  1. Been interesting listening to Mowbray so far. Acknowledged his loyalty to current players may be a bit of a weakness. Wanted to give the the promoted side a go but admitted they are starting to 'feel the quality' of this league. Mentioned again, that players will be replaced and quality added. Talked about Brereton. His signing. On the back of him playing against his side a couple of years ago and having a stormer. Also said he's not blind and acknowledged he's been poor, weak on the ball etc. Asked to give him time as he genuinely believes he will come good ... Talked about wanting to sign 3 or 4 players to go straight in to the first team. Also interesting that he mentioned the lack of leaders on the pitch. Mentioned scouting Germany, and other European teams but kept coming back to Bundesliga...sounded like we were looking at the best players from Bundesliga 2. Also said summer window and maybe, if needed, Jan window to make us top 6 competitive....but hopefully it would be done in summer. Talked hypothetically about selling Dack and investing in 4 or 5 players as this is what they did at WBA. Didn't say that would definitely happen and hoped the owners would support. Mentioned nobody meeting their standards with budget available in Jan so didn't buy for sake of it. Hopes that by not wasting money if he 'asks for £10mil for a player', owners will trust him and say yes. Q&A after interval.

  3. I'm sure if ST's were on sale last season during a promotion push we would have sold more. Once the season finishes the momentum is lost.

  4. Presumably because the stadium manager and/or Waggott would prefer 7500 Preston fans less tanked up at 12pm than 3pm. Easier to manage. Feck the home fans. Though we used to have 20 years of full Darwen Ends a few times a season with no problem. Sums up the small time operation down there theee days.

  5. Should have left it at 3 but there you go.

  6. Guy asked why we play converted midfielders as CB. When would we sign some proper centre halves. TM basically said watch this space. He talked about not having any big blood and thunder centre backs and they were looking at that. He likes Lennihan, admits that Mulgrew and Rodwell aren't great backs to the wall defenders but bring other attributes. Sounds like he will play Mulgrew against teams that sit back. Another big lad for the more direct teams. -ideally. Also indicated he thinks we are a bit weak mentally. Keeps saying that he will have to make some tough decisions about this core group. Admits they won't get us up as it stands. Better players will arrive in summer. Targeting 25-28 year olds 'men' to go straight in. Definitely looking at a forward. Big, physical and fast (and they are all expensive) As expected - very honest guy. Also mentioned that Brereton will get some games with the 23s when the time is right. Aware of lack of confidence.

  7. Many people have annual salary reviews effective from 1 April and, if they are lucky, extra disposable income. That's when season tickets should be on sale. Also the football season is still underway. If you leave it until June/July, people are saving their disposable income for summer holidays. Also the season is over and a lot of people have switched off football. I've come to the conclusion that Rovers will never be a major force under Venkys, with or without Mowbray, despite their wealth, because they are clueless about running a football club.

  9. Oh yeah. He also waxed lyrical about Mrs Mowbray's lemon drizzle cake. So to sum up. Wanted to give last year's group this season. Admits that teams have 'found us out a little' and some players are 'feeling the quality' of the league. - to be fair also mentioned the quality of the coaches as well. The changes squad wise should come in summer. Judge the team in another year. Feels he can build a team to get us up. He said he can see where we are weak and is looking to improve all areas of the pitch. *Interesting that he admitted scrapping his tactics after the Oldham game last year as it wasn't working and moving to high intensity running game.

  10. As a ST holder who stuck by the club right through the darkest days of Kean and double relegation I feel that Waggott simply kicks the most loyal fans in the teeth. Keeps raising prices every year, tells everyone they aren’t committed enough and de facto caps the attendance keeping the atmosphere grim. Think outside the box! Bloody innovative stadium, my harris.

  14. It’s similar with kits. For example, we could’ve had the new shirt on sale at the Oxford game, 26,000 Rovers fans in party mode, they’d have sold a shed load. Especially to kids. But unlike nearly every club who have them available from April/May, we usually get round to putting them on sale July/August.

