He (badly) clarified that he means Taveres needs to learn and develop more and not put pressure on him. He could very well be lined up to replace Tronstad in the summer. He’ll never be able to play the Tronstad role. He’s not diligent enough. 4 Quote

Massive trouble next season whatever league we are in thats the plan. Would rather see James Edmondson promoted if we're not going to replace him properly. 2 Quote

Popular Post roversfan99 Posted December 12 Popular Post Posted December 12 The best role for him would be at a different football club in a much lower league. 11 Quote

Not sure that the right role for him but I dont what role is the right one for him. He’s not got the qualities you need to play that role. First and foremost, you have to play in a disciplined fashion. You need to be able to spot danger before it happens, intercept play, tackle, move the ball on quickly, and don’t get drawn out of position when you have possession. Lots of opponents will let you carry the ball forward when you’re playing in that position, they’re hoping to catch you downfield when they win the ball. None of this fits the bill with Taveres as far as I can see. I see Taveres as a Cantwell wanna be. Quote

I don't see him as defensive midfielder either Quote

joey_big_nose Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Tavares seems to me to want to be the sort of player Nzonzi was. Technically good, deeper midfielder, who picks the ball off the defence and picks passes. But as others have said that really relies on being very aware of where players are around you, have really good ball control on the turn to find space, find the right pass and off the ball be physically competitive, and close down the danger. On all those he isn't anywhere near it. What I find absolutely unacceptable about him (as does Ismael obviously in leaving him out of squads) is he doesn't seem to even try and do the basics well (i.e. cover ground, be aware, get a tackle in). I have seen a tiny improvement from him in the last couple of games.... but the issue is even when he tries a bit he is so far behind play. It would be a really remarkable thing if he can get up to speed. Quote

He's the last of the famous 5 (Tronstad, Travis, Hyam, Brittain & Dolan) that we really needed to keep hold of and build a team around this summer. Plan seems to be working well so far............ 1 Quote

He’s nowhere near that level at the moment. Quote

davulsukur Posted December 12 Posted December 12 (edited) So like, Pape can't hit an open goal from 18 yards out. Not surprised. I'm sure Cantwell actually says "I'll give you £100, if he gets this" to the Skysports presenter, which suggests he doesn't rate Pape much either. Oh, and Pears dropped the ball 🤦♂️ Edited December 12 by davulsukur 2 Quote

NeilInBristol Posted December 13 Posted December 13 Reading a set of quotes from VI where he refers to “helping to develop” taveres there is no other point to us buying these types of players other than to sell them on for a small profit to continue to fund the club to sustain itself there will be little transfer activity unless we sell players first Quote
