I don't know about anyone else but I don't see losing Brittain as a big deal.

Solid, experienced Championship player, like Baath. We don't have many, and they're both gone, and unlikely to be replaced. They will be missed. At a struggling, badly managed club like ours, I don't see why anyone cannot see this is a big deal.Β

Good business for Venky's - money straight into their pockets.

Good business for Pasha, Gestede and Owen - bonuses on the way.

Good business for the team ? - Absolutely notΒ

trying to make the point of position on the pitch.Β

And I completely agree with the Baath one, hes a massive loss, we are short at CB and he was a leader. Its also a key position which is not always easy to fill. I dont look at Brittain and think leader....Β

Ok, if you want to be pedantic, I don't believe he was ever made a REALISTIC offer of a new contract back then otherwise he would undoubtedly have signed it.

Just like I don't believe he's been made an offer which reflects anything like his true worth now. Although of course now, he'll have a lot more options having been allowed to run his contract down and can afford to be a bit more choosy.

So how much would you pay for a player to run down the wing hit a brick wall more than not and get the odd great cross in and the odd goal here and there.

Enthusiasm is great but defo not the finished product otherwise he would already be at another club.so it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

We looked better under Eustace collectively because we were solid as a unit. He might of been better than the previous season, but id say its a bit far fetched to say he was brilliant. Hes not a massive loss imo. Its a fullback, most younger players can usually slip in pretty well at full back with a bit of experience around them. Look at owen beck, even montgomery looked 'ok' there, and even Duru away against burnley when we were down to 10 looked 'ok there', even costello did ok there at times. Its not the hardest position out the 11 to fill imo. Id say its one of the 'easier' positions to fill out of an 11. Im not underplaying his ability because hes leaving, its my honest opinion. Its good money for a fullback thats replaceable. Brittains an ok footballer, he wont define how our season will shape whether he stays or goes. Just my opinion.Β

Montgomery started one game there. He got sent off.

Duru played one minute and injury time.

Which even if correct puts him probably about two brackets above the calibre of player we're currently targeting.

For what it's worth I don't think he's worth that but what I do think is we should have renewed his contract 2 years ago and sold him for Β£2m if possible.

We are an inexcusably bad business model and in normal circumstances anyone behind these failures would be fired.

It's laughable.

You are funny, Dolan was kicked out/let go from Preston who deemed him not good enough for the 1st team, we picked him up gave him a chance,Β  but can you really say he has improved year on year (his hairstyle has) to be saying he should be on 15k upwards.Β

I've said many times I thought he was one of our slightly better players. I'd agree with Chaddy he'd be worth about Β£15k p.w over 3 years.

Why do people criticise Dolan for only scoring "the odd goal" (seven last season actually) but never anyone else for scoring similar or less?

Yes.

His output improved massively last year.

I mean that's fair enough if you apply the same rule to every player and stick to it and ( as fans) if you ignore Rudy's recent comments about sales not making the slightest bit of difference to the budget.

Brittain will be a loss I don’t know how anybody could think differentlyΒ

Β

Defensively not amazing but he didn’t half whip some great crosses in at times last season. Sad to see him go personally.

Maybe last ten games of note. better players have gone in the past and we continue,Β

Would you do the same now with Hyam?

I think its simply about being honest and straightforward, applies to anyone that is developing nicely and looks to have a proper career ahead of them. Hyam would need a different approach.

Lads that we are developing need to understand that it's not about being the best kept secret playing keepy uppy in the back alley by the bins, you need a club that believes in you and wants to make you into someone of note. Skill exercised in the wrong environment leads to nowt.

That's not free. We deserve to benefit as well as them.

The key as we all know is to have that conversation early whilst we still have leverage.

I'd be very serious, don't sign and we're done, go somewhere else. Good luck (seriously) but we're parting company, call your agent.

I'm guessing you agree with me, honesty and fairness (yes he must be paid well and played in enough games) but be up front and tell people where they stand and your expectations of them.

Worked for me.Β  Venkys on the other hand, clueless.

Have a feeling that the atmosphere by mid September at Ewood could quite quickly turn incredibly toxic -Β

Brittain already out the door and a foot into the next one
Travis and Tronstad likely have their bags packed readyΒ

All three unlikely to be replaced by anyone of considerable value and direct impact on the team.Β

A starting 11 likely of:Β

TothΒ
Duru Wharton Hyam De Neve
Buckley Forshaw
Kargbo Cantwell Hedges
OhashiΒ

Can't see where the results will come from - and once we start losing it's amazing how quickly the ewood tide can turn its anger to Pasha, Gestede, Venkys and IsmaelΒ

Anything between 3-5 mill would be good business I think. Hes not blessed with pace and hes not exactly the best defender. I've watched many occasions him get his pants pulled down. Id love to see duru stay fit and get a go, loads of pace, and whenever he did play he did ok, I know it wasn't many mins for us but theres a player there. Id also say there are other positions that are worse to lose.Β

It used to be that FBs were frustrated / failed CMs. Now a FB is often the best player on a team - they're asked to do SO much in the modern game.Β

Many of those links is just agent/clubtalk. Those who have signed was linked just a day/same day as signed.Β

Some agent just throws their clients name out to hope off a better deal or another club throwing in a bid. Or a sellingclub hoping for a biddingwar.Β

Many players have different agents for different areas. Some work with English club, some with other countries.Β

It was a tongue in cheek comment making fun of wanting 90% of transfer work complete prior to preseason πŸ˜‰

Adding Mannsverk as reminded by @davulsukur, now 3 out of 12 ... 25% haha

Brittain is probably the only player we have that might not have looked out of place technically in the prem, great touch and delivery. It's a disgrace he wasn't offered a contract earlier.

Difficult to comprehend the level of incompetence at board and ops level at Rovers given the size of the club and money involved.

On the ball, perhaps.

Off the ball - PL wingers would roast him.Β

As much as I hate Gestede and co I'm not sure what you're getting at with these figures.

I'm sure the figure is much lower than that 25%, in terms of players linked to signed, when you factor in that we've probably asked clubs about 100 players this summer. We're not Liverpool, Arsenal et al - our conversion rate is never going to be great.Β

Coincidentally unlike Liverpool, Arsenal et al there are thousands of players that would easily improve us. There's perhaps a few dozen for them.Β
