JHRover Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago They missed 12:25pm - round of applause as our former manager, assistant managers, captain, and six(?) other players take to the field for the opposition having been forced out of Rovers over the last few years due to mismanagement/contract negligence. 2 Quote

Backroom Tom Posted 19 hours ago Backroom Posted 19 hours ago It’s a ludicrously pathetic attempt isn’t it? 3 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago If it’s only a piddling 40 minutes why not play it pre the Derby game? Quote
... Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Whole thing just reeks of unorganised chaos. As Rory said on 4000 holes pod, after Rovers game, if we win I wanna head out n go for a pint and a chat if we lose I wanna head out n go for a pint n a chat, I don't want to have to sit there for another 2 hours after potentially getting beaten. I mean I want to stay, I want to stay and celebrate but. I wanna watch the game and head out. Just utter madness 2 Quote
MarkBRFC Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Literally nothing that could make me stay at ewood for the rest of the day after an an embarrassing anniversary defeat to our ex manager, staff and players. If the legends game is only a 40 minute match then get it kicked off at 10am and get folk in early for some food or a pint etc. 2 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago The obvious solution, but of course this lot not never take that option. Quote

Is this a freebie invite or the one you have to fork out £230 for? If i do get my invite (🙀🤣🤣🤣) it will be returned with a wee message of rejection. Quote
Parsonblue Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago For our 100th Anniversary we played a League game v Bolton. For our 125th Anniversary we played a League game v Wolves. For our 150th Anniversary we have a League game v Derby County + the Old Etonians game. Not sure why the uproar about this game when the previous two anniversary games took place without comment at the time. 1 Quote

FWIW my take is that by tacking on a “celebratory match” of this dubious quality is symptomatic of the typically half-arsed efforts of the current regime who seem to know the price of everything & the value of nothing. The constant tinkering of the home kit to make it look more like a Grasshoppers or Feyenoord variant, the removal of the historic timeline outside Ewood, the shockingly bad 150th merchandise…the overwhelming sense is that nobody in charge cares enough. A match to celebrate the 150th…against a team that actually beat us in an FA Cup final…it just feels…shoddy. 3 1 Quote
Parsonblue Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The LEAGUE match is the Anniversary game, just as the the 100th and 125th Anniversaries were League games. The Old Etonians seems to be an added extra. There is a book, just as there was for the 100th and 125th. Sorry, I just don't get the outrage over this particular point. Quote

That's an odd post from you Parsons to say the least.🤔 The whole organization of this event smacks of cheap, shoddy desperation....the vast majority of fans expected better tbh. Everyone to their own I suppose. Edited 5 hours ago by SIMON GARNERS 194 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Parson has made it clear that he has fundamentally no issue with how the club is being run. Quote

chaddyrovers Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Genuine question, what do people actually want as the 150th anniversary? Quote

Throughout this thread several posts have highlighted what was suggested by e.g. WATR. My view (again FWIW) is that (as @Parsonblue) highlighted - marking the league game closest to the anniversary is fine. Personally I think tacking on the extra match (especially in this form) is no more than paying lip-service to the idea of a celebration…it’s half-arsed. A pre-season friendly against say Athletic Bilbao would have been a great way to kick off (!) the celebratory season. The book in principle sounds great…but like many on here I fear for the quality/content & independence of the editorial. A special shirt again - sounds great, but I’ll keep my powder dry until I’ve actually seen it. In summary Chaddy - it’s less about the “what” but more about the “how” the club does things these days… 3 Quote

Everyone to their own I suppose. Did you expect more than a League game against Bolton for the 100th Anniversary? We've done exactly the same for this Anniversary as the 100th and 125th. All I'm saying is what is the difference in terms of an Anniversary match. They have all been regular League games played on or as close to 5th November as possible. Quote
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Personally chaddy I would have wanted the Game to have been played seperate.Top UK or Foreign oppostion to garner interest and see a very healthy crowd on the day. A celebration of the Club as an open day,a fair,Museum of Historical items,Special programme, guided tours of Ewood etc. MAKE AN EFFORT. And all this to have been advertised in the LT for weeks pre event....OH DEAR!😲 😲 Edited 4 hours ago by SIMON GARNERS 194 2 Quote
Mattyblue Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Bolton, Wolves, Derby all traditional old clubs like ourselves. The league game is therefore enough just like it was for the 100th and 125th, plus play in a one off kit, job done. If you are going to have an additional game you surely don’t just have a 40 minute kick about between amateurs and a bunch of 50/60 year olds an hour after the game - either do it properly or don’t bother. I've watched a few games both home and away on TV this season. This includes the highlights packages offered by Sky and ITV. At no point in any of those broadcasts have I seen any reference to this being out 150th anniversary season. You wouldn't know about it. They've done nothing to update or alter the club badge for the occasion, nothing to introduce a commemorative home shirt (quite the opposite it is one of the least unique and recognisable home shirts in club history, including the halves being wrong), they've got a random away shirt that we've worn a couple of times with town 'landmarks' on it but I'm struggling to understand the relevance of that to our 150th anniversary. As far as I can see (from a distance) there's nothing at Ewood to commemorate this occasion. You might expect boards around the ground, flashing advertisements, flags. Nothing. The pitiful banner on the BBE effort seems to have been abandoned after one game and not seen since. What would I want / expect to see for our 150th? 1) A new or temporary club crest for the season - perhaps in gold or altered to make reference to the occasion - so that anyone who sees it recognises it is different and special 2) Programmes (digital and paper) being reintroduced even just for the season and each edition being comprehensive and accurate about significant occasions and people from our long history - plenty of material to go at 3) A proper anniversary shirt worn for the whole season that would be immediately recognisable as different and unique and be worn by players and fans all season long (not a sticker on the back of the neck that nobody can see from any distance). Not worn on one day only (why limit such an occasion to one afternoon?). 4) A proper range of merchandise to celebrate the occasion - not a few t-shirts of dismal quality 5) A new timeline being introduced with it being permanently installed around the ground or an exhibition open in the Darwen End lounge each home game with food and drink available 6) A fixture against opposition of some relevance or stature in the game. Perhaps Athletic Bilbao or similar. Yes someone who costs money and effort to bring here and organise - good things cost money you see. 7) A club documentary - released on Youtube and media channels - make it a feature length film presented by a 'legend' or two chronicling it all the way from start to present (preferably ignoring the last 15 years of hell). 6 Quote

Something that would stand in time for future generations. Perhaps a couple of statue unveiling. A home kit worthy of 150 years and not just a one off game (yet to see if it's match worn) A spruce up of the exterior. Perhaps some blue and white gates. Gable end celebratory paintings. The timeline returned. A Ltd edition program. Reduced prices/season tickets. They could of capitalised on the occasion by doing more of these more 'gestural' things rather than fk all. Oh and a bigger Tifo flag that one is tiny. There. Said it 1 Quote
roversfan99 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago To be fair, the league game is a perfect anniversary game without the amateurish add on. Playing a team with a manager, captain and a few other players who left us directly or indirectly because of how shoddily we are run sums up our 150th anniversary very nicely. I presume the owners will all be turning up to mark the event? Quote
