I think Curbs would love the chance because i think its a step up, but not too much of a risky one. This way he is increasing his profile with a slightly bigger club and also setting himself up for a future big move. Say in 4 or 5 years time.

We have good finances, a good squad, a decent size ground and a cracking academy. All together with the best supporters in the league ha ha

Unfortunately, Hughesey, Charlton have all that and a much bigger fanbase. They have had 70,000+ crowds within my lifetime.

With the Valley going up to 35,000 capacity soon and space for more, Charlton are one of the very few clubs with the potential to break into the Champions League.

However, we do not know what is going on behind the scenes at the Valley and if Rovers were to offer Souness's reported £2m salary, Curbishley would double what he is earning now.

That's convinced me Strachan is the one. For a start, he'll want to come to Blackburn to be re-united with his ear and secondly a quote from the above link, if I've translated correctly, shows us what kind of a leader he is.

Kravet om endringer i ledelsen har svirret en stund allerede, men tok for alvor av igjen i forrige måned, da Strachan innrømmet at han kunne tenke seg jobben. På sikt.

"Craving the end of a little half-squirrel which was already stunned, some men took four hammers of iron but the porridge man named Strachan rode in and did the job with his hands. His dad threw up."

I think Curbishley would rather stay put. He's building things slowly at the Valley and they have the potential to break the top 6 up consistently. We're still a signing or two of Duff's calibre away from that and it'll cost a fair amount of cash we don't have.

I guess that does raise the question of a transfer budget for the new man? He'll want to make signings in January and it'll have to be a workable budget if we want a decent manager. I guess that will be another barometer of the boards ambition. Any prospective candidate will want funds for the transfer window, hopefully without selling any *good* players on.

In the running (each has been popular today with the layers and relative betting exchanges):

Mark Hughes

Dick Advocat

Glen Hoddle

Paul Jewel

I believe Mark Hughes is the first choice but will say NO.

Others SERIOUSLY in the running? (who want the job)

Dick Advocat

Glen Hoddle

Paul Jewell

In my opnion Glen Hoddle would not be a popular appointment and Paul Jewell is not in a bad position already. Leaving Dick Advocat.

Wrong I could well be young Jedi's!

Although inexperienced at club level as a manager, there's something fresh,

positive and encouraging about Mark Hughes approach to the game, his possible appointment at the club would personally fill me with confidence for the future.

he cant even beat Azabijan

And Sven's useless???

Yeah... I mean, beating the Germans AND the Italians was just luck... Hughes hasnt got the prowess to beat Azerbaijan. Damn these bookies for their ilogical thinking...

Remember, the more names on the list to bet against, the more money the betting companies make. So if Skybet think putting Curbishley on the list is remotely credible, then people will bet for him.

I know this should be a period of high anxiety but I am feeling pretty relaxed. As always, the more I see of John Williams in action for the Rovers, the more impressed I am.

I think we are in safe hands.

Totally agree. JW is a class act.

BTW...from that article

"I've set myself a target of two to three weeks to make an appointment but we are not going to rush into anything and get it wrong.

I dont think i can stand another 2 or 3 weeks of this.

Of the realistic targets, I think that Hughes would be the best choice. Had Hughes been at the club longer he may have become a Blackburn legend - just remember his fire and brimstone performance in the Worthington. Fantastic. If he can inspire other players to that level of performance than he is the right choice. I also consider that like Souness he will have the capacity to attract players to BRFC which might not otherwise come to the club.

Unfortuantely, as I have previously stated, I do not believe that a welshman will abandon Wales during their current qualification programn. This would leave the possibility of Hughes managing Wales and BRFC at the same time. Is this possible and would we want it anyway??
