It probably doesn't matter if they do or don't cover the pitch, if the water cannot drain away. I believe in the past the postponements have been caused by the water backing up due to its inability to drain into the river.

We had a game called off last season ( or season before) for this exact reason...Was it Portsmouth?

True.

And I'm guessing nothing has changed, and looking at the forecast for the day that will no doubt be a problem today?

I think we might just get away with it because it was a nice day yesterday. I've just been out in it and whilst it's persistent, it's not exactly hammering it down with torrential rain. It would be rather embarrassing if we couldn't cope with this unless it gets a lot worse out there.

The forecast is that it is quite moderate for most of the day, but then starts hammering it down during the game. I agree the game should probably go ahead as there wont be enough time for it to build up.

Anyone know of its reliable to get the number 1 bus up from Darwen to Ewood around 2.30 for the game? Wife has the car today... I guess could be risky with crowds/traffic?

(Also how can the train line be so close to ewood but the two nearest stops are an hour walk in one direction and 40 mins in the other??)

I think it's only a problem when the water level of the river is too high

Surely it won't be at the moment

It was raining all afternoon, during the Norwich game, and we gave a poor performance. Let's hope there's no repeats today.

Whilst the Watford win provides a little bit more hope for the season, had a touch of the 'Hull feel' to it - think both Hull and Watford in for long hard seasons with more managerial changes to come.

Sadly for Rovers, think Ipswich are about to really hit their straps after their impressive demolition of SU and can't see beyond an Ipswich win.  Think my decent punt on Ipswich at 21/20 will provide some consolation come tonight.

I’ll be setting off shortly. Let’s hope the pitch holds up. That’s a bit of a worry about Carter. I can’t see it being anything other than a fitness issue, you wouldn’t drop him to play Miller under normal circumstances.

Yeah although I don't know for certain the reason, I hope it's not a full blown injury and they're just handling him carefully, but it's a full week since he played and after a clean sheet last time round to me it would be odd to change it unless absolutely necessary.....could be that Miller has been on fire in training and VI thinks he warrants a start I guess.

Elliott Jackson mentioned in his article this morning about managing the minutes of Carter and Wharton

I suppose it makes sense given their records. That said if they are on reduced availability even when fit surely we need another centre back?

Also if Wharton is starting I guess that means we are benching McCloughlin who has - his sending off aside - been very good. Puts us in the weird position of starting Miller ahead of two proven centrebacks even though they are available. Hope Miller shows us his quality.