  15. Deceptively quick, aggressive and strong in the tackle. Has good anticipation, gets forward well and has an absolute hammer of a left foot. Capped at all levels apart from senior for France - on loan at Paris FC in ligue 2 from Nice this season. Would cost about 1 million and better than either of the imposters who currently 'play' there for us.

  16. They miss a trick with late season ticket sales, £200 per adult season tkt on a 12 month DD would see far more sold in my opinion... Under 8s Free with a paying adult Under 18s £75 with a paying adult 18-21 £125 Not exact figures but the club need to be more imaginative... We are a Mid table division 2 team in a very poor small town with a large percentage who don't see football as their main sport.

  17. I don't think he has hit the heights of last season in terms of all round play. Possibly better opposition but his goals /assists are still impressive. Hand on heart though, I'm not convinced he's Prem quality - certainly not a top half side. £20 mil would be a no-brainer.

  18. Yep think it was around that time he let one through his hands v Wolves I think or possibly Sunderland but the nerves and tension around the place then were unreal. It must be a doddle at Rovers these days compared to then and what was asked and expected of them.

  20. Would be a shame that but I wouldn’t blame you. Dont expect any ‘deals’ though! (Well not in the sense of a normal person deal - maybe a Waggott Special: “£27 each or three for £81*”) * Plus £2 per ticket surcharge (£3 after 12pm on day before game).

  21. Pretty sure the club have always blamed the police... caught in a lie? Not on TV but let’s move it from 3pm anyway just to piss people off. Grassroots schedules become a huge headache for all concerned, for instance.

  22. Can't for the life in me understand why Rovers would request this kick off time. The pne police twitter account has confirmed that it is Rovers who have asked for early kick off.

  25. Didn’t we lose 6 in 1992? Promotion season, going from top to outside the play off places. Speedie hat trick at Plymouth ensured we finished 6th... the rest is history!

  28. We don't play the long effectively. There is never anyone around to pick up the second ball as the midfield are too deep.

  29. The Bolton situation just sums up what a shambles the rules of the League are. Bolton have been on thin ice for years, winding up orders galore, close to administration, yet are allowed to carry on doing it and face no sanction from the league, whilst well run clubs like Rotherham and Burton punch above their weight with limited yet well managed finances. Bolton managed to escape at the last minute last season and in doing so consign Burton to League One, probably never to return, and give Bolton access to Championship income for another year. They could still do the same this season and climb above Rotherham. Bolton spending money and paying out what they clearly don't have. Meanwhile Birmingham are being pursued for breaking FFP rules and supposedly gaining an advantage over rivals in doing so. Great. Punish them. But how can Bolton not be guilty of similar? Then you've Blackpool where a convicted rapist who was found in court to have stripped the club of millions of pounds is ok to own it whilst Belokon who has a guilty verdict from a Court in Kazakhstan cannot.

  30. Good point and really, the earlier the better seems to make complete logical sense with no downside

  31. I meant the first. If you get a cheap enough season ticket, you are always likely to rock up for a game. I have an Ireland season ticket. A lot of what I have watched over the last 2 years has been really quite awful, but because I have the ticket, I will go 99% of the time for fear of my money being wasted.

  32. On that one the club will merely say that they can only get them on sale when they take delivery of the stock, so they are in Umbro's hands on that and can't be blamed for it. I'd argue that if our deal with Umbro is such that we miss out on the key summer holiday season and can't start selling new shirts until August then it's probably time we terminated our deal with them and went elsewhere.

  33. If being on sale longer doesn't change anything then how come so many other clubs have already got theirs on sale in February? What do they know that we don't? It seems logical to me - the longer something is on sale for the more people are likely to buy it. I'm not really referring to longstanding season ticket holders who can be relied upon to buy no matter what, I'm referring to drifting people who make their minds up depending on performances, form, price, money left over in the bank etc. Those are the people we should be going out of our way to try and entice and I think it is worth doing something different to try and capture them. Sadly thinking outside the box is something we don't get much of at groundhog day Ewood. No imaginative pricing, always late with putting tickets on sale, put prices up then question why ambitious targets aren't reached. I don't really blame Waggott as it is my belief that he needs to get prices signed off from India before they can go out and that won't happen until the annual review. If you restrict your sales period to June and July before the season begins (during which we have no games, people don't come to Ewood and spend their cash going on holiday etc) then in doing so you restrict the scope for selling substantially more.

