He's going to go so get it done ASAP imo. If its left to later in the window then the club will claim they tried to get a replacement in but couldn't get it done in time. Then they hope, once again, it becomes yesterday's news and fans don't shout about the money not being re-invested.

We're still waiting for the Wharton and Szmodics money to be re-invested! We saw a top-ish level striker as a priority in Jan and were linked with some good names, yet come the summer we're not even targeting a new striker. How does that work?!

Don't make me tap the "his replacement is already at the club" sign

3 seasons Brittain has been here - misses 15 games a season through injury, goes missing when we are up against it defensively and we are getting 3.5 million with a year left on his contract.

Normal circumstances good business, but these aren’t normal circumstances. Cheap or no replacement and weaker come the West Brom game.

And none of the Β£3.5M will be used for transfers. The (sensible model) of buying cheap and selling at top price only works if reinvested into playing squad. We never do. As fans, we shouldn't be happy if any of our first team go, regardless of price...

A 'package' of 3.5 millΒ πŸ€”

So it's about 2 million in instalments and a bunch of may or may not trigger add ons then.

Still it'll easily cover this summers real outlay.

Onto the loan market we go.....

If Brittain goes through, Baradji in on a cut price deal, then only Tronstad and Travis to offload and you have the perfect window from Pasha's point of view.

Start panicking mid October when we're rooted to the bottom with Wednesday.

I tell what end our promotion bid and it wasn't losing Eustace but losing to teams like Plymouth away, Derby away, Stoke home and away, Hull at home, Cardiff at home.Β

50% of those games came in the space of 7-days, during a very turbulent transitional period due to the departure of Eustace, and subsequent, mid-season appointment of Ismael.... We also lost at home to Portsmouth and Boro in that run of 5 defeats on the spin. You can't tell me we'd have picked up 0 points in those 5 games had Eustace stayed in charge.Β

A lot of pages have been written since the Brittain to Boro / Derby / wherever story bubbled up, and pretty much every perspective on him going or staying has been voiced on the forum. Despite this, the reality is that we will be losing a senior player, experienced at this level and capable of contributing known value to the side. And for what? No realistic chance of the transfer fee being reinvested in any meaningful way. A significant downgrade in our attacking threat. A cut-price leg up to a team usually considered a direct rival.Β

In the days of Jim Smith, Bobby Saxton, Gordon Lee the need to trade players to balance the books was accepted as part of the reality of being a third tier club, lacking the resources to blaze a trail or flash the cash. Unfortunately I don't see any of the guile, commitment, inside knowledge, passion, connections or strategic thinking from the arseholes running our club, that were the hallmark of Blackburn Rovers back in the day. All I see is a bunch of chancers running the resources down, without a plan, with no pride in what Blackburn Rovers should mean (and could still be) and with no regard whatsoever for the people without whom the club would have no meaning (yes - I mean YOU and me, friend - the fans).

It's an outrage.

Semantics…but I think Venky’s strategy is β€œThe losses* must not exceed X” & if the by product of that is relegation, then they aren’t unduly concerned.

Rudy & Suhail are more likely to be targeted on financials than league position. Their task being to minimise losses recognising that if relegation occurs, the cost base needs to be cut even more dramatically.

This explains short term contracts, no wage increases, no sizeable fees entertained, season ticket prices held (revenue is up yet sales have fallen don’t forget…).

Β

*the amount you want from us every season

Β

Yes they absolutely know the risk they are running with this model but it's either they aren't that concerned where it will eventually lead or they have no choice because the finance backers of Venkys are finally saying enough is enough.

Wishful thinking: Bali Mumba as Brittain replacement Β - that would be amazingΒ acceptable businessΒ

unfortunately won’t happen

Fixed it for you πŸ˜‰Β

Sorry, but amazing would be pushing things, He is versatile, has good potential, but would be a downgrade in the immediate short term.Β Β With the caveat being that it would only be acceptable if he was tied down to minimally a 4 year contract

Lets remember that Chief Venky Stooge Pasha hasn't just turned up, he's been lurking in the shadows for at least 10 years now, probably longer.

He's already overseen his vision once before, it began in 2015 when we sold off key assets like Tom Cairney and Rudy Gestede, followed by people like Ben Marshall, Grant Hanley and Shane Duffy. In a very similar fashion to what we are witnessing now those players were bundled out the back door or made to feel unwanted, sales were sought and Rovers trousered 90% of the cash.Β

In their place we turned to the loan and cheap markets and recruited largely dross which culminated in relegation to League One.

It was only after he'd delivered that relegation, Mowbray went off to India and agreed on a plan of action, and they started to act almost like fit and proper owners, that the decline was stopped and reversed for a few years.Β

Now the Chief Venky Stooge has seen off Mowbray, his mate Waggott, and re-established hegemony over the entire club again with his dogsbody Rudy making the phone calls and wearing the fancy suits, he is setting us back on the course we were on in 2015-17.Β

Hopefully one day someone finds out just what the real story is with this guy, where he comes from, what his qualifications are and what his remit is.Β

A commission generator for the 3rd party in the shadows is one train of thought.

Fantastic - thank you. One thing that is a bit weird about this table is Ipswich are 6th on it despite just being promoted from League One. I didn't realise they were spending so hugely. Surprised we are outspending QPR given they are a London club.

Completely agree. Only thing is if the idea is to eventually exit paying off losses as much as possible they need to get to the premier league which doesn't gel that well with this approach..

Their ownership is so baffling. Surely they must have some sort of time horizon. The longer they stick around the more more they lose.
