aletheia Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Wharton mom. Mori, Yuki, Cantwell all good control, intelligent, showed with the goal. Ryan works well for the team, should have been sent off. Gud looks promising. Game management v.good. After first 10, Watford were dire. We have enough to do ok. 1 Quote

I like what he does a lot personally (unlike many on here) - like the podcast etc - but surely crack is involved somewhere in that assessment? Anyone got Tavares down as having a good game? Same score as Trondstad. Jackson’s on crack. Quote
metalrover Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Delighted with the 3 points, expected us to screw this one up, Watford away was always tough. Surprisingly they hardly threaten today. Positives : Wharton & Carter defensive partnership off to a good start. Wharton my motm. Morishita's winner on his debut, should had scored two after that screamer hit bar. Alebiosu looked good, adapting well to the Championship. Trondstad solid in the holding midfield, Mr reliable in midfield. Negatives : Ohashi looked too weak to lead the frontline, can't hold up the ball, and not quick enough. Matter of time Gudjohnson will be main centre forward. Tavares, one good pass from him, the rest was awful. Looked a long way from Championship standard. Subs : Gudjohnson looked promising Quote

Glad to hear Wharton apparently played well, I've always had him down as our best CB when fit. Keeping him and Carter fit and Gudjonssen being half decent will be crucial to our season Id say. 3 Quote

Tugayisgod Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago That was a huge 3 points ahead of what looks like a really difficult game next week against Ipswich. They brought off the bench Sami, Jack Clarke, the lad they got from Norwich for £10m and the Norwegian lad they paid £17.5m for. Even in the championship it's becoming a 2 tiered league, we can't compete with the likes of these , Birmingham and Wrexham , as sad as that is 1 Quote
roverblue Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Great 3 points and great performance. Don’t think we have played badly in any game I’ve seen us in yet and with more luck have more points in the bag. Early days but you can see which of the new signings look the part and which don’t. Promising signs from Gudjohnsen in his cameo. 3 Quote

Neal Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Going to keep it short... Wharton was absolutely UNBELIEVABLE. Cantwell class. Carter also class. I'm going to say it.... Ryan Alebiosu is better player than Brittain. Quicker, stronger, better defender and a better crosser aswell. What a player. 6 Quote
roversfan99 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Excellent result and away performance. Arguably more pleasing than Hull in a way as there was no jeopardy at 3 up against a side ravaged with illness. We managed today really professionally and comfortably. Wharton was man of the match, absolutely brilliant. Both him and Carter did very well considering their lack of fitness. Tronstad was also excellent until he went off, getting back to his best. Alebiosu again was very good too down the right. Morishita certainly had an impact on his debut and looks a talent. Not convinced he is a wide player though, there are a number in the squad who I think would be better suited to a back 3, but selling Hyam with no replacement (and pretending it was the plan all along) robs us of that as a serious regular option. Gudjohnsen showed some really nice signs off the bench. Obviously until we see what hes like in terms of when we need a goal, then the jury is out, but he did well today and I liked the look of him. Kargbo as he often does didnt offer that same intelligent play. Miller did well coming on in a back 3 and that position suited him. Tavares was poor again and with the Tronstad potential injury and bizarre Baradji situation that position is a concern. Quote
USABlue Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Big surprise good win. Wharton was inmense. Gudjohnson looks pretty lively. Did not expect much tiday si well done. Quote

Regarding Morishita - it’s nice to see someone who can shoot with either foot out there. 2 Quote
Eternal Optimist Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Fantastic win never doubted it! Should go into every game as a fan thinking we can get something from it Some players are going to take time to settle and adapt. Nearly all have come from leagues of a poorer standard than the Championship! I think the criticism from some on here is unjustified. Give them time, judge when we are maybe 1/4 of the way into the season. Sidnei is not Travis (thank god) completely different players. People complained we had two sitting defensive midfielders in Tronstad and Travis so we’ve changed it. Sidnei at least looks like he wants to make a decent pass even if it doesn’t always come off, just needs time. 1 Quote
Exiled in Toronto Mk2 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’ll take that back 5 over last season’s every time. Toth - huge upgrade on Calamity Alebiosu - Love child of Nyambe and Brittain Carter - great to see him back. Helped by not once getting dragged out of position to cover an AWOL RB Wharton - best I’ve can remember from him. Easily MoM. Ribeiro - better than Picks Tavares - I’m not as down on him as most: missed pre-season, new country, living out of a suitcase. I’m in the JDT camp on Travis. Sonny - more solid than Trav Morishita - good debut. Cool finish and his crossbar rattler reminded me of Simon Garner. Cantwell - really is like a new signing. Hedges - LWB might be his best option Yuki - gonna have to up his game. His assist was assisted by a deflection but good idea to try it. Gudjonnsan - best opening cameo from a forward I can recall. Him and Cantwell could be a top pairing. 4 Quote

Torgeir Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Wow Wharton, what a comeback! I take my hat off, I discounted him a long time ago. Big respect for getting into the thick of it, that’s a big hurdle. Hope he stays fit. Hedges deserves praise too. Hope Tronstad is back soon, he’s our engine in the middle of the park. Great game by all players, lowest score I hand out today are 7s (Tavares). 1 Quote

And conversely from the looks of it Tavares seems more of a deeper player. So not really sure what you're saying here? Quote

Would love them to drop straight back down Spending lots of money absolutely does not equate to success. We've seen time and time again; you can't just throw a load of expensive signings together and expect them to gel/work. Look at the side Kenny built. Alongside the likes of Flowers, Shearer and Sutton we had the likes of Gale, Wilcox, Slater, Hendry and Sherwood (all either free, or small value signings). Wrexham and Birmingham will both finish in the bottom half of the table this season for this very reason. 2 Quote
