  1. Id go the null and void route - purely for selfish reasons. Just imagine those scousers and leeds fans - bliss. Wont and probably shouldnt happen though.

  2. Oh dear I was hoping nobody would ask me that. The last time I had to deal with these was in 1970 for three months. Most of my time then was spent removing and replacing broken loom crank shafts and not actually working on running machines. Here I go making a fool of myself. The diagrams you are looking at are an actual cross section of the weaving process. As I remember it the " Sley ", carrying the " Reed ", rocks back and forth off a lower pivot tightening up the cloth as it goes. The Reed itself is a frame carrying lots of vertical wires, the threads ( warp ? ) goes between the wires. The " Healds" shoot up and down in conjunction with the sley allowing the shuttle carrying the weft to weave the cloth. I'll ask my mum next time we speak for the real info. She ran a dozen " Northrop " Automatic Battery looms which were actually made in Blackburn, I believe the late Fred Pickering started out as an apprentice at " Northrop's ". I can't be the only one on here who's seen a loom working surely. Blackburn was a textile town with lots of weaving sheds back in the day.

  3. Just a bit of 80s nostalgia. The yellow ICI’s with blue trim were a thing of beauty

  4. You might enjoy this, which I saw on Facebook.. I know it's poor taste, but it made me laugh out loud -especially the last line of 1st verse! The scousers thought they'd won it. The title looked a cert. W***ing themselves silly Ending 30 years of hurt. By far they were the best team. It was proven by the stats. Then China fucked their season By eating fucking bats..... 2nd verse All the way from China To end the league in March No back to back in Europe No sight of Wembley Arch They thought they'd go unbeaten They must have been insane Because thanks to Covid 19 They've won fuck all again

  5. The worst was undoubtedly that Uhlsport number worn with absolutely no distinction by Ashley 'bloody' Ward. Best is a toss up between Asics title shirt and Kappa Worthy Cup shirt.

  6. Someone posted this on a non-football Fb group. I won’t name them for their privacy but this isn’t my photo. “Going down the Bolton Road...” Wondered if anyone else can add any detail or has similar photos?

  7. Very impressed Tyrone- I'll need to read my book more closely - remember Dad talking a lot about warps and wefts - sad fact of how little of this knowledge remains in what was once a textile town, still have a few of his designs though There are some videos on British Pathe too including Dad in the design studio - albeit in Burnley........

  12. Hard lines. They’ll have to suck it up and motivate themselves. There is no alternative. Someone has to get relegated or there can be no promotions and no champions.

  13. Healds and Reeds are items used in the textile weaving industry.

  14. I've ALWAYS thought that our away kit should be halved too. No better branding than turning on the tv (when we're on....), seeing a team in halves and thinking "oh, that's probably Blackburn Rovers". Just alternate the colours every year.

  15. With no football on Sky and BT I've had to start talking with my wife. I've just found out that she no longer works at Woolworths.

  16. I’d be giving Bell a new contract but I’m one of the few that thinks he’s decent. Probably wouldn’t be my first choice but think he’s better than we would likely get as a back up option

  17. We don't know what the doctor said to Dack. All I know is he is working hard in gym and with Rovers staff. I would take up the Bell option for 12 months. He has improved since Christmas.

  19. As mentioned it was indeed taken on Bolton Rd just outside of were the old Infirmary used to be,all heading towards Ewood. These old photos always get me thinking what did these people do in their lives?,sadly most now no longer with us.The middle aged fellas would have been glad to see a game at Ewood again having just fought a World War,the older gents would have witnessed the greatest Rover of them all Bob Crompton and the glory of two top title wins. A day at the Rovers would have been a big event for these good people and thousands alike across the country come Saturday. Love it.

  20. I used to go to Rovers in a collar tie and a suit. What else would you wear ? Casual clothing was for working in then. I got my first pair of training shoes in 1966. We'd been playing one night and I kept them on to go to the pub for an after match drink. When I walked into the pub it was like I was Spencer Tracy in " Bad Day At Black Rock ". A stranger in town ! It was like I had two heads ! Everybody stared at the trainers. The past was a different place. I've walked up that bit of road with a spring in my step on many, many occasions,.

  21. It looked familiar but couldn't see it until you pointed it out. The banking behind the stone wall on the right is clearly the old Infirmary site and the pub looks as I remember it. Must have walked that route many times, always with great anticipation of seeing a fantastic win. The smiles and grins on faces in the photo suggest that's always been the case "going down the Bolton Road".

  22. I think the fans are on Bolton Rd with the old Infirmary frontage on the right and the wall on the left bordering the LeedsLiverppol canal. The Infirmary pub in the background on the right

  23. Isn't it by the canal across from the infirmary just before the railway bridge?
