Stats would suggest similar levels and similar results - it’s ok if you prefer a player over another but there’s no direct correlation in rovers form or results with beck in or out of the team.

hence me saying as we have cover there it’s not a massive loss

i prefer to follow what i see on the pitch ,ribeiro is a good player but beck is better in every dept,he is injury prone but that because of the way he plays

No drop off in our performances/consistency wins/losses without beck he was covered by picks and ribeiro - the rest I agree

Yeah Beck was certainly better than those 2. He was really good, not only going forward but defensively. His main issue is injury proneness and I dont think he is fit now.

The 2 we have now are average Championship standard I would suggest. Not a position we need to look at though. Beck is top end when fit, would be very difficult to get someone as good.

I liked Beck a lot as a defender, not many did him last season.  There was one fella, can't remember who ir who he was playing for but he gave young Beck a torrid time, more than any other.  Good in your face full back, played a lot bigger physically than he actually was.  Derby will do well.

Any predictions or ITK on where Buckley and Pears are off to, and what kind of price?

Personally, anything above L1 and £750,000 each would be a success for all involved. Add ons wouldn't be a terrible idea due to nationality, "potential" and age. If JRC could go for £1m it might not be as crazy to hope for similar.

Pears is useless, but look at the career Steele has had since we cheered his departure. 30+ EPL appearances for a 26yr old GK at £500k.

All this assuming money even matters at this football club. With our 15% reinvestment since V*nkys took over.

With Dolan, Brittain, Buckley, JRC and Pears all departing, our squad all of a sudden is going to be fairly thin on 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 players. Travis, Cantwell, Pickering, Wharton, Carter, Alebiosu, Forshaw and Tyjon are the only ones in the whole squad. 8/25.

I still think we will see Cantwell leave too.  Really surprised it has been so quiet with him.

Gestede credit?

He will have known for months we wouldn't be offering contracts that our better players would sign on for

It is a week before the season starts , we have lost 4 from our strongest 11 and our 2nd top scorer and bar 1 signing(and even that signing was playing for a team nearly relegated last season)none of us know wether they will be any good in the Championship

With respect credit would come if these players turn out to be Championship standard and we don't end up in a relegation battle

I replied to a poster who commented on how quick our business has been, compared to other windows. In that respect you have to give Gestede credit...I'm not saying he's the next messiah.

Also let's be brutally honest here, it's not his job to decide on who gets to stay and go, that is in fact the rat he reports to.

Think he goes next summer.

Won't be many takers for him right now.

Rudy and co praying he has a decent season so they can get him off the books next summer.

Partly maybe but also with explosive pace it’s difficult to keep that up, my main worry with him is his hamstrings exploding at any moment

Hopefully the new S&C fella has better luck keeping him healthy, perhaps that is why VI fetched him here, after recognizing himself that the soft tissue injuries were too frequent.

Brittain was obviously very good for this level anyone being honest would say that, also proven by rivals wanting and one ultimately getting him.

All teams will have swill of players course your right on that, I would just echo the perceptions of a few other posters this morning suggesting it’s nice to see a more proactive approach that’s not relying on loans. Of course, as a few point out, a lower budget = more gambling but if you go back to the premier league days, some of our best signings came for cheap, especially during the trust and John Williams time.

The levels we got from getting multiple international captains, like Nelsen, Ooijer, Mokoena et al for the prices we did. Obviously this is a complete different kettle of fish but I just prefer punts like this than loans or 30+ year olds on short contracts.

It obviously depends on how good they are but signing players permanently is undoubtedly preferable so I would agree on that. You also open the door to selling them at considerable profit in the future and then continuing the process. Thats where we fall down here.

I also have said in the past that we had under utilised the foreign markets. For a club like us that are unwilling to spend much money, its makes sense to look further afield. You look at the fees we are paying, they wouldnt even afford the players that Charlton are buying who have adopted a policy of signing many of the stand out players in League 1. So you have to look in places where other people arent looking, as everyone will know domestic players. More risk of signing total duds, but also more potential reward in signing players of which an equivalent domestically would be well out of budget. Those League 1 players are not guaranteed to step up themselves.

The key thing though is that we have to accompany these type of players with a core of proven Championship quality players. We have a few of these already in Hyam, Travis and Tronstad in particular and we have to pay the going rate to keep them to give us the foundation of a team where we can then add these potential assets around.

I am afraid we will be in the relegation mix and a battle might be the most we can hope for.

So bas Brittain left the building or is the Boro price and link just paper talk at this point?

He brown nosed his way into head of whatever he is with no experience behind him and gota job he isn't qualified for

Plus as per the podcasts he was in  he is behind the owners "vision" for the club and us peasants should be greatful for it.

If I was head of football or whatever he is I'm sure I could bring in signings that we don't appear to have had any competition for

We haven't signed any attacking players like, I'm not counting De Neve as he seems to have been played in a more defensive position at his previous Clun

Again, the original response was based on bringing in Miller, Baradji and Henriksson.

If they all come in before the next home game then you have to give Gestede (abit of credit) that's it. I'm not relating it to anything else he's done/said.

Starting to be really irritated by derby. They've got our best fullback from last season and our best centreback.  Eustace is really fucking us over

Not the debate the fact he’s labelled a massive loss I disagree

when beck started last year we won 8 and lost 8

when beck was out of the team we won 8 lost 8

beck is better and likely to have a better career but we have enough to cover the void as shown above

Does that credit extend if those 3 are simply straight replacements for Brittain, Travis and Tronstad?

I wouldn't give too much credit for bringing in inferior players. Obviously if they did turn out to be better, credit would be due.

I sort of agree that we seem to appear to know certain players are leaving and we're getting warm bodies in to replace them first. That wouldn't have happened under Waggott imo but it doesn't count for that much if the players coming in are a lot worse.

This would be when Livingston and Dobson arrived from Coventry for £750,000.

I remember going to Watford away that season in midweek. It was my Birthday. Livingston scored 2. We won 3-1 I think .🤔

I’d say his goals certainly helped us stay up, along with Dobson at the back. I also remember Frank Stapleton hat trick at Wolves that season too.

He was never prolific though - his best spell was with Rovers where I think he had a dozen goals in 30+ games.  Think he spent over 10 years at Grimsby where he was a 1 in 5 or 6 man.

Strange that we still haven't announced Miller or Boro with Brittain?

Hackney turned down Ipswich so Boro might not have them money for the transfer any more.