  34. Just what the doctor ordered. Playing away at a ground where we rarely get anything, in poor form with an acute shortage of centre backs. Using the twisted logic we football fans sometimes apply I'm going for a comfortable away win.

  35. No sorry don’t agree. You watch Pep after every game, he goes to every player on the pitch on both sides to either congratulate or thank. The man is class personified. He knows all about the FA Cup and I think genuinely wanted to leave an impression with the Newport staff. IMO he is the best manager around but doesn’t think he is unlike a certain “special one.” Oh and there nothing patronising about having his photo took with kids. And before blueboy makes a sarcastic comment comment about my last line, just don’t ok?

  36. If we play the counter attacking game we are capable of playing some good stuff on the break and scoring goals but we tend to start with two defensive mids and sit too deep passing it across the back 4 and forcing ourselves to whack it long more often than good counters because of the cronic lack of wingers and pace. It has worked well a few times but as stated we get a goal then retreat and get punished. When we play a bit more expansive and a bit further up with maybe only one DM then we look decent taking it too the opposition but often end up in a we score two you score three open type game. Defence just isn't good enough to cope with that against a lot of teams who have a decent goal scorer or two. Trick is finding the right balance not wholesale changes in tactics and personnel every week to try and negate often modest opposition. To do any of those you need a solid base of a defence and that's something he really needs to man up and address in summer otherwise it'll be rinse and repeat.

  38. Long ball or short ball game is irrelevant. There's only winning football or losing football, and at the moment we're losing - badly. I don't understand why fans obsess over us having a good passing game when it leads only to defeat. Pragmatists such as Sam Allardyce and Tony Pulis understand it.

  39. On the back of the successful BRFCS poll where only just over 4% want TM to go , they could reduce the season ticket prices to your suggested value and use the advertising strapline "The only Mowtivation you need"

  42. Exactly what Huddersfield did - brought in Wagner, knocked tickets down to £150 and marketed it as the 'Wagner revolution'. Targets for sales, progress shared with fans, encouragement to try and reach milestones, exciting signings to go with it. All about timing. Sitting around doing nothing until May and then hiking prices up another 17% and shutting another stand won't get people queuing up. Nor will signing a couple of free agents from League One and other players who clearly aren't going to improve the team.

  43. After the first game of the relegation from the PL season I called 606 and told Jason Roberts and Darren Fletcher that we would be relegated and cited several reasons why. They were both so condescending and said I was talking rubbish, too early etc. Like you I wanted to shove it up them both when the inevitable happened.

Given Johnson, Hunter, Moran, Kenna Brotherston, Rogers, McGrath, Duff McEvoy, Dougan. Subs- A Kelly, Lenihan, Carsley, Gillespie, McAteer, Stapelton, Reid.

  47. He is one of the best centre halves in the league this year. Starting for the team who I reckon will get automatic promotion. He is definitely worth at least 4 million. How do you work out that Bauer would be a star in this division, is he even a star in league 1? Horgan hasn't really gotten going, but Alan Brown is flying it and regularly gets man of the match.

  48. Surprised by how people have voted on this so far... I think people have lost sight on how difficult a job managing Blackburn Rovers is and what mess we were. No manager is perfect and everyone has their failings.
    1 point
  49. I wouldn't say he doesn't deserve his job....yet. On the other hand I highly doubt he has what it takes to make us challengers - based on the style of football I have seen throughout his reign. He has a relatively pressure free (or should) end to the season now to prove he can change his ways. So I'm somewhere between just about deserves his job and reassess in summer. Had the question been is he the man to turn us into challengers next season, then I'd have been a no.
