The Worst Match You’ve Ever Seen…
arbitro replied to Herbie6590's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
The word he used was 'forfeited'. I wrote to the FA and Football League and was told the words were taken out of context. I wrote back and simply asked how. No reply to that. -

Our Jekyll and Hyde season carried on today as we put the last three games to bed with a good performance in which the collective excelled rather than individuals. The marked difference today for me was the speed in which we passed the ball, the movement and intensity. I was surprised actually that Rotherham allowed us to play rather than smothering us in midfield and we took advantage of this and played forward more today than we have in the last three games combined. I thought the score reflected the game as we were better all over the pitch. The real challenge is stringing together similar performances and results over the next month. Sat in front of us today were several Rovers supporting Dubliners who really enjoyed the game and the result after flying in today. If any of you post on here and read this I hope you enjoyed Blackburn and it's nightlife. I know you certainty enjoyed the game 😁😁. -

But the fans see the end product on match days and can make a reasoned judgement on that and he deserves to be in ahead of the players who haven't performed in the last few games. -

He isn't. As of 10.30 am Rotherham had sold 767 tickets with sales at Ewood up until kick off. -

I think that would be the consensus of fans saying the same. Sadly the man who counts doesn't see it that way. -

I've been told that Dack isn't with the under 21's but Buckley is. Carter, Edun and Leonard are too. -
The Worst Match You’ve Ever Seen…

The World Cup group qualifying match between Austria and West Germany was embarrassing. At that time final group games were staggered and they both went into the match knowing that a low scoring win for the Germans would see both go through. They manufactured and connived a 1-0 German win by just passing the ball around in their own half with absolutely no pressure on them. It caused quite a stir and caused FIFA to change the rules so final group games kicked off simultaneously. -

Criticism goes with the territory as do the plaudits he got earlier on in the season. If fans can see something they clearly believe to be wrong and it keeps reoccurring then should we sit back and say nothing? It's a message board where opinions are given both for and against and I haven't read one post where anybody has said he shouldn't be given time but in the here and now the football and the way we are playing is tedious and repetitive. What's wrong with saying that?- 9617 replies

Sorry I was aware it was engineering works rather than a strike but my point still stands about the police wanting as few as possible Rovers fans outside the Turf Moor vicinity.
-
In a way the train strike has helped the police who were undoubtedly worried about the prospect of Rovers fans arriving in Burnley and walking through swathes of Dingles. As it is I think that the vast majority of Rovers fans will be taking up the club travel option simply because it offers the safest passage in and out. The game at Ewood in March will be far riskier if we give them the full allocation for the Darwen End and they travel independently. Waggott really has to consider this carefully and put the well being of the club and supporters first. In truth I'll be amazed if he cuts their allocation on the grounds of safety rather than that seeing the Dingles as a cash cow.

Tomassons quote from August 12th. He wants Rovers performing on the front foot, attacking and pressing. “We need to play a game that people enjoy,” Tomasson says. “We should never play ‘the Dutch disease’, which I call it, where they just play it around, around, around. We want to play a possession game which is speedy towards goal, an intense game with and without the ball.” Hopefully he remembers this on Saturday and we stop taking the unnecessary risks and play the ball quicker rather than the walking football pace we have seen recently. -
Jon Dahl Tomasson - no longer Sweden coach

Our lack of a decent press allowed Cardiff time on the ball to pick a pass and play through the lines. I lost count of the times they did it last night and got themselves on the front foot. -

Saturday's starting team only had two Tomassons signings in it and one of them is on loan. Last night only three of the starters were his signings. -

It's almost like Tomasson hasn't to be criticised because he needs time in the view of some. In all honesty I don't really care for the journey he speaks whether it be three months or three years. I, along with many judge him on what I see every game good, bad or indifferent. The next game is always the most important and by trying to absolve him of blame by using excuses like he needs time, another two windows etc is papering over the clear cracks. I am bothered about the here and now and we, with one exception have been poor recently. And if supporters feel Tomasson is culpable then he should be called out. If he can't see the problem from last night he is a part of the problem. -

He is so lethargic in possession which I find infuriating. Your description of lackadaisical is also apt too. It's so frustrating because I think he can play but he will soon be at the crossroads and certainly needs to improve a great deal. -

On current form Travis should be left out. One of our best performances was with Adam Wharton and Tyler Morton in midfield. They got on the ball, played on the half turn and passed through the lines. Travis slows us down, takes too many touches, is ponderous in possession and concedes far to many silly free kicks. -

The new Rotherham manager will have watched the game last night and will immediately know how to set up against us. Tomasson simply has to come up with an alternative way to play against this type of team. The question is can he. -

Twelve games in an it appears Tomasson doesn't get know our best formation or tactics to get the best out of this group of players. I think most people know the definition of lunacy - well we saw it time and time again last night as our players clearly aren't good enough to play out from the back. Too slow, too many touches and poor control of the ball are the main reasons. We struggled to get over the half way line playing this way So why, why, why keep trying it? The jury is still out for me after the good start we made, by the way playing a different style than we are seeing now. -
To counter that Edwards at Watford, Schofield and Huddersfield and Rosenoir at Derby have all lost their jobs. Every manager knows the risks and failure is generally a lucrative thing. I read Mourinho has earned over £80m from his sackings over the years.

For me it's risk versus reward and I can't remember under any recent manager where we have scored or even created a chance by trying to play out from deep. It would be far more palatable if when we did it the ball was thrown into wider players. Quite a few times Kaminski has played it to a centrally positioned player who can't turn due to the proximity of a pressing opponent. Yesterday was a prime example and I'm convinced had we conceded first we would have lost. As I say it's risk versus reward. -

Great shout. It was Nightingales and I was beating myself up trying to think of that. Tony Charles bought it from them. -
This made me laugh.

You are right about John Harrison Sports Andy and his sleeping partner was indeed Mick Heaton. I believe that John Harrison Sports is still in business, perhaps in Leyland. I'm pretty sure that the couple who ran County Sports resided in the Sunnyhurst area. Maybe claytonsleftboot might remember them. Airfix was the name of the model planes and cars etc. Half an hour with the glue that came with the kits and you were as high as a kite. 😂😂 -

I don't remember records being sold there. It was a really well stocked shop - they seemed to have equipment for every sport and hobby. The couple who owned it were there when I was a kid and I think they saw it through to their own retirement. -

It was called Tony Charles records Andy. He started a football team which I played for called Charles Athletic and bought us expensive kits and tracksuits. He did live on St. Cuthberts Close and we had meetings in his house. It always reminded me of the house in A Clockwork Orange 😁😁. His real name was Brown and I think his Christian name was David. He also played cricket for one of the Darwen teams, perhaps thirds.
