came across as critical of Baath in particularly - it wasn’t intentional, he did well last season.

Also - to throw my tin foil hat into the ring, who was the last player we signed “late to football”, out of a university (or at least from my haze of a memory we did)
