Trinidad Rover Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Now three managers that clearly don't rate him or think he's got the potential. Bizarre move. Good luck to him Quote

Bizarre move. Good luck to him I suppose the hope is that like Wharton & Carter, who were both still getting loans out at his age, a few lower league loans gets him ready eventually. Although personally see him falling behind both Atcheson & Litherland this year (2 players who the club would have been aware of when they signed O'Riordan as it was only a year and a half ago) Edited 11 hours ago by KentExile Quote
davulsukur Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago This move must have been on the cards for a while? He got less than a week of Pre-season in. He's gotta go there and do well. 1 Quote
Forever Blue Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago It’s a good loan for O’Riordan - League 1 and will be playing against better players week-in-week-out. As Kent says, Carter and Wharton both did really well out on loan and it aided their progression immensely. Quote

It's signings like this we actually should be making - young, talented players from L1 and L2. Ones that have a few games under their belts and stand out at that level, but aren't quite yet of interest to Premier League teams. The £40m or so from Wharton, Szmodics, Raya et al has been completely spaffed on running costs now, so our owners don't have to put their hands in their pockets, but realistically half of that should have been spent on the best young players from Crewe, Charlton, Reading etc. If you want to run a model where you develop players and sell them on, you have to actually invest in the players first. The Academy will bring some through - but as we're seeing the most promising ones get pinched before they can sign professional contracts. I've no idea what to make of O'Riordan - I've barely seen him play. I hope this loan works for him. It seems he played well when he went back to Crewe, so there's still a player in there somewhere, but he quickly needs to push on as he's 21 now. Quote
arbitro Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago O'Riordan showed some good form in the latter part of the season for Crewe and chipped in with a few goals. The odd thing about the loan to Doncaster is that Ismael hasn't seen him play in any game for Rovers so what is the thinking behind loaning him out less than a week into pre season. If it's paving the way for a new arrival then surely it would make sense to let him go once another player has actually signed. Still at least our Head of Loan Players will have something to do. Strange. 1 Quote

Strange. Sense and Rovers in the same article ? That’s not something you see very often. 2 Quote
