News From Other Leagues

This is an interesting one at FGR following Ferguson's sacking: https://www.skysports.com/football/news/35511/12915076/hannah-dingley-forest-green-rovers-caretaker-boss-becomes-first-woman-to-take-charge-of-senior-professional-mens-team-in-england I'm beginning to wonder if FGR are just on a massive publicity stunt at the moment and this is just one of them, however I hope she does well. If she does, it'll be interesting to see if any other clubs take the plunge. -

I remember having that pinned on my bedroom wall! It was always a big deal when there was something to do with Rovers in either Shoot or Match. First Rovers shirt I ever owned as well that one. -

Thought this was interesting: https://www.bookiesignupoffers.com/2022/08/30/championship-shirt-sponsors-for-2022-23/ Whilst we're all banging on about who we can & can't get as a shirt sponsor, the above link shows a pretty uninspiring list from last season. Once you take out the obvious ones due to owner connections (Malaysia Tourism, Bet 365 etc), Lotus as an obvious choice for Norwich, Select Car Leasing being Reading based & also sponsor the stadium, and the fact Utilita sponsored 3 clubs there's not much left, particularly if we don't want a betting company. Do I think we can do better than a vape company? Yes. Do I think Swag's being lazy? Yes, of course I do, but it might not be quite as easy as we all might think. Euro Garages is the obvious one, but that's been discussed to death and looks like it's a cultural thing. The other thing to take into consideration is that a lot of companies (particularly of the size we're probably looking at) are currently working on tighter profit margins & so won't have the same amount of spare cash lying around for sponsorship deals as they probably once did. I don't have any background in this type of thing, but I'm just thinking about possibly companies like Toolstation (Screwfix currently invest heavily in the EFL), big DIY chains like B&Q, Wickes etc who did quite nicely over the pandemic. Do we even try picking up the phone to these types of businesses? -
Just seen that Man City's 1894 club (or something like that) are urging City fans to boycott the Charity Shield game due to the stupid 5:30pm KO, saying that it's about time fans were taken into consideration. I hope they're successful as it'd be great to see a half empty Wembley for that game & would send out a clear message. Unfortunately, I can see it being a couple of hundred that don't bother & it won't even register.

Hanson Cup - Can you help?

BT - British Transport? Just thinking along the railways line. -
Who was it we played away over lockdown & Tom Trybull walked round the ground after being substituted booting all the balls off the cones into the empty stands to slow the game down as we were winning at the time? I thought it was hilarious! I seem to recall that there was almost a bust up between the benches because of it.

Bloody hell, I thought the Kappa shirts were a snug fit! Definitely not one for the dad bod that one! 😅 -
Yeah, I needed my 4:30 on a Sunday footy fix so watched most of it. As you say it was absolutely mental! Great watch for a neutral though, the game had a bit of everything.

Not sure where you've heard that, but on one episode of Would I Lie To You he stated that he was. The question at the time was about why he once made a Liverpool keyring at school. He was then asked who he supported & said he made the LFC keyring because they didn't have any blue plastic - the story turned out to be true. Edit: found the clip

Actually yes. Utd gave everyone who attended a free hat.

Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach
windymiller7 replied to Tom's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Now there's another debate - for me, a chip butty would be on normal white sliced bread. Barm all day long though, teacake has currants! Dying to try a John Bull though, sounds superb! I'd always called them potato scallops until I went to school in Blackburn & have called them dabs ever since. Chippy I used to go in also did chip 'barms' with either peas, curry or gravy on them. Just the right amount so they weren't soggy. Absolutely loved ones with curry on, so much so, to this day I always order a small tub of curry & add my own. -

Too obvious, it's Daley Blind! It's an open & shut case. But I'm not one to be drawn on speculation. What's Mark Draper up to these days? 🤭 -
Bradley Dack - Twist or Stick?
windymiller7 replied to bigbrandjohn's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Sad to see Dacky go, but probably best for all parties at this point. As others have said, I wish him nothing but the best for the future & hope that he gets to come back to Ewood for the send off he deserves. Whether or not you agree with the term Legend, one thing is for sure, he's the closest thing to one anyone has been over the last 12 years. Legends don't have to be the best players or win the most trophies. but what they need to have done is give everything for the shirt, have a rapport the fans, shine through the bad times, revel in the good times, and more importantly care. Dacky ticks all these boxes so for me, yeah, you can have that title mate. My all time legend is Garner as that's who I was brought up with, then on to the 'Class of 95', but players like Speedie, Jansen and others of similar standing can all be considered legends in my lifetime. I don't see why Dack can't be as he certainly will be to the younger generation. Thanks for the memories Brad. All the best. -
I see from Rovers socials that work has started on the Ewood pitch ready for next season. I'm assuming that Maggot is still looking into funding for a Desso pitch and it's just getting its usual re-seed? Anyone heard anything to the contrary?

v Millwall (a) - Monday 8th May
windymiller7 replied to arbitro's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Part of my job. Easily sorted. Might cost few quid but hey! Original sound system. Was designed & installed by Romers. I knew the MD. When Jack was still with us it was maintained regularly. Nothing's been done in years. It"s f**kd -

I'll be honest mate, you are normally so very eloquent it's untrue so don't worry about it! This is very much spoken from the heart where everything goes out of the window. I'm with u mate ,type first & ask questions later. Never met u, but I reckon me & u could have a good beer together Anyway, we'll win & lose out on goal difference. I'll collect my annual 2 pints bet from my nobend supporting mate, & we'll go again next year. -

Just looking at that, you don't realise just how much football has changed in such a short space of time. £25k for winning the 2nd Div title! The same promotion now is worth 100s of millions! Millwall with Sheringham & Cascarino up front - they'd be loan players now from a Prem academy, certainly Sheringham anyway. -
v Luton Town (h) - 1/5/23

After the Rotherham-Boro result, Luton are guaranteed 3rd spot. Let's hope they ease up a little & we can capitalise. COYB -

Sky don't want pundits like Souness. Too controversial! Toe the line or you're out. Roy Keane will be the next one out don't know if anyone saw it but, Rio & can't remember who the other guy was, tore jernaine jenas a new one the other night. Great tv, but not the sky way! I know it was BT before anyone corrects me. -
Excellent result! I must admit I was crapping it that Leonard would get injured today leaving the 1st team with literally no striker for the last 2 games. Now let's give him more than a 10 min cameo & see if he can carry on his excellent form for the U21s.
